  1. After the Colorado series I literally laughed at myself for predicting 83-79. Now I'm thinking I coulda been right. Lot of Baseball left to be played though
  2. This is an excellent read that can help explain players like Sogard, Justin Turner and others who looked mediocre and then looked fantastic (or at least a lot better). Could Sogard return to previous statistical production? Sure, but I have a fairly unhealthy obsession with studying MLB hitting mechanics and am convinced that Sogard changed his swing https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/sports/mlb-launch-angles-story/?hpid=hp_no-name_graphic-story-a%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.c95a7adaacaa
  3. All we need is for Hunter Greene to punch a nun on live TV and he'll slide to #9 and we'll get our franchise pitcher in the June Draft. If only we coulda been worse last year. The irony of wishing Ken Macha was our 2016 manager and not Craig Counsell. Dammmit Craig! You did too good of a job. Astros plan deviated from. Woah Solv'd indeed
  4. I believe Sogard has made adjustments with his swing and will have continued success. No, he won't hit .400 but I think he'll hit .280--.300 with a .375 or so OBP over the next year or two. There are still lingering issues post knee surgery which will require him to not play every day. He is and will be a key piece of the puzzle as a multi-position player along with Perez and yes Villar who can play corner OF too.
  5. Sheets was the best. Would have had better stats if a) the Brewers had waited on bringing him up and b) Yost took him out of games earlier
  6. How quickly we forget! Bill Hall should be #1
  7. 1.3 - Hunter Greene I don't think there is any chance of Greene getting past pick #3, in this mock or in real life
  8. I think the Brewers will take Jordan Adell. The potential for Adell to be a bust is there, but the athleticism with that kid is just off the charts. He could certainly be at least a bullpen type closer if he doesn't make it as an Outfielder. He threw 96-97 a year ago. 6.19 Speed, 99 mph exit velocity off a tee, 6-3 200. Can't just find guys like that all the time
  9. Now that he is over 200 at-bats, it is no longer a small sample. He needs to start producing more. Moving him down in the batting order could help Considering that he isn't elite defensively, he really needs to hit in order to produce. I'm not at all convinced that he is better than Hernan Perez, for instance
  10. With the 1st Pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, Minnesota selects Brendan McKay
  11. Wouldn't it be better to root for them to take him at #46? Or #34. I just don't see him lasting till 34
  12. I'll be rooting for Rooker to be taken at 9 by the Brewers. I think he is this drafts version of Schwarber but his hit tool might be better than Schwarber
  13. And That & colbyjack - if you have a few minutes can you explain why Brent Rooker is not in the Top 50? Kid has an extremely quick bat and is putting up monster numbers. I will guarantee Rooker will be better than Kendall in pro ball. No doubt in my mind I'm watching Faedo pitch tonight. Looks...interesting. In some ways reminds me of Jungmann with the weird delivery and not tantalizing velocity. But he's got great movement on his secondary pitches. Not totally sold yet but as I said interesting
  14. "David if we had more pitching I think we could have swept the Blue Jays...." (Stearns thinking "good Lord have patience") "yes sir we are constantly evaluating options in terms of upgrading our pitching staff in ways that can foster an atmosphere of controllable talent assets over the course of an extended period of time." (Mark A thinking "is he agreeing with me? What exactly did he say?") "OK great. Keep up the good work."
  15. Just one of those games but this one got away from them quickly
  16. yep Braun was limping yesterday.... Gonna be a tough game with Stroman pitching!!! Go Brewers
  17. Going based on Fangraphs rankings for Pitchers WAR right now. What formula are you using? 2015 All-Star rosters? Sincerely asking. Doesn't matter what formula you plug in, FIP, ERA+, BABIP, the top pitchers are trending younger http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0
  18. We're in a different era now. Baseball is trending younger, including top flight pitching. 2006 might as well be 1976, it was a completely different era. Top 15 Pitchers now: Fulmer is 24, Strasburg is 28, Archer is 28, Duffy is 28, deGrom is 28, Keuchel is 29, Stroman is 26, Jose Fernandez would be 25. Half of them under 30, trending younger Top 16-30 Pitchers now: McCullers is 23, Leake is 29, Taijuan Walker is 24, Jesse Hahn is 27, Bundy is 24, Quintana is 28, Triggs is 28, Carlos Martinez is 25, Eduardo Rodriguez is 24, Severino is 23, Jerad Eickoff is 26. 11 of 15 players from Top 16-30 are under 30 10 of the Top 30 Pitchers are 26 or younger 17 of the Top 30 Pitchers are 28 or younger http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=12664&position=P
  19. Which is why he might argue against selling at the deadline especially after a hot start, and especially if that means trading Braun which cuts into not only ticket sales but merchandise sales
  20. I hope you are right! Sincerely I do. I can sum it up very simply: I don't trust Mark to just leave well enough alone.
  21. Human behavior is at least somewhat predictable based on past actions as well as comments. It is pretty clear that Mark A pushed Doug Melvin to be all in for as many years as they could and was at least early on a meddling type owner (Suppan signing?) and relatively impatient and prone to kneejerk reactions in both the media and elsewhere. Stearns is from the deeply analytical new school brought in to do a rebuild. Again it is just speculation, but it is reasonable to suggest that Stearns will be pressured to be buyers at the deadline in ways that might divert from his longterm plan, and it will be interesting to see what happens.
  22. If the young Brewers keep winning Mark A is gonna want to put the pedal to the metal and be buyers at the deadline, I really have to believe that. Stearns has to be feeling cautiously optimistic about how, so far, his rebuild is moving ahead of schedule. MLB is increasingly a young man's game, and with young players, you never know when things will click and they turn the corner. It is just a 1/4 of the way through the season but it seems clear that the Brewers have enough offense to at least contend for a wildcard I have to believe that Stearns' longterm plan for sustained success included trading Braun, Garza if he pitches like he has this season, maybe even Guerra, maybe another relief pitcher (Feliz was a wildcard) for even more prospects. That plan might be changing slightly or at least could be being altered somewhat day by day. And then I just have to speculate that Mark is putting pressure on or dropping major hints or asking pointed questions along the lines of "if we're still in it in July how do we improve our pitching and make a run at this?" It'd be fascinating to be a fly on the wall in the Brewers front office right now. I see a battle brewing. I don't see Mark A just being willing to give up all control. I think Stearns is too smart to divert majorly from his plan, but he is young and might not be able to resist. Thoughts?
  23. I'm not suggesting that I would like such a trade, I just think that is what it will take to get Quintana
