  1. I believe LaRoche was nicked up in spring training, and that's why he didn't make the team. DeWit might be the more available guy.
  2. Actually, after 10 errorless games in a row he's on a pace for 10 errors this season--he just needs to keep his pace of errorless games going until the end of the season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. That is untrue. Weeks clearly is trying to see more pitches to help the other batters, and he has said this. I suspect he will perform better if he can be more aggressive. What matters little regarding batting order is the number of runs produced by the team if you shuffle up the lineup AND the players perform exactly as they had in another slot. But even that makes some difference--that's why Kendall is batting 9th, for example.
  4. I'm not trying to make any definitive statement about his skill. I'm suggesting that Weeks might do better batting somewhere other than the top of the order. If he doesn't hit there, either, THAT will say something about his ability. barring an unrevealed physical or mental problem. it will say that he just isn't that good, and we were wrong to expect him to habitually sport an OPS north of .800, with a career peak north of 1.000 (which had been my expectation for him).
  5. I wasn't using only this year's performance, but indicating his BA is going the wrong direction. Players of his age should be improving, but he's not improving offensively. Something is wrong. Either Rickie really isn't very good, or he has some physical problem, or he has some mental problem, or batting leadoff is a problem for him. So, let's find out if that's the problem by moving him down in the order. I'm not suggesting we waive him, just suggesting the brewers do something to see if he really does have the ability to contribute, long-term, to the team. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  6. good managers of people visit with the folks they are managing even when they have no fixed purpose.
  7. I stayed awake in bed last night until I calculated it out in my head, rounded to the nearest whole percent. The way I'd calculate it would be to add up all the permutations of 12, 11, 10, 9, and 8 wins, and divide the sum by the number of all possible permutations. Thus=(1+12+66+220+495)/4096=19.385. To calculate the number of permutations, for example 12 wins and 4 losses, = 12*11*10*9/(4*3*2*1)=495
  8. His average dropped .040 points from 2006 to 2007, and another .040 points from 2007 to 2008. The time has come for something to change in the positive direction.
  9. After the boston trip, 9th in RPI and still first in SOS by a fair bit over second place Cincinnati.
  10. plenty of guys have done well for a couple of months.
  11. When I watched him, I was annoyed by something he was doing, but I can't recall if he was doing it last year. He raises his left leg, then brings it straight down, THEN (rather than simultaneously) brings it forward. On some pitches it looks like the taps his left foot on the mound before moving it forward. I didn't see enough to know whether the tap was real and whether it was signalling a certain type of pitch. In any regard, it doesn't make for a very effortless appearance when he throws.
  12. trading weeks to cleveland would be like cleveland trading brandon phillips to the reds. With the lack of anything other than a stopgap at 2b, I'd prefer weeks stays in MKE. Also trading when a guy's value has plummeted is not a great idea.
  13. be careful what you wish for. While Brantley really only cuts it as a starting CF or a bench player, it's not like he's regarded as a defensive whiz in center; he's mostly played LF and 1b up to this season. I don't think it would be an upgrade defensively over Hart.
  14. I'd guess simmons knows baseball and all, but isn't this the first coaching stint he's had ever, or at least in a long while? I thought he was a front office guy before this. I'd prefer an experienced guy, and one who is more hard-nosed.
  15. it's late. I'm sleepy. or stupid. take your pick.
  16. That's better than 1 in 70! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif hmm, maybe I was calculating it where order mattered. 8*7*6*5/(4*3*2*1)
  17. 1 in 70 chance, if they are a .500 team.
  18. If he has potential, you have to try to change something so that the potential is revealed. This is my best idea to reveal that potential. If his BA drops .040 every year, he'll be batting .150 next year.
  19. iirc, the brewers 3b put up the third best OPS in the majors at 3b, when hall, branyan, and helms were sharing time.
  20. Ian Kinsler? I'm thinking Brandon Phillips, with more walks.
  21. I believe batting leadoff has totally messed up Weeks. The only way I see him recovering is if he gets moved down to 5th through 7th in the order. He was drafted to be a run-producer, not a table-setter. If he walks about as much as Braun, but starts to rake, I'll take it. You can argue who should bat leadoff, and I think there are a couple of alternatives, but let's not argue that. Also, let's not make this about the batting order, more generally. Let's just discuss the possibility that moving Weeks down might make a more productive hitter.
  22. They face 4 LH starters in the next 7 games. That should help.
  23. When is that going to happen? Looks like next season if Gamel and LaPorta are up. :-(
  24. I'd hate to be called the "team leader" of a team that is uniformly underperforming.
  25. does that suggest they are making a lot of great decisions either?
