  1. I like Roenicke, a lot, and it is hard to argue with success. I think that overall he is a good to very good manager who seems to know how to properly motivate and manage a baseball team. A lot of managing a baseball team is knowing how to deal with the various personalities and from the outside looking in, Roenicke seems to excel at that.... That said, Kotsay starting in CF in a playoff game pretty much guarantees that I will never think of Roenicke as a "baseball genius". That is OK, we don't need our manager to be a baseball genius to be successful
  2. Phillips had a .596 OPS with a .281 OBP in AAA last year. I know he's just organizational filler but how is he more valuable to an organization than Mike Rivera?
  3. vs RHP Morgan Lucroy Braun Weeks Ramirez Hart Gamel Gonzalez Pitcher
  4. Dillard claims the last bullpen spot https://twitter.com/#!/Haudricourt/status/185777490671845377
  5. A 15% caught stealing percentage is certainly a "liability". If I was an opposing manager, I'd send everyone but the catchers and fatter pitchers running vs Kottaras. Skinny pitchers would get the green light. Normal base-stealers I'd set up a Little League style steal and send them 1st to 3rd.
  6. Cespedes is my prediction for AL Rookie of the year. This guy is a beast. His HR swing in yesterday's game was epic.
  7. My problem with Kottaras is that he is a liability defensively. We'd be better off having a different back-up catcher or using Kottaras as a lefty bat off the bench (3 catchers? maybe...) I do appreciate what Wolf brings to the table. Wolf is one of the better #4 pitchers in MLB
  8. Well then the Dodgers are my least favorite team now. I met Magic twice and both times he was very rude and mean-spirited. That ever present smile is completely fake
  9. I'd trade Tim Dillard for LaPorta
  10. According to that estimator, Ryan Braun has a Zero % chance to do it. Not to be a math nerd but 0% would apply to Craig Counsell. Braun should at least get some type of chance, even 0.077 % ....And hey Braun might start hitting 45 bombs a year in 2016 when he moves to 1B!
  11. Pujols' ability to DH the rest of his career (unlike Aaron & Bonds) may help
  12. I tend to think of Aaron's 755 as the record, but Bonds' 762 would apply to the question, too, they are just 7 apart
  13. Pujols has 445 HR's right now and he's about to play in his age 32 season. He hit 37 HR's last year in a "down year" (for him) and the least amount of HR's he's ever had in a season was 32 (in 2007). Hank Aaron had 755. Barry Bonds had 762. Every player hits a decline at some point in his career, so theres no telling when that'll happen for Pujols. He'd need to average 30 HR's over the next 10 seasons to get within range. If he averages 35 HR's over 6 seasons and includes a couple of 40 HR seasons, that'd put him around 735 HR's at the age of 40. I think it'll be tough for him to pull that off... what do you think? How does his new home ballpark play into this, too?
  14. If you look at WAR: Losing Fielder, adding Gamel Losing McGehee, adding Ramirez Losing Betancourt, adding Gonzalez Adding 1/2 season of K-Rod, adding 1/5 season of Greinke All of that equals the Brewers being at least as good as last year, if not better. I'm not predicting 96 wins but there is no reason to believe the Brewers will be significantly worse
  15. Taylor Green. .336 BA, .413 OBP, .997 OPS in AAA last season .... Between Green & Gamel, there really doesn't need to be a lengthy list when considering how perplexing 3B was last season. And many have questioned the use of $$$ for Aramis Ramirez. I think Aramis will be solid but agree, that $$$ might have been spent more wisely considering that Green appears ready
  16. Ryan The Riot would be a pretty significant upgrade over Izturis. His career .373 OBP vs LHP would be nice to have on the bench. Theriot has also hit .340 with a .406 OBP in his career in Miller Park. He's been dealing with an ankle injury this spring but reportedly is getting better...
  17. Maybe the Reds will be desperate now and give us Joey Votto for Axford Seriously though, that is a pretty significant injury for them.
  18. The more I see of Gindl the more optimistic I am of him being a very very special player for years to come. He's already a much better fielder than Hart or Braun, he hustles all out, he has great plate discipline (great OBP) and he's just 22 years old. One more year of AAA and he'll then be ready to be the Brewers every day RF for the years 2013-2019
  19. Hairston would be very valuable for us this season, but we don't know if $6 million over 2 years would have gotten him signed here. If we had offered $6 million, the Dodgers might have offered $6.5 million or 7 (i.e. the Dodgers might have been determined to get him)
  20. He hit a rocket to left that was caught in his last game...he's gonna be fine
  21. Jeremy Reed last year, too. I think Conrad will actually stick. As compared to some of those other guys, Conrad has some proven MLB effectiveness (in his case hitting vs LHP's) and has experience as a pinch-hitter. Plus the Brewers do need RHB's on the bench...
  22. Brooks Conrad helped himself today with an opposite field 2 run HR as a lefty off of Chad Billingsley. Yes, it is just a spring training game, and yes Billingsley hung a curveball, and yes the wind was blowing out, but anecdotal evidence shows that Roenicke pays some attention to spring training results, and he already looks for "veteran presence off the bench"
  23. Weeks is such a roll of the dice due to injury concerns that I don't think he'd bring as much in return as what we might hope for. I think Weeks would need to put together 2 straight injury free years before his trade value would go up.
  24. If Hart is the #4 hitting RF in MLB, Braun was last year's NL MVP, Weeks is a 2 time NL All-Star, Ramirez is one of the best hitting 3B, Morgan has a .370 OBP vs RHP, Lucroy is an up and coming C and Gamel has the potential he has, I don't see our lineup as just a "3". I think the Brewers deserve a "4" and the grade of "3" reflects how underrated Hart & Weeks really are....
  25. I really apologize! I was looking at his 2011 splits, not his career splits. Thanks for the correction... the point remains that he is much better vs LHP's than RHP's
