  1. Also helps: - Starting depth in the case of injury - hitters knowing they don't have to score 8 to win. - team confidence - attendance - other starters knowing they have less pressure Also an true ace in the playoffs is really like 1.5 aces with the off days.. There's the kicker.....Sabathia, Sheets, Parra may be all you need in the playoffs...and two out of three lefties! I'd take my chances with those three.....
  2. Good counterpoint. Prospects are prospects until they prove themselves as the MLB level. And let's go a little further - is Weeks ever going to live up to his vaunted prospect status? And until Hardy started raking the last two weeks, many were clamoring for his job!
  3. I saw one Cubs fan on another site say something like "I would offer anybody in the minors other than Vitters. That would surely beat the Brewers offer." That sounds about right for a Cubs fan. What exactly would "beat the Brewers offer" Mr. Cubs fan? Anything concrete? They just don't have the prospects and they're bitter. I may not like the idea of giving up LaPorta, but at least we have him to give!! And the Cubs fans reaction may be worth the price of trading him to get CC. Can you imagine?!! "The Cubs are entitled to a World Series" Doesn't everyone know that? As the cuddly, lovable Cubs fan......buries Wrigley Field in trash because a call went the wrong way (or in this case, they didn't get their man.....)
  4. I don't think Fielder goes mid-season. This off-season, however, is another question altogether. SF needs him and we'll need good, young MLB-ready SP. It will just be interesting to see if we can snag two or three players for him. Jonathan Sanchez, Brian Wilson and prospect? Too much/too little? Ok, this is probably for the Prince thread....now back to CC.
  5. It would be like a super duper Christmas if they can get him AND sign him to an extension. Then I don't mind putting LaPorta in the deal. I just don't see the Crew being able to meet his $$ demands, though. He'd be in Cleveland long-term if this were the case. We're talking 7 years / $160-170, which we just can't/shouldn't pay.
  6. I think I agree - I really don't like giving up LaPorta. Don't get me wrong - I'd be very excited to see CC in a Brewers uniform (hopefully in the World Series), but I'm getting cold feet including LaPorta in the deal. One "reason" I've heard is that he's represented by Scott Boras - yet that shouldn't matter until 2015 or so!! If we're going to trade every Scott Boras client, I'd say there's a portly first baseman that higher on the list to be shipped out than LaPorta.... Has anyone heard any CC rumor that does NOT include us giving up LaPorta???
  7. Ok.. the Linebrink trade is a good reason why doing this makes sense.. let's see we traded for a bullpen rental and this season the Padres: - Have relief pitcher with a 7.40 ERA - 2 AA Prospects yet. The Brewers got: - 1/2 season with a sub-.400 ERA - 2 Prospects So the Brewers took a shot and at this point are not necessarily worse off.. In fact none of the 3 pitchers sent to SD may not amount to anything.. And for the people that can't understand why the Brewers are taking a shot how about: - Their ace will be gone next year. - Suppan will not be better - Their bullpen is relatively ancient (Mota, Shouse, Torres, Gagne) - It doesn't appear that Weeks and Hall will bounce back at this point. - Cameron, Branyan, and Kendall are over 30.. - Prince is chubby.. Now with that said they still set themselves up for a decent future but they have a legitimate world series shot if they can fill in a couple of holes.. This is the CY YOUNG award winner... Remember when we were happy to hear about Zambrano going on the DL.. us adding Sabathia is the equivalent of Z being out for the year.. it has the chance of that much impact. Roll the dice and let's play some October/November baseball... Hehe....made me laugh a little bit (the Prince is chubby part). And he's not going to get less chubby the older he gets (and I speak from experience!)
  8. That rotation makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I was going to say something else, but it would probably have been R rated.
  9. Rafael Betancourt as part of the CC deal.
  10. That's crap, but not surprising in the least. I'm sure all Cubs fans believe they're "entitled" to CC as well....
  11. We better not have to wait all weekend without this either happening or not. Come on, DM have a little compassion for all of us morons who can't sleep until there's some closure here!! Either make this thing happen or ditch it and go grab Maddux for TGJ. I would really enjoy the atmosphere at the game Monday night if CC is on the mound for us, though......
  12. Stop showing freakin' highlights and talk about the CC trade to the Brewers!!
  13. All looks good, except LaPorta will be in Cleveland....
  14. Obviously no deal since they're running through every damn game.....
  15. We need an official update! Although I'll bet DM went to bed without a deal...
  16. Sunday or Monday would be fine - I have tickets for both games. Ok, we need an "official" update. Who's turn was it to bug DM's study???
  17. I'm so excited I can't even put my thoughts together. Sheets and CC could battle each other for the freakin' NL Cy Young award!! On the same team! Your Milwaukee Brewers!! It has to happen tonight....I may not sleep until it happens.... as long as it's not a crappy deal.....
  18. If we are giving Melvin the credit for this statement, we might as well credit the parents, his teachers, and high school coaches. Again, Jack Z put these guys together. Melvin pissed away 20 million this year on washed up talent. Amen.
  19. Re: Tony Gwynn - as you said, they definitely needed someone else who could play 2B IMO. It's probably not perfect timing, but it may be a good opportunity to see if he'll ever be an MLB player vs AAAA. (pared back long quote --1992)
  20. Weaver has actually had a couple of good starts the last two times out. McClung has done an admirable job and it's nice to know he could fill in as a spot starter. But before you lose Weaver, I'd say give him a shot - assuming his next start is also a good one. He's at least as good as McClung and you can always DFA him later. And if he's that bad, he may just accept an assignment to Nashville outright if he clears waivers at that point (if we'd even want him to continue working his way back at that point). But I think the upside of having Weaver return to previous form is too great to not at least take a shot at.
  21. If you had your choice right now (for the long-term), would you rather have Gamel or Ian Stewart?? I actually have the decision in a simulation league where I'm contemplating a trade that would include one or the other. Stewart seems to be more prominently displayed on BA's top prospect list, yet the more I look at Gamel the more I like how he projects. Opinions?
  22. Anyone know what happened to Jose Capellan after the Rox DFA's him on 5/2? Just haven't been able to find an update, although it appears he's just done. Any update would be appreciated.
