  1. I think Green would need to start putting up a .400 batting average week in and week out before Roenicke would start him
  2. I cannot really blame anything from this season on Roenicke & Melvin because of the injuries. I still think McGehee for Veras was an amazing trade. I'm pretty annoyed that Izturis is all we have at SS now, Melvin really rolled the dice on that one and came up (literally) empty. I agree that they both deserve extensions. I find it amusing/ironic that a few games after Ron Roenicke realized that the Catcher didn't have to be permanently attached to the #8 slot, he received a contract extension! I know the two aren't related, but it'd be pretty funny if they were...
  3. If that means that Melvin will build for the future a little bit instead of every season being "all in/win now" then I'm all for it. The last thing we need in this particular season is Doug Melvin thinking this is his last year and then "really going for it" at the Trade Deadline Read the writing on the wall Doug and be a seller in July, get us some great young players for the future
  4. Hamels did get hit by a pitch his next time up... the retaliation already happened
  5. The Orioles would want young talent for Hardy. Not sure I'd want to trade whatever young talent we have for 2-3 years of Hardy. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing. I suppose it depends on if we are rebuilding in 2013 or not...
  6. What I like about Harper is his all-out hustle. Other than not running full speed to first on a walk, he reminds me more of Pete Rose in terms of his hustle than any other player. Before he stole home, it was his hustle going 1st to 3rd on a single to leftfield that put him in position to steal home. And then later in the game he turned a little bloop single to left into a double. Harper is also making diving grabs in the outfield. He reminds me of another 19 year old phenom, Ken Griffey Jr, and I can't help but wonder if, similar to Griffey, Harper's all out hustle and diving plays in the outfield will lead to injuries throughout his career
  7. I will join in the chorus of others saying it makes no sense to continue to block Taylor Green, this time with Derrick Lee. Lee has put up a .760 OPS in the last 2 seasons. They don't think that Green can put up similar numbers at the very least, at a much lower cost while gaining valuable experience for the future? Then in 2013, instead of Taylor Green being the valuable LHB off the bench (at least that, if not starting somewhere for the Brewers) who can play 1B-2B-3B-OF, the Brewers can instead go with someone older because Ron Roenicke isn't comfortable with Green's "lack of experience"?! Seriously?
  8. Cole Hamels admitted that he hit Harper with that pitch on purpose. Why would he admit that? I mean, I understand why pitchers hit batters intentionally for various reasons, but why admit it? Isn't that just inviting suspension?
  9. While you never like to see injuries, I gotta say I'm happy for Taylor Green and excited to see what he can do. He is a player who has proven himself at every step along the way and really deserves a chance to play a lot. He should've made the Brewers roster coming out of Spring Training anyways... here's hoping he plays well now and becomes a Brewers starter for many years to come His MLB experience last year will serve him well over the next few weeks and months
  10. Jeff Biachi is somewhat an interesting prospect, actually. He's already on the 40 man roster. He's 25 years old and was drafted in the 2nd round by Kansas City. He hit .308 in 2009 in A+ & AA ball as a 22 year old, before needing to sit out all of 2010 for Tommy John surgery. It has only been 19 games but he is batting .351 this season for Huntsville. His career fielding % at SS is only .967 (.946 this season) so I would imagine that is a concern. He also plays 2B and has a .991 career fielding % there. At the very least they should send him to Nashville to play SS there everyday
  11. Melvin's inability to overpay for Hairston has really come back to bite the Brewers. Of course hindsight is 20/20 but signing a player like Alex Gonzalez, with his injury history, and having Cesar Izturis as the only back-up in the entire organization, and expecting the Brewers to be contenders under such a scenario is foolhardy at best.
  12. one very ugly road trip: Gomez, Gamel, Gonzalez, Narveson on the DL. Braun playing hurt. Weeks slumping badly. Gallardo slumping too Ugly Braun's 4 HR's in his last 3 games played being a very nice silver lining
  13. I think the 2010-2011 Weeks was exactly the type of player we hoped Weeks would develop into. .270/.360/.460, 25 HR's and solid defense. Weeks' AAA hitting stats gave many hopes of him being much much better than that, certainly as good as Braun or Fielder if not even better. Granted it was only 200 at-bats in 2005 as a 22 year old but he was hitting .320 with a .435 OBP when he got called up with 12 HR's and 10 steals. At the time he projected to be a .400 OBP guy who was going to hit 35 HR's a season
  14. Yep he sure can. We need a Time Machine back to 2005-2006 or so, though. After you pick up Bill Hall from 2005, can you stop by April 2008 and tell Ned Yost to sit Ben Sheets for most of the 1st half, to save him for the playoffs?
  15. Schroeder is such a homer for the Brewers, it'll be interesting to hear him attempt to be objective for this telecast.
  16. yeah it would be very tough for any MLB manager to sit Ryan Braun vs a LHP if there is any chance at all that he can play. A career .338 BA and .627 SLG % (!) vs LHP is pretty difficult to ignore
  17. I think extra concern about Braun's injury is very legit. I'm actually surprised he's in the lineup today. An Achilles injury really needs to fully heal or it could linger for weeks, even months I wonder when the Brewers will ever figure out that Ryan Braun at 1B makes the most sense, saving the wear and tear on his legs from running in the outfield (yes I realize this particular injury happened on the basepaths)
  18. https://twitter.com/#!/Haudricourt/status/198840521865707523 Now confirmed by Ron Roenicke that Gomez will be on DL. Official move will happen after today's game
  19. I'd actually prefer they call up Taylor Green. He's been raking the last few weeks. Gindl has really struggled at the plate so far this season (batting just .191), and Schafer just plain isn't as valuable of a hitter as Green. We already have 2 CF's in Morgan & Aoki, and Conrad has played OF in the minors before... With Braun's achilles and the Brewers not being certain how long that injury might linger, they would almost for sure bring up an OF, and Logan Scafer makes the most sense. At least Schafer is an upgrade defensively over Aoki & Morgan (edited to spell "Schafer" correctly!)
  20. https://twitter.com/#!/Haudricourt/status/198832461759774721 Wonder who the Brewers would call up? Probably Schafer
  21. Good to see Braun back in the lineup, especially vs a LHP. And it'll be interesting to see what Conrad can do....
