  1. I'd stick with Rickie too, on an every day basis. I wasn't referring otherwise. But a day off isn't going to hurt the guy. Gotta try something to kick start him.
  2. Again, as a manager, I don't care about PAST or FUTURE predictions. I would like to think that RR is looking at current production and realizing he isn't producing. I just don't understand the mentality of RR and NOT giving him a day off. I understand the type of player that Rickie is and has been. I know what he is capable of. But at this point in time, he is not producing. So how does it hurt him or the team to give someone else a shot at not producing? It's just one game right?
  3. My point was supposed to be, if anyone else was struggling like he was, they would be given a day off. When A-Ram's average was dropping, at least he was putting the ball in play and getting robbed. I don't recall being able to make that comment on any of Rickie's recent balls he has put in play. I have been advocating for Weeks to get a day off. I am just saying, if you aren't going to give him a day off, then move him in the order so we can find some production at the top of the order for Ryan and Ramirez to drive in.
  4. (Ultimately, I think most folks are fine with him having a day off, although I'm skeptical of whether it would actually do any better than just letting him try to play through his slump.) At this point, any production is better than no production. If this was Gamel (pre-injury) battling like this, Ishikawa would be spot starting or someone else sure would be. Take away the name (Weeks). Pretend you were the manager. If you had a starter hitting .170 on the year and second in the Majors in strikeouts, and you had a competent backup on the bench, wouldn't you sit that guy for a game to clear his head, let him take a day off from everything, and perhaps kick start his offensive game? At what point do you start to worry about Weeks? Do you seriously want a guy pressing and getting nothing out of it, batting .170 and hittin gin the #1 or #2 slot in your order? My idea. Move Hart up to #2 and drop Weeks down to #5. Give it a week and see how it goes. It really couldn't hurt. Neither guy is really hitting the ball well right now. I see Corey swinging and missing a lot. Why not get some runners on in front of the guys who are actually hitting right now? If you are going to be this stubborn, as a manager, and let a guy work out of this prolonged slump with no off days, then why not switch up the lineup. And Lucroy needs to stay right where he is at.
  5. How about the leadoff double by Ramirez and Corey rolling over an outside pitch to 3rd, to start the bottom of the 2nd? Lucroy singles in next at bat (which would have scored A-Ram) and then Green hits into a double play. But I still disagree on ambushing on the first pitch. Especially with bases loaded. All the pressure is on the pitcher to make perfect pitches. He just came out of the pen and walked the first guy.
  6. Wow. Ishikawa comes in to pinch hit, after a 5 pitch walk, and swings at the first pitch. I never understand it. All the pressure is on the pitcher and you bail him out on the first stinking pitch. Unbelievable. What a frustrating loss.
  7. Bad example of his struggles, but in his first at bat today, he saw 5 pitches and never took the bat off his shoulder. Strike 3 was literally, right down the middle. I just don't think it would be that bad of an idea to give him 1 day off. I hope he gets some hits today. I do. I just think one of those "don't even put your spikes on" days is necessary.
  8. Hard to think his new level is going to be a .219 BABIP, even the slowest of catchers sits higher than that. I guess when I look at a guy, I don't look at what he HAS done in his career. I look at what he is doing NOW. As a manager I don't think I can sit there and play the "well he got on at ____ pace in 2011" card when the guy is hitting below .175 and striking out at a horrible pace. I think that deserves a day off, especially when that person is sitting in the #2 spot in the order, right in front of our best hitter. Teams aren't afraid of Rickie right now. They are going right at him. There is no reason God's green earth that I would throw anything other than offspeed/breaking balls away to Rickie and Corey right now. Neither of them are making contact on those balls. I am just saying, why not give him an off day today, especially against Cueto. Let a leftie give a hack at. Worse case scenario is that Green goes 0-4, just like Rickie does. But maybe Taylor puts the ball in play all 4 times.
  9. I watched intently again last night to re-verify my point on him lunging. He is so off-balance at the plate that he is almost falling down on every outside pitch. The only other guy that does that is Morgan, but he looks to push the ball the other way. Everyone else stays balanced in the box. I really think that Narron has to see this. They have to address this. I can't remember Rickie ever doing it this much in his career. And for the previous person stating that we are better off right now with Rickie out there, I have to disagree. I think he NEEDS a day off. Today would be a nice day for one. Let Green start. Give Rickie today an tomorrow off. He was 0-4 again last night with 2 more k's. Yes he did walk. But he is not making productive outs. Honestly, how can it not help him to give him a day off? Green takes a nice approach at the plate. One game is not going to kill Rickie. I realize he is the overall better option, but right now he is not producing. He has made 94 outs this year. 37 of them are k's. He's hitting .168 on the year. A day off is needed.
  10. Even better yet. Imagine the laughter if the Brewers actually made a trade to KC for Yuni, for a second time in two years. I wonder if that has EVER happened before. One player being traded to the same team two years in a row.
  11. Oh that's awful. It's like the clone machine got turned on but spelled the names all wrong. There has to be something better out there. I wouldn't mind poor offense if the defense was stellar. But you can't provide average D and no offense.
  12. My apologies (again). I saw the move as a need filler on the MLB side, seeing how he has major league experience. That is how I interpreted the signing. And I agree on Josh Wilson comment. Josh had to have had better numbers than Manzella. Plus Manzella is 29 I believe and picked up and dropped by a couple of teams.

  14. He was the Astros opening day shortstop in 2010. I would assume that once he gets back into the groove, he will be brought up and then Gonzalez' 60-day DL would open a spot on the 40-man. I am assuming that is correct.

  16. I don't think too many people want him replaced. More people want him to take a couple of mental days off. Why not? It's not like he is doing anything out there anyway that couldn't be done by Green or Conrad. A "mental day" will help refresh him a bit. I want the Rickie that was hot before the injury, just like everyone else does. But right now he is doing nothing at the top of this order. He needs a day off. Let's try to start some kind of winning streak and get some production. Everyone needs a day off once in a while.
  17. But Yuni had some pop in his bat. Izturis can throw the ball farther than he can hit it. Just sayin'.
  18. Anyone else notice how unbalanced he is in the box though? When he swings he is falling all over the place. Anything off speed and he is basically falling down. I am not a hitting instructor, but they have to see how unbalanced he is up there. I agree on the bat waggle and timing. I think he is too active with his hands and that is causing problems. I only know of two people in the history of the game that did it (perhaps there is more) and amazingly they both started their careers in Milwaukee. Sheffield even slowed it down a little bit. But something has to change with Rickie. I like the kid because he gives you 110% every time out there, but he is hitting like .177 right now and is second in the majors to Adam Dunn in strikeouts. Those aren't productive outs. I am not saying replace him. But my lord, give the guy an off day on Wednesday or today or something to see if that helps. There is only one guy in this lineup that is doing anything right now on a semi-consistent basis and that is Braun (has the Brewers last 5 homeruns). Give Rickie a day off.
  19. I am not giving up on the season. Simply stating that we aren't going to make it through the year with a SS platoon of below average offensive talent and average defensive talent. With Yuni, when he made contact, he at least had some pop potential. Of course he had limited range. I also don't think we'd be bailing the Twins out. You could easily make them eat the chunk of payroll. Face it, no matter when we decide to make a SS transaction, it is going to cost the organization a prospect or cash, neither of which will be cheap. Average to Good SS's aren't cheap anywhere. It is just too bad we don't have something internal.
  20. Will be interesting to see how RR lines them up today. Bronson gave up like 46 homers last year. I can't stand the guys delivery, but somehow he can be effective. Would love to see Taylor get another shot. Maybe give him a shot at second tonight and give Weeks one of those wonderful off days to help him figure things out. This team needs a series win in a bad way. Not to stop a losing streak, but to get some good karma back in the clubhouse.
  21. This was the one position this team couldn't afford an injury at. We have zero organizational depth at this position right now, in my mind. And as far as what is out there, every team has the advantage when dealing with us because they know we need a SS. Sad day. The Twins just called up Dozier. So maybe we have a shot at Jamey Carroll. At least he has a glove. His offense is anorexic, but anything has to be better than Izturis right now.
  22. Whatever happened to the old adage of: This guy is our third baseman. This guy is our first baseman. This guy is our right fielder. When the heck did we become a platoon organization? Why can't we just make a decision, i.e. Corey Hart is our first baseman and move on from there? Why do we have to play 3 positions at a platoon? How does that help this team become more consistent? It doesn't.
  23. Will be interesting to hear Doug's talk on this topic. Zach did have a ton of promise but the last two years have just been filled with so much non-baseball problems that one can understand the split. Best of luck to him going forward. I hope he can get his problems corrected and get back into baseball.
  24. If Conrad is simply a bench option then so be it. Izturis can't get the ball out of the infield whereas Conrad has some pop, and can hit a lot better from both sides of the plate. If we only had a backup option at SS, then Izturis could be DFA or released. Ishikawa is fine as a backup, but the Brewers need to make a decision quick here and commit to it (as in move Corey to 1st or transition Ramirez there if you have to). I am glad to see Conrad get a shot since he was playing quite well as of late in the minors. Perhaps RR will give Weeks a much needed night off.
  25. The Gamel injury is unfortunate, and sadly, probably nullifies his chances for next year. The Brewers will be forced now to make a season long decision at 1st. It can't be a constant platoon there. It is not good for defensive purposes and the position is a power position. Ishikawa is a good defender, but there is a reason why no one else wanted him as an every day first baseman. He provides average offensive production at best. Corey CAN play first base and likes playing first. For the comment on lazy, I think his long strides make him look lazy. But he definitely is an average to slightly below average defensive right fielder. He doesn't have a plus arm. He gets horrible jumps on the ball and takes terrible angles. You can utilize his 6'6" frame at 1st. He has the power for the position and he isn't going to be any worse than Gamel at 1st defensively. He used to play the position. The only problem right now, is that Ron never threw him out there for a game prior to the injury just to see what he had. We have a log jam in the outfield right now. Conrad isn't being called up to be our first base backup. Conrad should be called up to give Weeks a couple days off because Izturis shouldn't be on the roster. Heck, I would even be for starting to have Ramirez make the transition to 1st before making Ishikawa our every day first baseman. At some time this organization is going to have to stop settling for "well we have a platoon" at multiple positions.
