  1. That's because you don't like the trade and you always just spin thinks to make your point of view appear better. They are pissed off not because they got along with him, but because they see him pitch every day and know how good he is instead of looking at some ERA and K stats for the season and assuming he's "lost it" without actually looking and seeing that 7 out of his 19 runs given up this season were on 2 pitches. And failing to realize that in April and May he wasn't scored on in 28 out of 30 appearances. That's why they are upset to see him go. Spin it however you feel better spinning it though.
  2. They are only worse because of his 3-run homers to David Wright and Matt Holiday last week. Take out those 2 home runs (6 ER's) and his ERA is right about where it always is. In those 2 outings where he gave up the HR's, his ERA is 37.40. (both in July) The rest of the season (43 1/3 innings), his ERA is 2.45.
  3. Can't say I even remotely agree. I see Linebrink as our 7th or 8th inning guy every single night we have a lead. He is the premier set-up man in the league. Why would you compare him to Chris Spurling?
  4. Who's in for the "Double Sweep??" Brewers sweep the Cards. Reds stay hot and sweep the sCrUBS. Head home 14 games over .500 with a 5.5 game lead on the division. God I love what fuchsia does for the soul. I echo the previous sediments to Vargas. PoUnD tHaT mEaT!!
  5. Excellent post. Tomorrow night can't come soon enough. Winning this series 3-1 would give me what I wanted on the roadtrip...a 4-4 split. I expected 3-5, but really wanted to go .500. I think the team will show some resolve this weekend and gut out a couple tough wins and maybe win a laugher mixed in with a tough loss. Getting to 59-47 heading into the last day of July would make this Brewers fan very very happy.
  6. It was Jim Powell, but point well taken.
  7. Well he is. But yet Yost was the idiot for resting "all his regulars" yesterday even though Hart is hitting .195 in July and Hardy .176ish.
  8. Who's going to pitch?? Spurling threw 2 innings yesterday. Wise pitched yesterday. Shouse, Villy, T-bow, CoCo already pitched. We can't use Vargas, Parra, Cappy or Suppan as they pitched yesterday or this weekend. Obviously you don't want to use Yo due to his innings even though he's probably due to throw today on the side. That leaves Balfour. And that's it? Right?
  9. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/pl...yerId=3853 You already mentioned the June 27th game where he didn't start. So on July 3rd did he have 4 Sac Bunts? The Cubs lost 3-1 and he had 0 AB's. So on June 30th against the Brewers he was 1-for-1 against the Brewers with zero walks. Again, 3 Sac bunts? So on July 18th against SF he was 0-0 with 0 walks, again, did he have 4 Sac bunts? I didn't realize Ramirez was such a bunting machine.
  10. In 43 appearances, he has been perfect in 33 of them.Of those 10 times he gave up a run, 7 of them were just a single run. I think Padres made a mistake by putting too much stock in his last couple outings when he gave up a 3-run homer to David Wright (who hasnt?) and a 3-run homer to Matt Holiday (who hasn't?). Sandwhiched between those 2 outings was a scoreless outing against Phily. In May and June he pitched scoreless outings in 18 out of 19 appearances and in April and May he went 16 out of 17 scoreless outings. The guy hasn't lost it since April and May, he just made 2 mistakes to Wright and Holliday and the Padres thought they'd get some prospects for him.
  11. How can they not be? You are in a pennant race and you trade a guy that has been the premiere set up man in major league baseball for about 4 years. They should be pissed. The Brewers should be excited. They gave up three prospects, which are just that, prospects. By doing so they have solidified the 7th inning of their bullpen, which is huge. The guy has great stuff and is a very dependable middle reliever. If you've ever had him on your fantasy team, you'll know what I'm talking about. The guy is as automatic as they come.
  12. So when Ryan Howard started 157 games last year (with about 1 day off a month) he shouldn't have won the MVP award? So Albert Pujols shouldn't have won the MVP in 2005 when he only started 154 games? So Barry Bonds shouldn't have won the MVP in 2004 when he made 140 starts? I could keep going as Bonds won 3 in a row and rarely played more than 140 games.... Maybe the argument could be mad that these guys won the MVP award because they were FRESH ENOUGH to put up big numbers.
  13. Prince might not need TODAY off, but without today off he will need a day off soon. He's young and has not had very many off days. This is the smart thing to do giving him a day off against a lefty before 5 games in 4 days against the Cards. As for the Cubs, we aren't the cubs. Nor should we strive to be. They are hardly the model for success as to how to make the post season and win world series. For what it's worth, Lee just had 5 days off (although they weren't Pinella's choice.). Ramirez had July 21st, July 27th, July 3rd, and July 18th off. As for Soriano. He hasn't had any days off since he came back from injury, but he did miss 8 games in April with the injury so he still hasn't played as many games as Prince. Just don't spout out general statements (Pinella never gives days off) without at least having a clue if you are right or not. Ramirez has had days off, but you just don't notice them because you don't psychoanalyze Pinella like you do Yost because they aren't your team of choice.
  14. Rave reviews on the Linebrink trade on ESPN2 right now. Someone from the New York Post talking about how Linebrink is bar-none the best setup man in the game. It's a commitment to winning now. Said they gave up some decent arms to get him, but was a move they had to make. Said that Padres players were stunned and confused as to why management would trade away their setup man in the middle of a pennant race.
  15. Glad you did the work because I was just about to look up those numbers. I'm fine with Weeks leading off today as well.
  16. That's an excellent point. As fans we want the top lineup out there for 162 games. Even though this is only the 3rd game all year that Prince hasn't been in the lineup, each time it happens it seems tough. Ned has the long-term interest of this young team in mind. Luckily, he's able to be firm in his beliefs about resting those guys occasionally, because for me, it would have been real hard to not put Prince in the lineup today regardless.
  17. Like the lineup if Prince was playing instead of Graffy. It's pretty evident that Ned is worried about the kids wearing out during this 18 games in 17 days streatch (and specifically wants everyone fresh heading into St. Louis for 5 games in 4 days). Hopefully that lineup with all the regulars, minus prince, can score enough runs to get out of Cincy with a split.
  18. I'm not really sure there's been a bad Dave Bush since May. His last 10 starts: 7 innings, 1 Run 6 innings, 4 runs 5 innings, 3 runs 6.1 innings, 2 runs 7 innings, 1 run 6 innings, 4 runs 7 innings, 1 run 6 innings, 3 runs 6 innings, 3 runs Good for a 5-3 record. As for the lineup. Counsell/Graffanino for Hardy and Jenkins/Mench for Hart really isn't a "downgrade" with the way Hardy and Hart have played lately (like the last 6 weeks--both have batting avg's below .200), but that being said I'd like to see the them both in the lineup today with Braun, Prince, Hall, Estrada, etc and get back on track heading into St. Louis.
  19. I'm not going to post a picture to continue the trend. Sorry. But I just wanted to say that I'm excited for the game today. It's a big game to get out of Cincy with a split. Then have Yo, Parra, Cappy, and Vargas against the Cards this weekend. So...according to people around here..this is the..um 6th week in a row? that that Cubs will be in first "by the end of the week." It hasn't happened yet and won't happen this week. I'm so glad that nobody around here is in the coaching/managing profession because they would never survive getting so worked up over bad stretches. It's a long season. Just like we knew they wouldn't play at a 24-10 pace all year. I'm convinced they won't play at the 13-14 clip they've played since June 23rd all year either. Probably somewhere in the middle. They've been playing without Bill Hall, which is forching Menchkins to be Jenkins (against Lefties) and Mench (against Righties). Hardy and Hart (both playing their first full season) have hit a little bit of a lull. Weeks is just now getting back healthy from his wrist injury. Suppan has pitched as bad as he can possibly pitch. All these things said, the Brewers are 11 games over .500 and in 1st place on July 26th. Enjoy the young (albeit inconsistent) and exciting (albeit frustrating at times) team. Remember, if the Cubs do happen to catch the Brewers at some point..... They'll have to hold them off until the bitter end because this Brewers team will not go away. C'Mon Dave Bush. Get a much needed win.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. I think Ned Yost is sending a message that you play hard or you don't play. No matter who you are. Hardy and Estrada are out again for their antics in extra innings Monday night. And I didn't think of it until just now with Hart out again, but on one of his 3 strikeouts Monday night, he swung at a ball in the dirt and failed to run it out. That would explain those 3. As for Braun, maybe he did something as well. If he didn't, it's a dumb night to give him off when you are already punishing 3 other starters. If he did do something punishable, then by all means, make your point now so in September they are playing the game the right way.
  21. What a great great move! I am so excited. This move solidifies a already strong bullpen. I couldn't be happier. Prospects are just that. Prospects. Scott Linebrink is one of the best relief pitchers in baseball (leads the league in holds the last 3 years) and has playoff experience. I think it was a no-brainer of a trade. Hmmmm sounds like Francisco Cordero before we got him from Texas.
  22. Really I don't want to engage in a Yost is good/bad debate here--either, just want to point out with regards to Estrada, Yost handled this very well. I think there's more to it as well with Hardy and Estrada out of the lineup again. In addition to Braun who has a tendancy to stare at a ball before he runs, and Hart who has looked very lackidasical (spelling) of late. I think Yost is making a point right now that you play hard all the time or he'll play people that will.
  23. I think this is a good point. He could have just said he was getting the day off, but by benching Hardy too, it was pretty obvious what was going on. I also think Ned predicted that question was going to come about Estrada not running hard so he got to it before anyone could ask it by saying he's been hurt. One thing Ned doesn't care about is what people think of him. He doesn't care if by him saying he's hurt, Fatter than Joey on a message board is going to criticize him for letting him play hurt. He doesn't care what people think of him. That's part of what makes him such a darn good manager. He's willing to go against popular decision without worrying about what people will think of say.
