  1. absolutely. the guy gets on base.
  2. you can't trade laporta yet. he has to be with the team for a year, first. why would cincy want Jenkins? He's more valuable to us than them. Send them gross, gwynn (to keep their contingent of HOF sons constant), and a pitcher who grades higher than Cody. Griffey has a big contract, and has at least one more year, so we'd be helping cincy out a lot by taking his contract.
  3. don't think he can start at 3b on some other team?
  4. well, lets get a replacement for Prince, and Hart, too. They might get hurt...
  5. Hammond has been bad almost all year. Hinton has given up 21 ER in his last 10 innings to blow his ERA over 7, Housmann's ERA is over 6. At one point or another in the past, I thought all of these guys had a decent chance to be a major leaguer, but Hammond is doing bad while repeating Huntsville (Last year, I thought he might follow Yo all the way to milwaukee), Housman is likewise repeating Huntsville after a (presumably injury) shortened 2006, and Hinton was quite promising until this recent blow up. I'd hate to give up on Hinton after this brief descent into crappiness, but are any of these guys still on the radar for the brewers development plan?
  6. When Braun was drafted, I thought Heether and he might get to AAA at the same time. Then, Braun cruised while Heether had an abyssmal year last year. I never thought of Heether as anything more than a mid-level prospect, but he is raking once again, after a truly horrible start to the season (I think he was batting .132 through the first month). He's obviously never going to sniff 3b in milwaukee, but could he make the bigs?
  7. lofton only makes sense if Hall gets injured.
  8. Since Millar hits lefties worse than righties, he certainly is no replacement for Mench in a platoon. I wouldn't mind Griffey at all, but what do you do with Jenkins?
  9. Mexican league is officially AAA. there is also a lesser league or two in mexico.
  10. I can't see giving any preference to home-state kids, except after round 25 or so. You may give them preference because you know them better, and thus feel better about them, but otherwise, take the best player.
  11. pretty sure quiz had a specialty pitch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I dunno, if I'm taking grounders off my face, and airmailing throws into the stands, at some point it is going to bother me.
  13. actually, If I had to specify a threshold, a "fireballer" could surpass 94, at least occasionally.
  14. capellan, prounounced cap-PAY-on, not caPELLin
  15. just list a few dominant closers that didn't qualify as either: 1) fireballers; 2) changeup or other "special" pitch specialist. can't think of anyone that can't crack 90, and doesn't have a "special" pitch either, that was a dominant closer in the last 20 years. Those guys are starters or middle relievers.
  16. keep parra. at least until you have another lefty that can hit 96 mph. keep him in AAA this season. move a starter in the offseason, and allow parra to compete for a long reliever role next season. Yo, Villanueva, and Parra to slug it out for a starter slot and 1-2 long reliever slots seems pretty wonderful to me.
  17. the admitted "soft-tossing lefty" we just picked up has a high strikeout/inning rate, but he's not going to get groomed to be a closer. You have to bring heat (almost all closers) or have a devastating changeup (hoffman) to close. Villanueva as a set-up guy, maybe. Not as a closer. BTW, when I went to this thread I thought it was about Villanueva getting used too much. I do have a concern, not about innings, but about frequency of use.
  18. I'd definitely put weeks 1st, hart 2nd on days when jj (or braun) has a day off, rather than have counsell bat 2nd. Hart should be a good 2nd batter, and with weeks 1st, that provides a lot of speed at the top.
  19. thread reads like he's an up and coming future AAAA pitcher.
  20. If he makes 80 errors this season (has there ever been a brewer prospect with that many?), he's certainly not going to be valued as a third base prospect.
  21. what really has irritated me was when they'd bring in shouse for a batter, and then follow up with Wise. Never makes sense to me.
  22. brevard is a hard place for power hitters, not necessarily singles hitters. Which makes Salome's production more impressive.
  23. More than an error every other game (39 in 72 games). I know the fields can be rough in the low minors, but this seems beyond any excuse. Are they just going to wait until next spring to move him to corner OF (not like that is a rare commodity in the organization).
  24. He's an older guy who has been raking. Seems like it would be in his interests to get promoted, or else he'll never make it to the bigs. There are several other guys in the low minors who are in similar positions.
  25. I think they will both be FA if they aren't on the 40 man roster at the end of the year. I think Nelson could still possibly have a ML career, and he was the top prospect in the organization a few years ago.
