Looks like some Cubs fans are so bent out of shape about this thread that they're signing up for BF.net and starting fake (and actually not that great) trade rumors about the Cubs! Thanks Peavey for locking that one - at least they could come up with some better players to start some rumors on here!!
  2. MoneyballMan
Even MLB Trade Rumors doesn't have anything and they're usually pretty good and pretty early.
  3. MoneyballMan
Yeah, I checked around quick as well and didn't see anything. Probably a Cubs fan thinking this will get us all nervous about the Cubs! Going to take a little more than that....
  4. MoneyballMan
Nothing on Rotoworld yet. I'll keep looking around as well.
  5. MoneyballMan
Hopefully they gave up three great prospects - just helps us out in future years and I agree that we're still ok. Nady and Marte aren't bad, but it's not close to a "wow" trade that should make us worry too much.
  6. MoneyballMan
Probably not, since pitching starved teams like Washington, KC, whomever should take a chance on him and just let him pitch for the next two months. That said, we're long beyond the point where it should matter to the Brewers. We can cover with depth. I agree. I said "yes" to clearing waivers out of emotion. You're spot on with "it shouldn't matter" to us what happens to him because we either a) have or b) at least be confident that we have better depth than Balfour.

Why do a have a fear that Dessens will be that "veteran presence" in a few weeks? Man, you just read my mind. I just had that exact sinking feeling that it will be Balfour for Dessens swap.... not exactly excited about that possibility.

Will Balfour clear waivers though? With flying colors!!

I really think that it might be best to assume he's not and maybe try to make him/her feel welcome... I think you may have a tough time with this request given the idea..... but I only have one strike left, so I'm going to say: Welcome to our friendly site, sir, and please keep those ideas coming in! We may respectfully disagree on occasion, but we love all posters equally!!

They've hinted loudly that they're going to stick with the extended pitching staff. He may be the odd man out, but I think it would be for another reliever in Nashville or someone via the trade route. Probably right. Tonight's game didn't exactly ease the "8 games in 7 days" dilemma, did it?

Wouldn't surprise me if the real release will be out yet this evening DFA'ing Balfour and activating Hall.
  12. MoneyballMan
maybe the cubs will pick him up Then we should move this to the "Curse the Cubs" thread!

I don't care who they put in to pitch. The offense has to score more than one run. You just can't expect the bulpen to hold the other team down forever. Very true. Not scoring with the bases loaded really cost us. We wouldn't have even seen Balfour then. Against Cinci at the homerpark, we HAVE to score more than 1 run.

Miller was the last position player... You mean, put a pitcher out there at C? Too bad we didn't get out of the inning - we could have stuck Balfour behind the plate as a little punishment!

MILWAUKEE - July 23, 2007 (AP) - Given Grant Balfour's complete lack of big league pitching ability, not to mention is inability to throw a strike, he was designated for assignment after Milwaukee's 2-1 loss to Cincinnati this evening. Last seen, Mr. Balfour was seen in the fetal position in the corner of the clubhouse crying after manager Ned Yost stuck the game ball ... (ok, can't use a "strike" to finish that sentence). In unrelated news, Milwaukee has still not acquired Adam Dunn for Matt Wise, even though several blogs have speculated about such a move.
  16. MoneyballMan
Has the "Balfour DFA'd" thread started yet?
  17. MoneyballMan
Ok, let's get back to the topic of giving me a "strike" back for holding my tongue for this game!! This one easily qualified for losing it with an expletive or two. Brian, where's a little love for my stellar behavior lately? And note, I'm not arguing with your logic on the Cordero issue tonight!
  18. MoneyballMan
God, I feel like taking one of my three strikes right now. This is not ONLY one game either. We are in a pennant chase on July 23rd and we have only given away games all year and have not taken more than one or two all year. You'll have to use one of yours - I think I only have one left, so I need to be careful!! How many positive posts do I need to have before I start earning strikes back? Moderators - please note that I used no expletives tonight even though this game deserved a few!!! Please give me a strike back......
  19. MoneyballMan
How soon will the announcement come out that they DFA'd him? By 10pm or as soon as the PR people can proof DM's statement?
  20. MoneyballMan
Well Balfour can get his ticket for Nashville right away. Only if he pays his own way. He's done as a major league pitcher. Gone.
  21. MoneyballMan
It would be a shame to lose this game with Coco sitting in the bullpen. Anyone want to place a bet on how soon Balfour is DFA'd?
  22. MoneyballMan
That's as animated as I have ever seen Yost on the mound. Good for him! Balfour is going to get a ball shoved up his ....by Yost if he doesn't throw a damn strike pretty soon..
  23. MoneyballMan
Bruce, duh. It's illegal to use your closer on the road in a non-save situation. Funny how Yost follows some of these "rules" pretty closely yet other ones don't really matter to him. And can none of our RP's go more than one inning? Going to be interesting when we get to the 18th inning. SO much for Balfour.
  24. MoneyballMan
know a grilled cheese sandwhich does sound rather tasty right now NO, it's "sammich"
  25. MoneyballMan
Man, that grilled cheese samwhich really looks good.....may have to go make myself one! Cheddar or American?
