  1. If anyone should get a HOF "bump" for personality and being (effectively) a one-team guy, it's Votto. He must have as close to universal appeal of any superstar. I'm sure he'll get docked for the high-bar for HOF first baseman, but will anyone care if he got in? One MVP. His career wOBA of .394 would place him in this season's top-ten. Obviously, his career totals aren't awesome.
  2. It doesn't bother me, per se, but SHIFT+ENTER allows you to single-space your entries so you can make such lists... RHP Williams Peguero Etc. LHP Hudson Koenig Etc.
  3. Far be it for me to question the validity of Spencer's reports, but I have a hard time believing a 19-year-old lefty is throwing 95+ with that easy delivery in that non-tall frame. If that's accurate?? Whoa. In other news, Dinges is my new favorite to outplay expectations. I think that the Brewers found a less-heralded, less-scouted gem --- especially if they can teach him to catch.
  4. Someone should post this in tonight's IGT.
  5. Me too... except for when the app crashes, or my phone glitches, or when some other kind of exception takes place where one requires assistance. It's like telephone customer service. We would all prefer to not have to wait for the live person, and simply punch the right combination of numbers to get what we need, but seriously, it's been what? 40 years of telephone customer service, and we all end up waiting for the live person because the options simply don't cover what we need about half the time.
  6. Throw strikes that don't go out of the yard, and let the kids run after them.
  7. I love guys who derive their value from driving the baseball rather than working the count. Walks are overrated. No one dreams about winning the game with a bases loaded walk.
  8. Don't leave out Ashby.
  9. I am generally bothered by the ubiquity of QR code phenomenon. I'm no luddite, but in my experiences, the whole thing ends up being more clunky than it's worth.
  10. After last night, I'm sure some of us are thinking about Montas getting a start. Before the Civale/Montas acquisitions, and the Tobias ROY chase, I'm sure most of us were thinking Freddy, maybe Rea, and then a whole lotta bullpenning. I'm feeling MUCH better. Even if ALL of those guys are only good through 3 or 4 in the playoffs, if they add Misiorowski and Yoho, who are both profiling as "shutdown multiple innings" guys, you've got enough innings to get to the backend without having to pitch Megill and Devin before their designated slots.
  11. I predict the Brewers will be "respected" in the same way as the Rays and Guardians come this time next year.
  12. This is an excellent point. I hadn't considered this. In addition, it is probably one of the reasons that they have high floors. I've also been wondering lately if the Brewers don't mind older rookies at all, since the team control extends beyond their peak years.
  13. Thanks to everyone that keeps these threads going! So fun!
  14. Based on rankings you are absolutely correct. Based on scarcity, however, I'm not sure. There are very few sure-fire, GOOD shortstops that will hit enough to be worth much more than a utility infielder. Left-handers with D.L. Hall's stuff are also premium prospects. Sluggers that rely on taking walks in deep counts that are destined to a corner and offer little other value? Those guys are easier to find on the free agent marketplace, or even in AAA, and they basically HAVE to mash for them to live up to their prospect ranking. Certainly, Mayo has had a great minor league career, and if he were to replicate those numbers in MLB there is zero doubt that he would be worth more than Ortiz and Hall. I just don't find that very likely. I suspect that he will struggle in MLB, ending up being a have bat, will travel guy in the mold of Hunter Renfroe, or Gary Sanchez. But I realize I'm probably in the minority. I'm not trying to change your mind.
  15. I think that the national baseball community --- just like many of our very own posters --- do not, even now, believe that the Brewers are actually good. I mean, I'll admit it. Imagining this team challenging for the best record in baseball?? Really??
  16. Not to derail the thread, but what is the motivation in the first place with expanded rosters? Why do they expand at all?
  17. Payne is getting plenty of reps in Arizona playing in unofficial games. Sure, but I've wondered about this as well. Not specifically with Payne, but with any draftee? Since I don't think I've ever seen it before, I have to believe there is a rule against it.
  18. I would argue that Hall+Ortiz is at least equal to Mayo alone. I think Hall gets a "prospect-boost," for being left-handed, and Ortiz for being a true plus shortstop. Within the game, those guys can be hard to find. Now, obviously, Hall hasn't looked the part at the big league level yet, so, I can understand why people are down on him. Also, I just have a prejudice against minor league sluggers that don't have a consistently strong batting average, so I'm not a big Mayo guy. Just my opinions. I think this thread and future threads in this forum will be pretty quiet this upcoming off-season. There simply isn't a lot the Brewers will be doing after they make their 40-man/rule 5 decisions. Sure, the corner-infield spots will need resolution, and there will be tinkering at the bottom of the roster, but there isn't a lot of intrigue other than Devin's return package. They'll need a backup catcher, and I'm sure they'll sign a couple of starting pitchers. Perhaps they could package Devin and Wilken or Boeve for a young infielder with some experience... Josh Smith, Jordan Westburg, Jake Burger, Jose Miranda, or Mark Vientos all have varying success on teams that may either be motivated by Devin or by prospects.
  19. That was my first thought as well. But I dunno. His career numbers are all over the place. He wouldn't be expensive at all. Perhaps getting out of the Southside would revitalize his interest in playing baseball? But yeah, no.
  20. It's not that I think those options are all better than Rosario, as much as I'm not sure I believe that Rosario represents a big upgrade over those options, and that in the playoffs, Monasterio is more of a pinch-runner, defensive sub, than as a pinch hitter, as Sanchez and (currently Haase), probably fill the pinch hit roles from the right side. One could convince me I'm wrong, I very well could be. I notice Rosario does have pretty strong career numbers versus lefties, and he's only 28, so okay, the Brewers could pick him up. I guess I just don't feel very strongly about it.
  21. I guess I would prefer to either go with Hicklen/Roller, or a guy like recently released Harold Ramirez over Rosario in that case.
  22. I don't want to say this, but I'm beginning to believe what KLaw and others have predicted about Misiorowski ending up in the pen. I still want the Brewers to continue to develop him as a starter next season, but he really does "look" like a reliever.
  23. I've wondered about this from the Brewers perspective as well... Sometimes I wonder if the MLB scouting departments spends more time on "big" games, as they count "more," in the standings. Who cares if the Brewers go .500 against the Rockies and the Fish, so long as they bash their division and league rivals? Again, I'm not claiming anything, just wonder sometimes about how MLB scouting works with limited scouting resources.
