  1. If Yost would have just taken it easy on the coffee this whole mess would have never happened. I would find it quite amusing if the Royals went on to win 80+ games while Macha leads the Crew to 70 or less wins.
  2. You should probably use a rate stat here -- as all the teams have played different amount of games... Yeah, that takes too long on my phone. There would be some movement, as the Red Sox would likely replace the Angels in the bottom 5. I believe the top five would remain the same.
  3. Brewer pitchers have issued 164 walks, which is better than four teams: CLE (165), LAA (166), KC (173), NYM (184) The combined record of these five teams is 84-118. The top five teams in walks issued: MIN (91), PHI (105), StL (114), SEA (121), TB (122) are a combined 114-86, with the Mariners dragging that down a bit with a putrid offense. Maybe the Brewers can find an organizational goal somewhere in this data.
  4. It really looks like Peterson should have stuck to his biomechanics business rather than act like he knows how to manage big league pitchers. He is starting to look like a sham. How can every single pitcher on this staff be lagging their career norms?
  5. There are a plethora of pathetic stats available to describe the 2010 Milwaukee Sewers.
  6. Team Irrelevant Team Redundant Team Who? Team There's Always Next Year
  7. The only point to firing Macha is that it might possibly send a message to the team It could possibly have an effect on the intangible of team chemistry. The hiring of Macha in the first place was similar to trying to drive a square peg into a round hole. This season is lost anyway, so Mark Attanasio could just ride these guys until the end and fire them once its all over. However, I am not sure how comfortable Mark A. should be with allowing Melvin to run the draft and trade Fielder. We could very well end up with another Big Ten pitcher going nowhere and a bag of magical beans.
  8. what are you talking about? I thought it would be clear given the numbers I laid out.
  9. The bunt was fine, Macha's luck isn't. No matter what he decides to do, it ends badly.
  10. I obviously cannot control how people form their perceptions or interpret my argument or determine how "nonobjective" said argument is (although I am not sure how nonobjective being the worst relief pitcher in baseball could be). I am done commenting in this thread, you're welcome (believe me I heard the "thank you"). There's nothing left to discuss here anyway, its a closed case and has been for weeks. Last one gone turn off the lights.
  11. I never used the word hate, just in case someone wants to infer I have.
  12. It really isn't. Unless you don't view baseball players as humans. So realizing someone cannot do their job anymore translates directly into not liking that person. Sounds rather fragile of a translation.
  13. He said Wednesday afternoon that he still wants the ball in the ninth inning. "If it was something other than the fact I was getting my head beat in, I would worry," Its these two comments that ate at me. He comes across as selfish to me. I can see how he just doesn't get it, since its all that he knows and would just love to do it forever. But he's gotta come to grip with reality, he is the worst relief pitcher in the league this year. Worst. Pitcher. Worst pitchers in the league don't get to have the ball in the ninth inning.
  14. Claiming he is toast and not liking the guy are mutually exclusive.
  15. Wow, now I'm actually starting to not like the guy. What a shame. If this was NY, there would be a bounty out for his head.
  16. They have a guaranteed contract of millions of dollars, that kind of money easily out weighs any shame players get for being washed up. Exactly. For $5 million, I would have no problem suffering another four months of humiliation, especially if during the humiliation I still was able to eat all the catered food I wanted, hang out at the ballpark all day, and do even less work than I was hired to do in the first place. Some humiliation that guy is going to suffer the rest of the year. Re: Solomon Torres - that was for personal reasons, and it was after the season was over. He walked away from a club option buyout ($0.3M), because he no longer wanted to play. That's not even close to Hoffman's situation.
  17. Is anyone else preparing for a 8-2 beat-down delivered by the hands of the mighty Pirates?
  18. If he keeps up a .217 BABIP He no doubt will considering his penchant for the "ground ball softly hit to second base," as game day likes to say. Sure Gerut has a career .791 OPS against RHP, but its .660 in 2009 and .462(!) here in 2010 (combined covering 317 plate appearances). His career number are skewed by a fluke (yeah, I'll say it) 2003 and 2008 campaign. Gerut has a .176 OBP(!) against RHP this year, and it was .286 last year. Forgive me if my evaluation of Jody Gerut (right now and not three years ago) is unfavorable. He wasn't worth $2 million simply based on what he did last season, which was less terrible than what he is doing this season. Why oh why do these terrible players continue to write themselves into the Brewers' record book? Again vs. RHP 2009: .235/.286/.374/.660 in 266 plate appearances 2010: .143/.176/.286/.462 in 51 plate appearances Edited to include data on Gabe Gross vs. RHP: 2009: .233/.325/.348/.673 in 290 plate appearances 2010: .302/.326/.302/.628 in 46 plate appearances Over the last two years, Gross has been better than Gerut.
  19. Gerut can handle CF This is certainly up for debate. This is Gabe Gross of the .574 OPS in 2010, .684 OPS in '09 As opposed to Gerut's .608 in 2010 and .654 in '09? Gerut's decent OPS+ is based on two years, 2003 and 2008. By my calculation, he will have one more decent year in 2013.
  20. Jody Gerut's career OPS+ is 104, and he had a season of 132 as recently as two years ago. Fantastic, good for Jody Gerut. How's he been as a Brewer? I would bet he doesn't make $2 million with any other team. Gabe Gross is making $750k this year, and has never made more than $1.255 million in any given year. Are you saying what I think you are saying? That Jody Gerut is better than Gabe Gross? Are you claiming that you thought $2M for Gerut was a bad idea coming into the season? Yes, that is what I was thinking at the time. Forgive me if I didn't scribe it somewhere here.
  21. No, don't pay terrible $2 million when you can get terrible for so much less. I can live with terrible, but not when they are paid like Craig Counsell, who is not terrible.
  22. I completely agree. Doesn't take away from the facts.
  23. Not sure why anyone is concerned with Jody Gerut, looking at this team. My concern stems from the fact that he is playing everyday right now, and that he is terrible. Other than that I have no problem with Jody Gerut.
  24. Davis is getting paid peanuts No, McGehee is getting paid peanuts. Davis is getting $5.5 million. And if I was running the team, 2 DFA's so far, but you sure were close with that 20 guess. If the Brewers go down the injury road with Hoffman I will be furious. The transparency will be gagging. Someone needs to man up, whether its Hoffman or Melvin, and end this already. Its pathetic. “I feel prepared and ready to go out there. I’m just not getting it done.” This was my objection as well -- I suspect it was marketing driven in a large part. From a business perspective, there is no doubt in my mind marketing played a huge role in signing Hoffman for this year. The 600 saves banner was likely brainstormed the very next day.
  25. So Doug Davis will be just fine once the defense starts lining up where the balls will be hit? Is it possible the balls are finding the holes because Davis' pitches are extremely easy to hit this year? I guess I don't get where this is leading. Doug Davis is terrible. Trevor Hoffman is terrible. These two, along with Suppan, Vargas, and Hawkins, are the main reasons for the complete demoralization of the team and fanbase.
