  1. I can better that. I kept thinking that the brewers should trade Fielder for Marte, since they hit about the same in the same league at (I believe) the same age and the brewers needed a 3b while the braves didn't.
  2. Capuano is 28, and the ironic thing is that he grew up in Massachusetts. That's why it's odd a Boston paper ignored him.
  3. if you can get him cheap (one of the extra SP), sure. I doubt he'll be cheap, though. And the team has committed to Hall at 3b.
  4. well, lets go acquire a dozen Mark Rogers comparables from other team's organizations if they have so little trade value. One of them will turn out to be an Ace. Oh, my mistake...there might only be one or two guys on other teams organizations that are comparable. The mistake some of you are making is to assume he had major surgery because he was held out last season. It was relatively minor surgery, but they were being conservative--as you should be with a VALUABLE FORMER 1ST ROUND PICK! At this moment, Rogers should be considered to be somewhere in the teens among brewers prospects. He could deserve being in the top 3 before the season is over.
  5. one of the posters responding to that article said that gamel would be playing more CF than 3b this year. Hadn't heard anything like that before.
  6. the statement was about PH, not bench. Ward has been an excellent PH in heavy use over the last few years. Gross and Murton have been poor PH in moderate use. dillon has been an excellent PH with few AB. While I think dillon will do well, he still has a limited MLB tenure. There are plenty of AAA stars that never make it. Philly probably is clearly better at LH-RH PH with Dobbs and Taguchi, and a few other options, depending how they sort out that roster. Really, my post was just a reaction to a statement that the brewers would be THE best without really exploring what other teams have.
  7. Stuff trumps production for low-minor pitchers, and several folks seem to be forgetting that Rogers had as good stuff as anyone in the minors in 2006. gees, you guys would have thrown out Nolan Ryan with the bathwater. I've never been that high on Rogers, but his high ceiling makes him very valuable.
  8. Don't ever overlook how good our bench is. It's one reason why bringing in Cameron or someone comparable was so important this offseason. Between Gross & Dillon, I don't think any team can claim to have a better duo of LH & RH pinch-hitters in MLB. well, off the top of my head, the Cubs could.
  9. yankees have been building a solid system for a few years now.
  10. considering those projections decrease OBP of weeks, braun and fielder, and the only big increases are cameron, hall and kendall, I don't see any reason to be "happy" if the team fulfilled the projections.

  14. considering the projections either represent a drop-off from last season, or a minor improvement, even for very young players, it is pretty pessimistic except for Cameron (which must be due to change in ballparks) and Hall (they are expecting a fair bounce-back). Last year: Weeks, .807; Cameron, .759, Braun, 1.004; Fielder 1.013; Hart, .892; Hall, .740; Hardy .786; Kendall .610. Those 2008 projections DO NOT represent a division-winner in my opinion.

  18. actually, I thought the hitting numbers were a little low for most players, and the pitching more on target, with a few exceptions. I'll take those numbers for Cameron, though.

  22. wow, you don't value our guys much. Jeffress and Rogers have much higher ceiling than the pitchers the twins are getting. While Gamel might not have a position, Gomez doesn't have a bat yet and doesn't project to ever hit for much power.
  23. willie randolph might be a ned yost clone if you gave yost a brain...and more melanin...and whatever other accoutrements go with being a black guy.
  24. is shea hillebrand still out there?
  25. Cardinals have Rasmus. Top 5-level prospects help the overall rating. Brewers don't have anyone that falls into the top 20, maybe not even top 40, depending on the judge of prospects.
