  1. Missaki is just 19 and has put together 2 seasons of very low WHIP & high K/9 numbers Very happy to have these young pitchers in our organization.
  2. 3 young talented pitching prospects for 1 season of a good MLB 1B who is often injured and needs to be platooned?! This was a great trade Very very good to continue rebuilding the farm with young pitching.
  3. Lots of speculation that Lind to Seattle is imminent. There aren't a ton of great prospects in the Mariners' organization so it'll be interesting to see what the Brewers might get back D.J. Peterson is a possibility, but he hasn't been able to hit AA Ball yet
  4. The more I let the reality of this trade sink in, the more I think it could end up ranked as one of the most lopsided deals in MLB history
  5. Kepler is an intriguing prospect, but do the Twins need a 1B with Mauer playing there?
  6. That is a huge haul for Atlanta, for 3 years of Miller. Crazy good value in that trade for the Braves. Dansby Swanson, in particular, has superstar potential
  7. Plus side: tremendous veteran leadership on a young team. Has played for Maddon before. Versatility plays into Maddon's style of managing in the NL. High OBP and a solid 2B as Addison Russell moves to SS Negative Side: hard to imagine a 35 year old middle infielder holding up physically for the life of the 4 year contract
  8. If you look at positional scarcity, the market for Lucroy could potentially be huge. There are many contending teams that would really upgrade their catcher position with Lucroy on board. I could see Stearns getting a trade offer on Lucroy that is too good to pass up. Would love to see Swihart plus other prospects from Boston, for instance
  9. Chris Davis free agent market is somewhat slowing down the Lind trade talks. For some teams, Davis might be their first choice with Lind as a fallback option if they don't get Davis.
  10. Awesome post, "Swing and a Drive", I hope you'll post here more often. I agree that Starting Pitchers tend to be the most highly valued of all baseball players. However, I don't know if Bundy still can be looked at as a potential ace. His ceiling hasn't changed, but the risk level in terms of durability has. I believe there are other pitchers in the Orioles system that the Brewers prize more highly. Sounds like there have been talks between the 2 teams re Lind. Lind for Orioles pitching depth makes sense, it is a matter of sorting out who exactly the return would be from the O's.
  11. I'm thinking Stearns isn't seeing Santana as his type of player. With all his strikeouts he wore out his welcome in Houston. Santana is a Melvin type player, not (likely) a Stearns player. And at any rate he really isn't a CF anyways
  12. You missed my point. Ozuna as part of the return plus prospects for Lucroy
  13. Pure speculation on my part but with Stearns' mention of looking for a short-term CF, I could see Marcell Ozuna being a player the Brewers trade for. He's entering his age 25 season, won't be a free agent until 2020 and is a talented ballplayer. Both Lucroy & Lind fit a position of need in Miami
  14. Purely a guess but opening up 40 man roster spots means the Brewers, as sellers, are looking to trade more than 1 player. Lind is obvious, trading him for 2 players. But since the Brewers now have 5 40 man spots available it is likely that Braun or Lucroy or somebody else will be traded. Lucroy for 3 players, Lind for 2 players, that kind of thing
  15. It is hard to imagine, since they only have 2 more years of Lucroy, right? And 2017 will be his age 31 season, which is getting up there in age for a Catcher It seems like a complete no-brainer to trade him this offseason while his value is still high.
  16. That is exactly true. You can find quotes from Aaron & Mays saying that they were on "greenies" for most of their career. They don't talk about it quite as much lately. The word "Greenie" sounds so innocent, like they were taking caffeine pills. The fact is they played most of their careers on amphetamines, trucker speed, whatever you want to call it
  17. If you go to any MLB fantasy camps or get a chance to talk to any former MLB players when they feel comfortable speaking "off the record" they will tell you that most of MLB was on PED's as far back as the early 80's I remember plenty of high school players on PED's in the early 80's. To think that pro athletes weren't doing them back then is, I think, fairly naive.
  18. Adam McCalvey this morning on the MLB Network speculated that the Brewers are listening to offers on Lucroy but it would take a substantial return for them to trade him, because of his production at a premium position, favorable contract, and veteran leadership with a young pitching staff. I think it comes down to 2 factors: 1) Are the Brewers truly "all-in" on a rebuild? and 2) Do the Brewers think they can contend again within the window of Lucroy's contract?
  19. Stan Musial. Ted Williams. Randy Johnson. Mariano Rivera. Hank Aaron hit 40 HR's w/ a .402 OBP at age 39. However, yes, your point is well made, in general. There have been exceptions
  20. Miguel Montero will be a Free Agent in 2018 Jake Arrieta will be a Free Agent in 2018 Anthony Rizzo will be a Free Agent in 2020 Kris Bryant will be a Free Agent in 2022 Jorge Soler will be a Free Agent in 2021 Addison Russell will be a Free Agent in 2021 Kyle Schwarber will be a Free Agent in 2022 They are definitely stacked with talent for awhile. Still need lots of pitching
  21. I'll be very curious to see if Stearns sees Santana as a longterm option or even values him as a prospect that highly. Rumors were that the Astros were happy to get rid of him and Stearns comes out of that Astros front office think tank. Santana strikes out a heckuva lot and is more of a "3TO" type offensive player, which doesn't fit into the trend of MLB Sabermetrics these days (high contact hitters are being prized more), or how the Astros have been building their team. (See the Astros non-tendering Chris Carter as further evidence of that type of mindset). The Brewers already have enough of those 3TO guys (Khris Davis) and Stearns' trade for Villar seems to fit more into the Royals/Astros viewpoint of strong defense high contact versatile players. Santana really doesn't project as a CF either
  22. Just a guess but they are looking at a 5 Year window, that's what they have guaranteed with Schwarber, Bryant etc, correct? Probably felt like the advantages of Price or Greinke in the 1st 2 years of a big contract are outweighed by the risking of paying that much to an aging pitcher in Years 3, 4, & 5 of that window They need to do something with their pitching staff, though, beyond Lackey. No team can just bash their way to a World Series
  23. Agreed. I expected them to break the bank for Price or Greinke or, honestly, both.
  24. I don't have a problem with the size of the contracts. I'd rather have more of the money in the player's hands & manager's hands than the owners keeping almost everything. It does make me stop and say "wow" though.
