  1. I tend to favor the players over the owners, but not much sympathy here. The system is set up so you are underpaid your first few years, and then wildly overpaid after signing free agent contracts.
  2. Daniel Norris (AAA/MLB), Jeff Hoffman (AA), Jake Thompson (AA), and Sean Manaea (AA) were all top-100 pitching prospects traded last season. Not counting Josh Hader (AA) and others. Those guys got dealt for the likes of Price, Tulowitski, Hamels and Zobrist. Top pitching can be had - but it means you have to give up something pretty special. Teams are reluctant to give up good pitching prospects, but if Lucroy shows he's healthy, I imagine he's the guy that will fetch us one (or two). Sure, I don't think we're going to get Norris. Just pointing out that pitching is still readily traded for commensurate major league talent.

  4. Armchair quarterbacking draft picks with the benefit of hindsight is bad enough, but Turner is a top-15 prospect because he was an advanced college SS who has turned out to be good. Medeiros is three years younger and hasn't yet reached the age of a possible breakout that will vault him into being an elite SP prospect, so we can't really say which pick was better at this point. Right now you could say that Turner was a vastly superior pick to Tyler Kolek (#2 overall), just because the latter is still a teenager.
  5. If playing Hill at 3B rather than 2B means we have a better shot of keeping Walsh, then I'm all for it. I don't think Middlebrooks has any upside anymore really, and while Cecchini does it makes sense to start him at AAA.
  6. Actually Santana has a higher AVG in his minor league career than Flores (30 points higher at AAA), but I'm glad a side effect of your anti-Santana bias is praise of Flores, because I'd love if they were both good.
  7. Also why are we freaking out over Josh Hader's huge fall league performance, but if Santana does poorly it is nothing? Seems like it should go both ways. Not everyone is freaking out over Hader's fall league performance, but anyways: a) fall league is a different level of competition than winter ball, b) it's more significant when a player dominates than when he does poorly because it suggests he is figuring things out, whereas it is highly unlikely that Santana is suddenly terrible (and more likely that he was in a bad mindset, working on mechanics, etc.) For me winter ball stats are about the same as spring training stats.
  8. I honestly don't see why anyone cares whether we are a 62-win team or a 81-win team. Nobody expects us to make the playoffs, and either way you're looking at a >50% chance we lose any given game. Who cares???
  9. And Chris Carter has one HR every 15.9 major league ABs. (You know, the guy we signed off the scrapheap on a one-year, $2.5M deal.) Power is not everything. Santana has better on-base skills and is a better defender than Davis (who is a fine player, don't get me wrong). And on top of that, let's not forget that Santana is young and has pretty great power potential.
  10. [sarcasm]Unfortunately, I don't think the Brewers can trade a certain segment of their fanbase to another team. Believe me, I've looked into it.[/sarcasm]
  11. Domingo Santana, 2015 (22 years old): .238/.337/.431/.768, .336 wOBA Khris Davis, career: .250/.315/.494/.809, .349 wOBA Domingo Santana, 2015 (22 years old): 33.7 K% Khris Davis, 2015 (27 years old): 27.7 K%
  12. Davis is not a sure thing either. He's had streaks of being fairly horrendous, and he's not getting any younger. Despite your claim of being high on Santana, it doesn't sound like you are. Personally, I think weighing proximity/risk, Santana has the most upside of any non-Braun OF in the system (obviously someone like Clark could surpass him, but Clark is a long ways off). Offseason stats are 100% irrelevant. 100%.
  13. It seems opinions differ. John Sickels rated Nottingham a B+/B prospect, which would place him #5 in the Brewers system. Baseball Prospectus rated Nottingham #66 in their Top 101, which would place him #3 in the Brewers system. Baseball America was much lower on him than anyone else and had him #11 in a slightly-lower-ranked Athletics system, so presumably he would be in the mid-teens in the Brewers system. The MLB.com Pipeline ranking (#16 in the system or whatever) is irrelevant because they haven't updated those yet, and Nottingham had a huge breakout 2015. If you're confident that he can stick at catcher (which Stearns & co. presumably are), then it seems like top-5 in the system is about right. Pipeline was updated a couple of weeks ago: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016 NOttingham is not on the top 100 list. He is listed as the #8 catcher. BA Top 100 just came out. Nottingham isn't a top 100 guy for them. The MLB Pipeline top-100 was updated, but the team top-30s have not been updated as far as I know. (I think not until March?) Another change in our likely starting lineup C - J. Lucroy 1B - C. Carter 2B - S. Gennett SS - J. Villar 3B - G. Cecchini LF - R. Braun CF - R. Liriano RF - D. Santana I think? Can't even keep track anymore
  14. Four in the top-60 is pretty good. I feel like there's a bunch of guys who are on the verge of top-100 status.
  15. I don't think this can really blow up in Stearns's face. Khris Davis is at his best a solid league-average corner OF. There is no ceiling left there, and anyways we are rebuilding.

  17. Do you think each team has its own system? It's not like ZiPS is something an organization with hundreds of millions of dollars in resources couldn't knock together pretty quickly (in fact, teams probably have much more advanced systems)
  18. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Orimoloye's 6 HR last year were the most in a debut season by a player named Oluwademilade Oluwadamilola in baseball history!
  19. Since when does Rymer Liriano have such a great defensive reputation? He's projected to be the best defender on the team by quite a bit, +10 Def compared to Arcia's +7 Def. Obviously Zips projections are totally meaningless (especially the defensive rating, is that just eyeballed?) but it's interesting to see that. I would be even more excited about Liriano if I thought he was going to be an elite defender. It must be projecting him as a corner OF given the final zWAR total, but still.
  20. An Arcia-Turner combo up the middle would be a lot of fun, but I don't think Washington would trade Turner. It makes their team worse for 2016, and a top-15 prospect is probably too much of an ask. I would rather target Victor Robles. That's the kind of guy you target when he's 18 before he turns into a top-5 prospect, future MVP-caliber stud.
  21. There's only one correct answer.
  22. Prospects aren't that valuable, but yeah Lucroy isn't going to cut it for a top-10 prospect. Even Gallo is too much to ask.
  23. No offense to Morris, but it is kind of shocking to think back and realize that he used to be #1 in the system.
  24. A 3.9 BB/9 for a teenager in A-ball is very far from a "general lack of control" (particularly when you consider that he did not give up a home run all season) To the earlier question, I think it is 100% because when he was initially drafted it was a "reach" based on pundits and internet rankings. Nevermind that he's from Hawaii and barely any of the pundits had really seen him pitch in an extended look.
  25. Haha, I love the range of reactions whenever Braun says or does something. Oh well. Braun is still the face of the franchise, Lucroy will be gone sooner or latter.
