  1. It was so much more than that. It was a complete break down in fundamentals. A 2B doesn't try to catch the ball on the move like that. You get to the bag and make the the turn. It was an epic failure on the level of Yuni B, or worse. Possibly worse because Yuni B was relatively fundamentally sound, he just had the range of a Grandpa. If Stearns & Counsell are aware that Villar is that fundamentally flawed at 2B then they are just buying time, hoping he figures it out. I get that.
  2. That makes perfect sense. From the standpoint of a fan though, I want them to win. I wanted the win today. I get it though.
  3. As LaRussa put it when Molina was a rookie, the guy could hit .000 and still be an incredibly valuable player. He's a coach on the field, he is an absolutely amazing ballplayer. I have Molina as easily a Top 10 Catcher of All Time, and he is arguably a Top 3. All the intangibles he brings to the table, the pitch framing, the way he calls a game, the stolen base prevention, the way he handles a pitching staff, the way he helps set the defense, plus the hitting makes WAR as a viable stat laughable (which is ironic because I am one of the biggest Mike Trout fans on the planet and I use WAR to help back up my arguments as to how great Trout is) I think it was a smart extension, it is a unique situation which shouldn't be looked at in a vacuum though. I remain convinced the Brewers are doing the right thing with their rebuild and was thrilled with the haul they got for Lucroy (who I think is moderately over rated) although I liked the Cleveland haul better (Francisco Mejia)
  4. Hate to say it but Scooter would have helped today
  5. Villar was just unbelievably horrible today. I coach 14 year olds with better fundamentals. Yes of course, he'll get a long leash in a rebuilding year but man oh man was that terrible.
  6. Players like Dubon, Diaz, Cordell & Phillips are legit prospects, I don't see them as AAAA types at all. They need more MiLB reps though. Don't want to rush them. Erceg even more so. Brinson might be ready sooner. Point being that yes we lack high caliber depth at the MLB level but in a rebuilding year that isn't a huge concern
  7. In Jesus I trust It is a rebuilding season. Until it is not. Hernan Perez is depth at 1B
  8. Scooter is an easy player to root for. He's one of those guys who has maximized his God given gifts, and he's a class act. Signs for kids before games, puts in extra work, seems to love the game. I understand why he is gone, but as a fan I'll miss him. And I bet he has a great season with the Reds.
  9. Too early to make that assumption. I like Diaz as a prospect but he still has a ways to go. Even if Diaz does continue to perform, its possible that Arcia gets the boot IF he doesn't start to hit AND Villar continues to perform. Possibly. Arcia's glove is so good that he'll get a long leash unless Dubon pushes the issue (which he might) or the rebuild ends early
  10. Villar is likely just a placeholder until Isan Diaz comes up and rakes, anyways. Diaz looks like the real deal.
  11. I would not be opposed to trading Broxton, but I'd want to be blown away by an offer for him. He is entering his age 26 season, so he isn't as young as other top prospects, but he's under team control until 2023. There is a lot of value there. Long term durability is a legit concern http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/brewers-keon-broxton-leaves-game-with-wrist-discomfort/ Keon seems like an insurance policy if Brinson, Phillips, Ray don't turn out. I personally think he is better than Phillips, but we shall see.
  12. 24-1 now, Top of the 7th. Nate Orf with the RBI single in the 6th (!)
  13. 23-1 now in the Bottom of the 5th Arcia, Broxton, Kirk N, & Shaw have all homered. Wow
  14. Brewers Record: 83-79 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Braun Brewers CY Young: Junior Guerra Brewers ROY: Hader First player traded: Garza Surprise player: Arcia Disappointing player: Nobody World Series: Indians over Cubs
  15. All Nieuwenhuis needs to do if step in the box at Miller Park and he'll start hitting like Jack Clark again. Too bad we can't have a Home-Away platoon in his spot (!)
  16. Never mind, he's hitting .308/.400/.462 now in Spring Training, all is good On a serious note, I hope that many of you are right. Arcia living up to the Top Prospect projections would be huge for the Crew
  17. The point was, as already stated, they asked him to make the change in season. Maddon's players learn positions in Spring Training, get trained and developed and are ready to go on Opening Day. Huge difference. If you think someone can go from being a college outfielder to eleven years later learning MLB on the fly, without a day of playing OF in between, you are severely underestimating the difficulty of playing MLB OF.
  18. I don't know about expectations, but my "hope" was that he could be a .270/.330 hitter with 30 Doubles, 30 to maybe even 40 SB guy with a ceiling of a few years hitting .307/.347 like he did in AA, along with Gold Glove defense. i.e. living up to the "Top Prospect" status If he is Alcides Escobar 2.0 that certainly isn't a bust I will remain hopeful
  19. I like the Broxton Villar Santana batting order slot Braun in hitting 3rd and the Crew might actually be pretty good offensively this year
  20. I know it is just a week or so into Spring Training, and I know that he is just 22 years old, but does anyone think that Arcia can really hit MLB pitching? I am not the world's foremost authority on hitting (duh) and Darnell Coles has forgotten more about Baseball than I will ever know, but I have coached at the high school level and played the game (I know, who cares). I see nothing about Arcia's hitting mechanics, his approach at the plate, his stance, anything honestly other than pure athletic ability & hand/eye coordination that looks like a guy who could hit over .230 in MLB. Meanwhile he doesn't walk that much so that .230 could be a .290 OBP Based on his fielding ability we do know that he has truly elite level hand/eye coordination, but can that alone translate into a passable MLB hitter? He looks like a guy who should have spent the winter overhauling his entire approach at the plate, his stance, his swing, everything and...just...didn't
  21. I'd go for it, with a modified version of #1. I'd be a buyer at the deadline but would not sacrifice every great prospect we have for one year rentals. At the same time the depth in the Brewers system allows you to give up some players to push into the playoffs.
  22. Just a small sample of watching him but I really like what I've seen of Brinson. He has a good approach at the plate. I think he can put up a couple of 35 HR seasons in his prime years if he stays healthy.
  23. Brinson had a great catch in yesterday's game on a line drive in the gap. I see Brinson's ceiling comp as being Mike Cameron, not Broxton. 25-30 HR, 100 RBI, excellent defense, 20 SB's type of guy
  24. Never He's going to be great. Although my guess is, it'll be Mike Cameron great, not Mike Trout great. But I'll take that
