  1. Corey Ray was a late addition to the Futures Game, which surprised a little but showed he is still well regarded.
  2. A right hand hitting Wade Boggs. High BA, high OBP, doubles power. That is the ceiling.
  3. Pretty easy to second guess the 3B coach, but I agree with a few others that Sedar is at least average. The Brewers are having a tremendous season and the coaching staff is a part of that, obviously. I'm not about to put any of this coaching staff on blast. Seems to me they are doing a heckuva good job overall.
  4. What evidence did you see that Phillips was equal to or better of a prospect than Brinson Not a ton. I just don't see why Brinson is considered a better prospect. Phillips looks much more fluid and natural defensively and has a better arm. Neither lit the world on fire with their hitting in their brief time up but just on the eye test I thought Phillips looked more ready. Brinson looked completely overmatched and while, yes, Phillips strikes out too much he did seem to have more of an ability to barrel up a MLB fastball. I'm very concerned about Brinson's Home Road splits in AAA (.395/.265), I suppose Phillips' road splits aren't much better (.277) but they are better....
  5. I actually think Hiura will be a better overall hitter than Ryan Braun in terms of higher BA/OBP but less SLG. I think his trek through the minors will be similar to Braun: Braun was drafted in '05, spent '05 in Rookie Ball & A Ball. '06 was A+ and AA, '07 was AAA and a callup to MLB That'd put Hiura in A+ and AA in 2018, and getting called up to MLB in May or so of 2019. I think he is that good. Similar to Braun, he may not be an IF and could end up in LF. Who cares? The kid can rake
  6. Lucroy's dour grumpy me first personality wouldn't fit in the current Brewers clubhouse anyways. Unless of course he has a super awesome personality that the public never sees behind closed doors.
  7. I'm good with trading Brinson and/or Ray along with Hader and somebody for Quintana I think Phillips is the best of our outfield prospects anyways, and the only untouchable I see in the Brewers farm system, to me, is Keston Hiura. Obviously I'd rather not give up Hader, but you have to give to get, and I don't think it is a stretch to think that Quintana will outproduce Hader over the next 2.5 seasons. I'd prefer not to trade Woodruff
  8. In regards to Brinson. During their brief stays in MLB I saw zero evidence that Brinson should be considered better than Brett Phillips
  9. I would hope Braun is the DH most of the time in NYC. Considering how often he is injured and how much the Brewers benefit from him in the lineup, I'd keep him off the defensive side of the field as much as possible
  10. The knee-jerk DFA of the guy is a shocker to me. You may be right that there's trouble on the North Side. I'm starting to think that the whole team was 'roiding to beat the band last year. How can SO MANY players drop off all at the same time ? It is tough to repeat. Especially with young players. Lots of celebrating in November/December. Perhaps a little less focus & urgency in offseason workouts. We all knew that pitching staff was getting old(er). Replacing Chapman with W Davis/Uehara? That's a downgrade. Losing Dexter Fowler (or, perhaps better put: losing Dexter Fowler's production at the top of the order and in CF) was underestimated.
  11. After such a great start, Franklin never put it together....only made sense to DFA him. Good point. Not that I'm aware of.... now if we can just get the bullpen together, and if Braun can stay healthy the rest of the way (two big "if's"), this team just might continue being dangerous
  12. Thames is beginning to look like a slightly better version of Chris Carter. Not Tier One. After his hot start teams have adjusted to him and he's hit .221 in May and .188 in June
  13. Garza certainly wasn't a jerk when he signed an autograph for my kid and literally a hundred other kids prior to Brewers game a month or so ago.
  14. There is, quite seriously, a better chance of Craig Counsell coming out of retirement and playing SS for the Brewers than Ryan Cordell.
  15. This will improve once Phillips is an every day starter
  16. Brinson has not exactly looked ready for prime time yet. I presume the GM puts together the roster, the manager makes the lineup. This is Counsell saying "he needs more time in AAA"
  17. He plays for Hitters. He doesn't play for Waukesha West as they have a summer Baseball program. He has played for Chicago Scouts in Fall Ball in the past.
  18. Arcia should be an All-Star as long as he hits .250 if he hits .250 and continues his fielding prowess he's more valuable than Corey Seager, who really should be a 3B. I sincerely believe that, I don't care what "WAR" says. WAR should be adjusted to put more of a premium on defense in the vital defensive positions, but then stat nerds couldn't tie it up in a nice tidy bow in order to attempt to compare players across all positions and decades
  19. I have to laugh at the comments that Yuni B hit well in the postseason. That is exactly the problem, or it was Melvin's problem, his lack of perspective on defensive value. It is one thing to rebuild, it is another thing to finish the build to compete in the postseason. The game passed Melvin by. It was sad to watch unfold and many of us commented on it as it was happening. It was obvious. Yuni B had the range of a fire hydrant. OK, OK, he had the range of a 55 year old slow pitch softball player.
  20. Kumar Rocker threw 98 at the PG National in the last few days. Provided he stays healthy I would think he'd have a shot at a Top 5 spot. I've heard again & again that this is one of the strongest draft classes in a long long time
  21. Since we're playing Fantasy Baseball can I take T Plush & Geoff Jenkins in the midst of a hot streak?
  22. Pitching an inning without giving up a run on a consistent basis is the exact definition of elite.
  23. I can't help but associate Melvin with Yuni B Everytime I see Arcia make a play a shudder and think "what if" in remembering that 2011 postseason run and how horrible our defense was at Shortstop. So close but we got Melvined. That said, yes, his last few moves in the rebuild were good
  24. well done. Was hoping to see Brinson starting again but this is a good lineup
  25. Just a few games in but so far Brett Phillips looked more "MLB ready" than Brinson. Hopefully Brinson gets it going tonight
