    It actually makes me wonder how he fell to the Dodgers in the first place? Presumably, 28 or so teams had a shot to pick him up before the Dodgers? I dunno if he's an upgrade over Monasterio. Certainly, he's better with the stick, at least this season. But while he's no world-beater, Monasterio may be better in every other respect. Considering the Brewers prefer their catchers as righty-pinch hitters, the Brewers may prefer Monasterio as the pinch-runner/defensive sub.

    Not the "Young Brewers Appreciation Thread," and I've mentioned it before, but egads! What a young roster! Chourio may be the rightful star, but the other guys being a mix of serviceable starting players, and young players with some first-division-regular upside is pretty awesome. It really makes free agency easier, when you are looking for pieces instead of studs (not that studs wouldn't be great, too).

    Yeah, I stopped looking after MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, so I stand corrected about his national juice.

    This is a fascinating matchup. The Westcoast version of the Evil Empire improves by adding a former stinking Cardinal, versus the plucky underdogs riding their pluckiest of underdogs. Should be a good test for Myers with his living in the zone against this patient Dodgers squad. I hope he throws the first fastball over Ohtani's head, just to put some doubt into their minds if he will pound the zone with fastballs early in the count.

    Perez was hyped by us here, and within the context of the team's prospects, but I don't believe he ever hit an overall Top 100 list. I actually think that Perez, the prospect, is a great contrast to better contextualize Made, the prospect. Similarities? Venezuelan, signed for just under $1M. Made a switch-hitter, Perez a lefty. Both with precocious power for their age. Both with similar slash lines in DSL Differences? Perez had a famous baseball-playing father. Perez a corner outfielder only, Made a shortstop most likely destined for 3B. DSL line for Perez: .333/.394/.575 148 wRC+ 6% BB-rate, 26% K-rate DSL line for Made .337/.461/.548 170 wRC+ 18% BB-rate, 14% K-rate Now these are BOTH young guys that can flame out at any time. But as prospects, you can see what really sets them apart in terms of ceilings/helium. And this doesn't take into account for any of the advanced stats. As PROSPECTS, Made is definitely closer to Chourio at this stage than Perez.

    It's nice to see that Ashby still has it in him. Hopefully he can string a few more of these types of 2-inning, zero runs, good K/BB rate outings... depending on what the stuff looks like (and it sounds like it looked really good last night, including velo), maybe he's even a BP option for the stretch run. His recovery is probably what Woody's recovery will look like as well. Lots of struggle before any hope of getting back to speed. I presume Woodward, (not to be confused with Woodruff), would be a decent option for AFL? edit for spelling and clarity

    I've mused about this before, but I think the Brewers now have a reputation for having a secret sauce, and evaluators are curious about what diamond they will unearth next.

    I also don't feel strongly about this, but it's possible they simply preferred a lefty bat vs. the righty bat.

    I always wonder if when the trade deadline and promotion timeline casually tick along, with no change for these guys they start to sag a little bit. As a young adult, when you are working so hard to achieve a dream, and you are anticipating taking steps toward that dream, only to get "stuck," well, that can be a difficult psychological hurdle. It's probably really good for their development, though. Every single former big leaguer talks about how young players need to go through these mental challenges in their journey.

    I love me some Yoho as much as the next guy, but I wonder if the injury history is what gives the Brewers pause. Let's say they add him to the 40, and DFA a guy that has been decent (e.g. - Zastryzny, Jay), then Yoho gets injured right away... If that happens next April, no big whoop. But if that happens in September, then you lose two options for the Bullpen instead of just one. Then again, if the Brewers think Yoho is so good that he's in the mix for setup-man innings, then I think they have to bring him up. OR, if they think he's a multi-inning guy, he should be planned on as a pseudo-piggy-back option with one of our lesser starters. Yeah, you can disregard everything I've written, I think they should call Yoho up right away.

    I agree that MLB Pipeline does a nice job with the whole exercise (even though I maintain their grades are often about a click and a half optimistic), and it's really easy to access for quick info on guys. With that said, if there were a redraft today. There is no way Braylon Payne would get drafted ahead of the younger Made. Based on the information available, with the DSL season, Made would have been given a larger bonus than Payne. I like where they put Made, at #17, since stateside, or even perhaps, Carolina, is where prospects can really begin to standout. But doesn't Payne HAVE to be ranked below Made?

    Turang and Ortiz are both great middle infielders. I don't have strong feelings about who plays where. To my eye, they are "equal," but they're also great in different ways. Turang is athletic and is fun watching going to his right. To my eye, he may have the stronger arm. But Ortiz's hands and movements are so graceful, smooth and quick. They're different, but both great, and fun to watch.

    This is why I don't care about the Brewers minor league system plummeting to average according to websites. If we were ranking top organizations for talent under 26, the Brewers would be sitting pretty. Yeah, I agree with how Murphy has often handled this. leadoff against righties, bat ninth versus lefties. Turang has a lot of two-hit games in him. 100% Even though I've had AppleTV+ since the MLS chose them last year, I've hated the decision, and everything else about it.

    Not sure if you were highlighting the tight races in the AL East, or the AL Central, but in both scenarios your examples include 2nd place teams that are really, really good. Other than the Brewers, which team in the NL Central is really really good? Unless you, (and others), continue to insist that the Brewers aren't really really good.

    Of course anytime one predicts future baseball outcomes, there are inherent risks, but I honestly think that we are seeing the present, and future, Jackson Chourio now. I just don't know how pitchers are going to attack him, for him to slump significantly. He can pull his hands in, he can drive the ball opposite field, he can spit on pitches outside the zone, He has speed to beat out infield hits, he has demonstrated the ability to recognize pitches. He can hit fastballs and offspeed. He hits with incredible power. Like, how will pitchers attack him? How do you get him out on a consistent basis? At the risk of jinxing it, and at the risk of sounding stupid later, I don't see anything except off-field issues from derailing his destiny as an annual MVP candidate.

    I don't disagree. I think their rankings are mostly pretty genuine, and I don't really care very much about prospect rankings. The Brewers have a great system, and deciding to rank prospects, rather than tier them, makes the "rankers" prejudiced. They are always going to rank a few guys from each system in the Top 100, unless they're trying to make a point about how bad the system is. I was commenting on their overall strategy of covering teams, not specifically prospects.

    Turbo with some great stuff today, although I respectfully disagree with some of your takes. Firstly, I agree that Peralta is now a JAG. But, if Hoskins finishes strong (as his recent hitting streak may suggest), I'm not sure he doesn't opt-out. I want him back even at that price. Secondly, I'm not so sure the Brewers are going to be investing in any starters -- either in prospect-capital or budget-capital. They're on a 92-win pace with this ridiculous rotation this season. Why not keep that going? I don't disagree that guys like Woodruff, Misiorowski, Gasser, Ashby and/or the minors guys can't be relied upon for squat. But the sheer depth available tells me [them?] that they can pull out another division title and another Tobias Myers. That [they] believe that at least one or two of those options hits. I totally agree with your Adames opinion. One, he'll outprice the Brewers, and two, the contract will age quickly and poorly. I predict that the Brewers are going to treat this off-season like the 2024 season was gravy, and that they'll lean into the youth movement.

    The reason ESPN plays the big-market game in baseball is because baseball fans only pay attention to their favorite team, unlike the NFL, or NBA, where fans from New York will often tune into Bucks or Packers games. There's zero financial gain to be had from highlighting the exploits of the smaller markets in baseball.
