Ned: My guys are really battling. The hitters are getting good AB's, and the pitchers are pitching good, except for a mistake or two. Doug: all righty then, nothing to worry about. good meeting. see you guys later.
perhaps you are a better mind reader than I am. Salome has played a good bit of DH in the past, so I think he did believe he was still doing so. I had thought his main problem defensively was air-mailing throws past 2nd base; since he has no errors this season, seems like he has that fixed.
Negatory, unless you know something baseball.reference doesn't know. They have him at catcher in 21 games, and the other two catchers that have played at huntsville show 15 and 1 games played at catcher, and stars have only played 37 games. And last time I looked, he hadn't made an error.
actually, I think this is a great chance to forego the entire "closer" issue, and pitch whoever is rested and appropriate for the batters he'll face. and lets go get branyan, too.
If the brewers bring up a starting pitcher, who do you want it to be, Weaver, DiFelice or Hammond? I'm partial to Hammond; he's really gotten his strikeout rate up this season. If Weaver pitches well in Nashville, I'd guess it will be him, though.
melky is a good player, and quite young. He plays a great OF, and could well develop significant power. He'd allow them to let Cameron walk next season.
SF could challenge sooner rather than later. They spend money. They seemingly made a good sign with Rowand, and they can go out and do it again next offseason.
the point is not whether making the playoffs would be a good thing or not, but whether it would be a good thing if your team did that, then dismantled the team the next year.
