  1. That reminds me of most local business associations we've ever been part of. They're supposed to be about networking to improve the business climate in the area. Yet virtually everyone there is either a financial advisor or insurance salesman looking for clients.
  2. Playing with the dog in 25ish degree weather, with no wind is the best way to spend the first day of the year.
  3. I honestly don't know how many of those players were drafted and developed or acquired via trade years ago so I can't compare our draft and develop process to theirs What I do know is lately we have developed a few stars of our own recently. If we then add more high ceiling prospects via trading guys like Yelich instead of paying them 20% of our available payroll budget our farm will produce more.
  4. The later years of the deal likely will, but that's the price of doing business in today's MLB. Small market teams typically trade off guys like Yelich entering their prime earning years, basically serving as farm systems for the Dodgers and Yankees of the world. Personally I'm sick of that philosophy, so I'm glad that the Brewers took another path on Yelich. It will be a challenge, but having Yelich on this team likely means that we will be witnessing relevant baseball for the next decade, just like we have for most of the length of Braun's deal. The Rays have done that for years. They seem to be more than just a AAAA team used to stock the Yankees shelves. The Yelich signing is good from the fan perspective because we love him. it isn't good from the fans perspective because that contact may be why we don't have winning baseball four years from now. To maintain a winning organization we have to maintain one philosophy not jump from one to the other based on a player's popularity with the fanbase. Yelich gave us a bit of a hometown discount which may be why they did it and why it may work out. I hope it does. Having our cake and eating it too would be nice. I'm not so sure it can be done. If it can't then the choice is pay the fan favorite or have a winning team for the next decade plus. I prefer we go with the latter.
  5. Thanks for the heads up. Definitely going to tell my sister about it. I feel the same way about Disney as you do but audio descript would be a major improvement for her. On a side note with three daughters I'm guessing the toilet seat is always down or dad gets in trouble.
  6. McRibs are the single best food stuff made of pork gristle and shredded cardboard in the world. Add the high fructose corn syrup in tomato sauce masquerading as barbeque sauce, pickle and onion and it creates a nearly edible food substitute.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We'll keep doing it but it is nice to have some ways of making it easier for them to feel ok about it. Once this whole covid thing is over it'll be easier to just invite them over for dinner once in a while. Not to mention ask them for help so they feel better about it.
  8. A family down the street from us don't have a lot. They go to the food bank and live in a subsidized house. My wife and I always buy a little extra and put it on their doorstep anonymously. A bag of apples, some drawing supplies for the kids that sort of thing. We do it anonymously because nobody wants to be the taker so it leaves them with a bit more dignity. We just found out our neighbor (whom we have always called Mrs Kravitz after the nosy neighbor on Bewitched) told them who it was. Now it feels awkward. I don't want to stop because I know they can use it but I don't want them feeling like they owe us or thinking we view them as "that" family. Just not sure how to go about it now that they know who it is.
  9. I have a daughter that is completely blind and her Echo Dot enables her to do so much. Music, books, just "talking"... she uses it like the rest of us use TV or other screens. We have it hooked up to our phone line so she can call anyone in my phone list. Her best friend also has a Dot also, so they can chat with each other. I'm sure sometime in my life she will be driving places too. Amazing times. The just talking part is what surprised me. Mom said she just asks it random questions more than anything. Maybe it's because it's new but I think it's more than that. She can't speak more than a few words at a time because her muscles are spastic and simply don't work very well so it's hard to converse. Asking a question and getting an answer allows her to be a more active participant than just listening to music or a story. It sucks to have a normal, inquisitive brain with a largely non functioning body. Just wish I'd have thought of it sooner.
  10. I called my parents last might and asked how the Alexa experience is going. My sister, who has severe CP, only limited use of one hand, cannot walk or even sit up on her own and is legally blind, but perfectly normal intelligence has started using it and hasn't stopped. It took some time for Alexa to get used to her voice because it's not smooth but now she can listen to music and stories any time she wants. She's also been asking it questions just for the hell of it. Given her entire life is one big quarantine in a prison far worse than any I could endure it's nice to know she has more independence from one simple purchase and a couple hours of my time. That's it's right before Christmas just makes it all the more sweet. I guess I'll have to get mom a new one since my sister pretty much commandeered hers.
  11. The Brewers signed several players for less than they made last season and/or under projected salaries for next season. That leads me to believe the players know this is going to be a depressed market. Which in turn makes me wonder why the Dodgers are willing to go to arby with him on top of paying something to get him in the first place.
  12. In his lone full season he posted a 111 wRC+ & 1.6 WAR. If he can approximate those numbers in 2021 it would be perfectly cromulent production for 1.4 million dollars. Don't really have anything to add. I just wanted to commend you on the use of the word cromulent.
  13. I guess if you don't have one good player get a bunch of cheap players and see if you can catch lightning in a bottle. The option makes it easier to do that in this instance. It doesn't have to be for the long term given Feliciano is in the pipeline.
  14. Helping my elderly parents figure out how to set up a new device over the phone is quite the challenge. First thing I discovered is since the 90's every time they got a new tablet, PC or laptop in the house they set up a new email account to go with it. They never use email so they never know which email they used, exactly how it's spelled or what their password is. I got them an Alexa device and it took me an hour just to find out which email account they had attached to their Amazon prime account so I could reset their password. Finally got the right email, opened it then sent a forgot password sent to it. I then reset the password to something I would remember next time they asked me to fix it. Told her it was Balloon(plus stuff) Mom kept spelling it Ballonn. I kept telling her it was spelled Balloon. She kept saying that's what I said Ballonn. Then I had to help them get the device set up. Explaining things like scroll down or swipe left was like telling a blind person what the color green looks like. Sometimes I wish I had kids to annoy when I'm old. At least when it was done they got a kick out of it.
  15. That 2004 season from Sheets was one of the most dominant I ever saw from any Brewer pitcher. It's a shame he never got the credit he deserved.
  16. Trading Hader might help find some offense in key spots for less than what Gyorko would have cost.
  17. Gyorko is surprising. I wonder if they're worried fans might not be allowed for at least part of 2021 and really don't want to get caught with a lot of red ink. Or perhaps think salaries will be down considerably because other teams are making that part of the calculation.
  18. ] They still make them. Problem is the font is so small the few people who might use it are too old to be able to read it.
  19. $3.5 million to keep him sounds reasonable.
  20. I doubt Knebel gets that. Wouldn't surprise we to see him sign for less with an option year.
  21. I did a yard decoration today to a kid who has covid. I'm masked up as usual but both the mom and dad had to come out and talk to me maskless. Is it that hard to show some respect for those who are trying to stay virus free? That in a nutshell is why were are where we're at.
  22. Somebody please let me know when I can buy just Brewers games without having to have cable or some other streaming services giving me all kinds of stuff I don't want. Until then I'll just listen to the games and watch the occasional game on free tv. I simply refuse to pay for crap I don't want to watch one thing I do.
  23. Last summer that was pretty much every weekend night in my not-so-sleepy town of 3,000,000. Between the young millennials singing and playing music on their back balcony in the alley (sometimes until 5am) and the others in the community setting of fireworks/M-80's all night long, I had to invest in silicone earplugs. Well worth the $6 investment to have around just in case. Might need to invest in some. I work late a lot of Saturdays and Sunday morning at 8am there's often polka music playing in the basement of the church next door. It's hard to complain about too. What am I supposed to do? Yell "Turn that accordion down you bunch of geriatric hooligans or I'll call the medi-van to take you home before the pudding is served!!!"
  24. So know what you mean. We're a balloon store so kids are going to be a little over excited and most parents really do try. Most seem embarrassed so I try t put them at ease. We have a turtle they can look at that usually helps which also helps. If the parents try I'm totally cool with it. It's that one or two that just don't seem to care or feel entitled because they're customers that really gets annoying. Fortunately nodakfan17 has it right. They are few and far between. Also I keep in mind I go home to my nice, brat free house and they're stuck at home with the rodents.
  25. My Chiropractor gives me at home exercises to do as well. The only thing I don't like about chiropractors is most of them are way to into supplements. Not that I have anything against supplements per say but the industry is so poorly regulated it's almost impossible to know what you're actually getting. It's also not exactly rigorously tested to see if it actually works. Oh and someone who learns how to adjust a spinal column isn't exactly the right person to determine if I'm getting enough zinc in my diet for optimal heart health. Other than that I have received a lot of relief for actual back pain from going to them over the years.
