  1. Thousands of Little League managers would be able to figure that stategy out. I like Roenicke, but stuff like that just perplexes me. My wife is not a sports genius, and even she was saying "why didn't they walk him?"
  2. The prospects stepping forward thing might prove difficult with Melvin/Roenicke in charge. Prospects have to actually play in order to step forward. Why exactly is Travis Ishikawa on the roster? I guess Aoki is technically a rookie.
  3. Black hole at the bottom of the order becoming imminent. They should bat Marcum and Narveson 8th
  4. Exactly. You are going to bring the infield in with 1 out and men on 2nd and 3rd and somehow that is a better percentage chance than K-Rod pitching with the bases loaded? Crazy crazy Ron
  5. Thornburg, Bradley & Peralta are off to fabulous starts this season. Jungmann is looking sharp, too.... Losing Greinke & Marcum does not mean the Brewers will be a 4th place team for the foreseeable future.
  6. The more I read about Wily Peralta (and I admit I wasn't initially that high on him) the more I think he could be a 3.80 ERA 114 ERA+ 1.200 WHIP guy, replacing Greinke pretty easily at $450,000 a season
  7. The last 2 seasons of ERA+ are very telling, Greinke has been right around 101 whereas Cain's ERA+ the last 2 seasons remains at his career average of 124 Hamels? Hamels is also significantly a better pitcher statistically than Greinke. Especially in the last 2 seasons: Hamels has put up ERA+ seasons of 138 & 133 which destroys Greinke's 101 & 100 Hamels is a career 3.40 ERA guy, career 125 ERA+ guy, career 3.09 post-season ERA in 81 innings Greinke doesn't compare to Hamels I'm getting the impression that a lot of people here over-rate Greinke
  8. I wonder if Greinke is thinking he deserves Matt Cain money Cain has put up ERA's of 2.89, 3.14, and 2.88 in the last 3 seasons and has a career 3.37 ERA with zero injury concerns Greinke has put up ERA's of 3.83, 4.17 & 2.16 in the last 3 seasons and has a career 3.80 ERA with some concerns about missing time earlier in his career due to mental issues Cain has a career WHIP of 1.196 while Greinke's is 1.252 *Small Sample Alert* Cain has a Post-Season ERA of 0.00 in 21 innings pitched with a 0.938 WHIP Greinke has a Post-Season ERA of 6.48 in 16 innings pitched with a 1.620 WHIP Cain has an ERA+ of 124 to Greinke's 115 (the higher the ERA+ the better) On what planet does Greinke compare to Cain? I like Greinke, alot, but he doesn't deserve Matt Cain money
  9. I wonder if Rickie will ever grow out of chasing the outside breaking ball. He's a very good player but he could be a .420 OBP guy if he learned to lay off of that pitch
  10. So Izturis has a great glove, no arm and no bat. Why again is he an MLB player? And even more importantly: why is he a Brewer?
  11. 3.80 career ERA. Other than his Cy Young year he has been a very good pitcher but not an elite pitcher
  12. Gamel is going to be a great player as long as RR leaves him alone and lets him develop. I see him as a .290 BA, 20-25 HR, .840 OPS guy year in and year out
  13. Very very good point and you are absolutely correct. A team really needs 2 aces to advance in the playoffs, at least usually
  14. Another way to look at it is this: if Greinke puts up a Cy Young caliber season this year, then we are (barring any major injuries) likely a 95 win team and Greinke will be an 8 WAR guy (wins above replacement). If we lost Greinke and replaced him with Marco Estrada (I have a feeling Melvin would go out and trade for or sign someone bertter, but just for the sake of example, replacing Greinke with Estrada) we are then an 85-88 win team....
  15. Braun likely isn't a 162 game player, as others have said. He's had little nagging injuries throughout his career. I don't mind seeing him sit occasionally on a day game following a night game.... It is kind of a strange almost Spring Training looking lineup though, but we've got Braun, Hart, Lucroy available to pinch hit. Wouldn't be surprised to see Izturis get the start tomorrow
  16. I'm not sure if everyone here understands the concept of WAR. Greinke is a very good pitcher but he is a career 3.80 ERA guy (wouldn't be surprised if he has a great year this year). Last year Greinke was a 1.7 WAR guy. Even in his Cy Young year he was 9 WAR guy. Losing Greinke does not take us from 90 wins to 77 wins or whatever. It would likely take us from 90 wins to 87 wins or so.... The difference between Greinke and Marco Estrada last season was about 1.3 Wins (Using Baseball Reference dot Com's WAR stats)
  17. People are complaining about defense but how bout those plays by Weeks & Hart today? Awesome!
  18. Baseball can teach one a lot of lessons about life: perseverance, teamwork, dedication, etc. After Ozzie Guillen was suspended for his comments about Fidel Castro, I was able today to explain to my 9 year old a little bit about who Castro is, what life is like in Cuba, and a little about how that effects the Latin-American culture in South Florida. Should I have explained all of that to him prior to today? Yeah probably... but it was an interesting conversation on the walk home from school!
  19. There is certainly a chance of that. A lot of people (and scouts) are high on Wily Peralta. While I personally have my doubts about the guy there is reason to believe that he could step in and be a 3.50 ERA pitcher .... by 2014 Jungmann and or Bradley and or Thornburg will be ready. It won't necessarily be all doom & gloom if Greinke leaves I still think Greinke will sign an extension with the Brewers
  20. I'd be in full support of that, but not during this season, I'd make that trade in the off-season. Not because of any specific play but because it would be a good use of team resources. And Schaeffer/Gindl will be more than ready by then. Aoki isn't an ideal platoon partner with Gomez because strangely he's better vs LHP than RHP. And Aoki's lack of an arm scares me in CF. Small sample but his arm looks to be Johnny Damon bad
  21. No, he's scooped a few others. One was on opening day. That play last night was indeed one he should have had. Its a learning process, I'm confident he'll get there
  22. 5 games seems a little excessive but hey I understand they really need to work the Public Relations in South Florida
  23. I would hope Axford isn't used today, kinda early to use him 3 days in a row. K-Rod for the Save tonight would be great Braun is hitting the ball very well. Ramirez is what he is, he's never gonna be Brooks Robinson or Mike Schmidt with the glove, but the guy gives deadly great at-bats with runners in scoring position. I was thrilled to see Gamel get a couple of hits, not only because I'm rooting for the guy, but also the more Gamel succeeds early on the less Roenicke will be inclined to sit him
