  1. BA using the word "flare" as a verb is a fitting end to another pathetic game. Vomit.
  2. I agree with this comment the most. One could argue the respect factor, but with someone like Yost, how much respect would a Braun or Fielder have for a career backup catcher? A non-traditional manager might leave Hawkins in to finish the game after dominating the prior inning and only throwing 13 pitches. But the traditional baseball guy MUST go to his [struggling] closer, because that's the way it is and shall be done.
  3. For the same reason you provide for not giving up, I provide for how demoralizing this team can be. Instead of one player stepping up each time to get the win, we are talking about one player imploding and costing the win. Its not looking good, and its too early to not be looking good.
  4. The Cubs have a huge national fanbase. Its mainly because their radio and TV broadcasts were widely available in the 70-80's, while most teams broadcasts were not.
  5. Only part of the game I caught was the bottom of the 4th on the radio. Davey Nelson was actually really good in as the color guy from what I heard. I liked it. But Doug Davis + Jeff Suppan = 95% chance of Losing. Edit: Scoring Zero runs = 100% chance of Losing. But in this case it was just a bonus.
  6. Sounds like a Plan B to me. Let's do it!
  7. We went to the playoffs with a replacement closer in Torres. But they had to acquire CC Sabathia to make that happen. I don't see an acquisition of that magnitude happening this year (didn't that year either, but moot). Therefore, margin of error is even slimmer this year than in 2008. They can implement replacement closer now, or continue to send a pitcher WORSE than 2008 Gagne (at this point) out night after night. Glad its not my decision, but I would implement Plan B immediately, even though Macha said he doesn't know what it is (I'm sure he can figure one out in between naps).
  8. I'm a bit demoralized because in essence we do not have an effective closer. Until that situation is resolved, I will be demoralized each time the current closer is trotted out there, and its due to a complete lack of player accountability with respect to management. I will feel demoralized with a 1 or 2 run lead late in games. Fans should not feel demoralized when their team is holding a lead. Solomon Torres where are you? Maybe he changed his name to Todd Coffey?
  9. I have. It was Trevor Hoffman actually, in 2007. How many games did you see? I had no idea you were also a Padre fan. Glad you can recall those games. BTW, it might have been 2008.
  10. How can you say we have a terrible team? Because they are in last place with the Pirates, and the Pirates are bad. Hence, I can see where the Brewers could be considered bad.
  11. I have never seen a future HOF player perform as poorly as Trevor Hoffman has this year either. Firsts for everything I guess.
  12. I agree, why is the media not asking about the lack of changeups. It all seems fishy that they are not talking about this. Answered Asked why he shied away from throwing changeups, Hoffman said, "Today, it was pretty much a tied ball game after two pitches. I felt like in that situation, getting ahead 0-1 and continuing to expand with the fastball (was the right approach), and the ball was not down and away. "I'm pigeon-holing myself into situations where the hitter can be a little more patient. He doesn't have to offer at (the changeup). I'm pitching behind in the count. You do that in the big leagues, the numbers will indicate that. It's more of an 'out' pitch than a 'getting back in the count' pitch. That's the dynamic of that pitch." Asked if needs to start throwing his changeup more, no matter what the count is, Hoffman said, "I think a well-located fastball is a lot better pitch than ones out over the plate. Obviously, I'm missing there and they're hitting them pretty hard. It's a function of not throwing quality strikes. "The bottom line is it punches the team in the gut. They battled very hard tonight to put us in position to win. It's similar to the other games I let get away. It's a tough effect on the ball club. You come in here and feel the mood."
  13. The Twins should give him 6/$75M. Of course, I don't like the Twins.
  14. That is my question. If Hoffman blows another 3 or 4 saves in a short period of time, do they call Braddock up? Or is ti too soon for that? This line of thinking is too radical and progressive for a management team that loves to give old, washed up pitchers millions of dollars to hold down the bullpen.
  15. Can we reconsider the "dead arm" discussion already? Sure it can be reconsidered, but at the same time it should be considered. So he's had success for 20 years, does that automatically mean we should believe he can do it for another 20? I saw someone mention Moyer at age 47 is pitching effectively this year. So why isn't Maddox or Glavine still pitching if Moyer can do it? Put it this way, he's either injured or done. Take your pick. One thing he hasn't been all year is effective, even in his "saves."
  16. I think Trevor's luck has run out, 85 MPH fastballs probably aren't going to cut it anymore. Maybe he needs a song switch. Like Runnin' With the Devil or Highway to Hell or Hell is Home or 'HELL ain't a bad place to be' - AC/DC 'Come HELL or high water' - AC/DC
  17. The whole "Trevor Time/Hells Bells" thing is losing its luster almost as fast as the whole "Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire" thing. Each one was about a year. I really don't care how big of a legend he is, right now he's costing the Brewers games. Please make it stop.
  18. So Peterson doesn't talk to Hoffman about pitch selection? What does Rick talk about then when discussing all the HRs and runs Trevor is giving up. Macha: "He is the all time saves leader, he knows what he is doing out there." Yeah, he sure does know what he's doing. What he doesn't know is he's making me sick. This team is gonna suck big time this year if Melvin/Macha don't get some stones and make some tough decisions. Its clear we have two pitchers on this staff that are no longer effective, and another 37 year old pitcher who has blown up big twice. I'm not sure how much I can stomach before I start to reallocate my time to other outlets.
  19. Whatever they decide to do with the countdown banner, it was a dumb idea in the first place. Hoffman even thought so, and he probably really hates it now.
  20. The person who dreamed up the banner idea may not be very popular right about now. If Hoffman can't be trusted with one run leads, he shouldn't be the closer. His 85 mph, no movement fastball right down the middle doesn't appear to be fooling anyone. I'm sure its not popular here or anywhere in the org, but I am ready for Braddock Time. Hoffman is pretty much as spent as Suppan at this point in time. He gives up runs nearly every time he takes the mound. Not good Brewer fans, not good.
  21. I see you are getting it, except John Russell trumps Ken Macha.
  22. So is this only if Suppan pitches 500 innings this year? If not, you're on. Under 5.75
  23. I didn't notice the Brewers looking like anything. I'll take that every night please. Determination, not defeat. Fire, not ice. Shhhh, Macha is napping [Go Brewers].
