  1. guys getting replaced all over the place on both teams.
  2. lefties are supposed to be weird. I think he had an injury as a 19 year old. he kept moving around from org to org, too.
  3. Oakland's lineup is pretty bad. Crosby batting cleanup?
  4. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/N/Chris-Narveson.shtml that shows his entire career.
  5. I had this happen to me. slammed my hand (holding a dumbell) against a metal rack. Blood everywhere. I did lose my fingernail and it did take quite awhile to be back to normal, but it wasn't too much of a problem, either.
  6. lets just go: Fielder, Braun, Hart, Weeks, Cameron, Hall, Hardy, Kendall.
  7. the story mentioned blood. sounds like the ball tore some skin off. a week to heal well enough, probably. Anyone know who's playing 3rd today? Hope it's Dillon.
  8. Celebrity Rehab Season 2? I hope he hasn't blown all his money.
  9. small ball should be the last thing in the offensive arsenal of this team. They are made to mash. If they hit 250 HR, it won't matter if they steal 70 or 150 bases, except they'll score FEWER runs by getting caught stealing.
  10. Hardy is kinda broken as a 2nd batter until he takes more walks (or gets his average over .300).
  11. Which #5 hitter? Hall or Hart (Bill swiped 18 in `05, and has a bit of speed himself)? Hall, Weeks, Braun, and Hart are all 30-30 threats, IMO. hall has successfully stolen 60% of the time, both in majors and minors. He shouldn't have more than 7, imo.Braun has been successful about 75% of the time. I hope he doesn't have more than 25 steals, imo. Weeks has been very efficient. He should steal as often as he can while keeping his rate above 85%. Hart was 76.7% successful last season. He might be able to improve that, but 30 steals should only happen if he's batting at the top of the order a fair bit. Pitching, Defense, and the 3-run HR win baseball games--Earl Weaver.
  12. Hart would be fine hitting 2nd. I think you underestimate the speed on other teams; the brewers were not exactly league leaders in SB. The reason why there aren't many SB outside of the first three guys in the order is that there aren't many opportunities for them. If you go out of your way to manufacture opportunities, it is probably at the cost of a few runs, rather than increasing them. I'd bet on 20 SB for Hart, not 30, unless he is batting a lot in the top 3 positions.
  13. I can't comprehend why anyone would want Ned to think, inside a box, outside a box, or in a padded room. A guy should go with his strengths whenever possible. Regarding the "stats" about batting order, Heisenberg principle is in play here, I think. A markov chain model isn't reality. A guy that has a .340 OBP batting 8th, will probably have a different OBP batting 7th, 2nd, etc. The idea you can put players in place for certain situations (which is where any benefit would acrue) ignores that the **presence** of the situation is dependent on which player is batting in the other positions. So, the only way to find out what works best is to try it out. I'd suggest that "trying it out" will sacrifice a win here and there, and thus experimenting during the regular season is only appropriate for psychological reasons ("shaking things up").
  14. I looked at splits for every team last year. No team got 30 SB out of ANY position in the order except for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Only 4 teams got 30 SB out of 2nd in order and 2 teams got 30 SB out of 3rd in the order. Unless Hart bats 2nd (or first), I'd say his chance at 30 steals is very low.
  15. If he leads off a fair bit, 30 SB is reasonable. Of course, no one wants him to lead off much, unless Weeks is on a 60 HR pace and is put behind Fielder in the order. Hart is not likely to exceed 30 HR or 30SB, but he could do both. Less than 25% to be a 30/30 guy.
  16. I don't see any reason to move sheets to get santana. I wouldn't mind having him, though.
  17. LaPorta is a RH hitter. I could see gross here for a few more years. or not.
  18. why didn't the brewers consider crabbe to be able to play 3b and ss?
  19. if there is truth to the rumor, it's kinda scary. It means the brewers have a lot of confidence in Kapler
  20. If sheets and suppan are both gone, they could afford a new pitcher, but the position players will start getting expensive, too.
  21. no, really, the walleye was that big! If I'm lying , I'm dieing... or talking to the media, snort, snort, chuckle.
  22. I've never even tinkered around as a pitcher, so I can never remember which is 2 and which is 4-seam. but one is faster, and one has more movement.
