  1. First question, do people think Cameron will hit 20+ in his 130 or so starts? Second question, has a team ever had 7 guys with 20 or more HR on it? I think this years team could. Hardy is the only one that I'm iffy on, but I think Braun/Fielder/Weeks/Hall/Hart are locks.
  2. Couldn't agree more with all of this. And while Capuano may not been as bad as his ERA and his 22 straight appearances without a win, he certainly was never an ace last year. When Cappy is on and it his best, he's a solid #2 guy, if he can get back to his 2006/2005 production, I would be ecstatic to have him in the rotation given he'd be our #4 or #5. But he was never an ace, no matter how you try and bend the stats. Villanueva has produced the entire time he has been in the majors. He also has a higher probability of improving than anyone else on the staff outside of Yo. It will be absolutely mind boggling if he's not in the rotation, especially with Gallardo sidelined to start the year. (pared back long quote --1992)
  3. Ender, was he better than Cappy/Bush/Vargas last year? Yes. Maybe he wasn't as good as his ERA, but without seeing any stats I would have called him the top pitcher out of those four, and he's still improving, most likely, given his age/experience.
  4. You do not put superior talent in AAA just because you have a lot of pitchers in a win-now mode year. We have 8 possible starters yes, but that doesn't mean they are all of equal talent. Vargas is steaming filth. Bush and Cappy are both talented guys, but both have question marks. What does Villanueva have to do to prove he belongs in the damn rotation, especially when our #2 just went down with injury? No one can sell Villy to AAA.
  5. It's a simple decision, that's my point. I don't want to have to be complaining before the season starts, but I will be no question if Villanueva is sent to the minors.
  6. Vargas' trade value is minimal regardless. I'd rather put the top rotation out there. Every game matters, as the division will likely be very close again this season.
  7. Not a big deal. I guess I'm extremely confused as to why the Brewers would take a simple thing and make it very complicated. Yo will be ready by April 19th, that will have given him almost 9 weeks since the surgery. So we need four starters up until then. Sheets Suppan Villanueva whoever wins it between Bush/Capuano then Yo comes back on/after 04/19. Not that damn hard, it just isn't.
  8. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/mil/schedule?v=cal&m=04&y=2008 http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=mil&m=4&y=2008 Off day on 04/01, Cubs opener is 03/31.
  9. Game 1 of the Cubs series is 03/31, game 2 is 04/02, I've seen this on every site I've been on. It's actually four days rest and he will pitch Saturday the 6th for the Giants series. Just trust me on this, we don't have to have a fifth starter until 04/19, assuming four days rest before every start.
  10. There is a day off between game 1 and game 2 of the Cubs series. They do not need a fifth starter until 04/19, and there is a very good chance Yo will be ready then. This isn't very hard, but of course we will probably make it so.
  11. April 19th is the first game we will need a fifth starter. If we're smart, we'll use Sheets, Suppan, CV, and Capuano/Bush until then. But Yost isn't smart, so who knows.
  12. That would be pretty much a nightmare scenario. No Gallardo and no Villanueva to start the year and Vargas in the rotation. Words cannot describe how mad I will be if that happens. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  13. Capuano has a career 4.39 ERA, career 1.36 WHIP, and career .266 BAA. Considering that with everyone healthy he's probably our #5 starter, is that really that bad? His two years prior to 2007 were very good. I'm willing to bet if he's in the rotation next year he's at worst in the top half of #5 starters in the National League. Not having CV in the rotation makes absolutely no sense though. None. I don't think it will happen either.
  14. I think it's pretty much time to just ignore John Briggs completely.
  15. I will be absoluely LIVID if CV is in the minors. He's arguably our THIRD best starter, and in a pretty solid sample size last year proved he can pitch. I will go ape if this happens.
  16. Easy, because John Briggs is a big time pessimist. Realistically, I expect upward trends from Weeks and Hall, slight downward trends from Fielder, Hardy, Braun. Hart will be about the same. I expect Cameron to have similar power numbers to Jenkins but with a higher OBP. Kendall will have a lower BA and power numbers but higher OBP than Estrada. So realistically, it appears our team OBP will rise at least slightly, with little to no drop in power numbers. I don't see how people could say we're not a top five offense in the NL.
  17. Cameron has a career .341 OBP, which isn't elite by any means, but is still pretty solid for a guy who should raise his numbers somewhat playing in Miller Park over Petco.
  18. We don't have to absolutely use a fifth starter until April 19th, so there is some flexibility there.
  19. First overall trade: Ellsbury/Lester/Crisp to the Twins Santana to the BoSox First Crew trade: Rolen/Franklin to Crew, $4M per year of Rolen's salary picked up ($12M total). Capuano/Gwynn/Mench to the Cardinals.
  20. I have no predictions as of yet, but if it's Cubs vs. Yankees, I'm rooting for the Yankees. In fact, I'd probably jump off a bridge first.
  21. I'd let Vargas walk, give arby to Bush, and move him to the pen. Get rid of Wise. Decline Jenkins team option and try to use that money to resign Cordero. Let Linebrink go and get the compensatory picks. Rotation: 1. Sheets 2. Yo 3. Capuano 4. Suppan 5. Villanueva Pen: Turnbow Cordero Parra Bush Shouse ?? ?? Last two spots in the pen I really don't have any idea. Maybe FA, maybe trades, maybe from within.
  22. Last time i checked, teams final records aren't adjusted at the end of the season based on stat formulas of what some feel the record should have been.If you finish .500,you did actually win half your games. Agreed 100%. If we're not going to use records to illustrate success, what should we use, fan perception? We've gone from 81 to 75 to 82. We haven't really improved in the last two seasons. The proof is in the pudding.
  23. I'm not asking for individual accomplishments, I'm talking about the team as a whole. We have a legitimate shot to be .500. We were .500 in 2005. The manager is still making the same mistakes and will likely be back next year. Both the pitching and the defense regressed. I'm sorry, I just can't find the positives. Playing "meaningful baseball in September" is relative, because the team you're chasing is also mediocre and you're playing in by far the worst division in baseball. We will win probably 82 games in a terrible division.
