  1. I'm guessing some team is floating him, i.e. he's giving other teams a massive price tag and one of the largest draft pools is going to sign him with their 2nd/3rd pick for upper-first-round money.
  2. There goes my dreams of a Will Smith-Will Smith battery.
  3. Would love somebody like Joey Wentz to last to our next pick.
  4. Oh good because that is all I need. Royals didn't have an Ace and did just fine last year. Also you can find Aces down in the lower minors before they get big. Teams do it all the time. Ok last one because I didn't see it. Be realistic. We need a front line pitcher who can win multiple playoff games in a playoff series. No one said its the only way to win. In my opinion, it's the optimal way. Get yourself a Bumgarner type whenever possible which is barely ever. This was a shot. If teams thought Groome had a reasonable chance of becoming Madison Bumgarner, he would have gone in the top 3 picks. All of the pitchers this season are flawed, there's a reason they fell.
  5. High pick for Gavin Lux, good for him!
  6. +1 People are entitled to their opinions. It's pretty basic. It really ruins the thread when people just whine nonstop about a pick they know nothing about though. Criticize the front office for going with an OF over a SP, going for less risk, or whatever, but people just trashing Corey Ray as if he's a bad player is totally uncalled for. He is an elite player.
  7. That's called upside, i.e. he exceeds his current power tool (which projects 15-20 HR). He had good HR stats in college and he has the build for showing more power down the line. It's optimistic but not unrealistic.
  8. Ryan Braun did not lead his team in OBP the year he was drafted. I'm guessing you would find it's not unusual. Teams draft based on tools and potential, not college performance. I get that. Not trying to overstate the importance of obp when projecting a player. But I'll bet Miami didn't have several players with higher obp. Just interesting for a top 5 pick, could very well mean nothing. I mean, it's not like he had awful college stats. Ray lead the ACC in total bases, was third in home runs, lead in stolen bases by a mile, etc. The reason he didn't have a huge OBP was because he didn't hit .380 AVG like his teammates, but I haven't seen any scouting reports questioning his hit tool. He gets 50/60 hit tool grades.
  9. Where are the Ray scouting reports saying he has a low ceiling? If he sticks in CF and develops more power he is a potential 30-30 guy up the middle...
  10. Ryan Braun did not lead his team in OBP the year he was drafted. I'm guessing you would find it's not unusual. Teams draft based on tools and potential, not college performance.
  11. That the exact response I received a few years ago when I said the same things about Jed Bradley. I continue to "pretend" to act like I know what I'm talking about, because I do. Rather than being condescending, simply show me a college player who hit like Ray and then became successful. People will tell me those mediocre collegiate results don't matter, just like they said about Bradley. They also said Bradley was a good pick because these same so-called experts who also like Ray said so. Sorry, but drafting based on college OPS is not a great way of proving that you know what you're talking about. A center fielder with a .958 OPS and 44 SB is a problem?
  12. Corey Ray sounds like a great guy, he is not an underslot deal because every single mock had him in this top 5 or 10 picks, and some professional evaluators think he is the best player in the draft. There is objectively no reason to be upset about the Brewers pick.
  13. This is just ridiculous. I mean, come on.
  14. This forum really turns into "JS Online Comments" sometimes. Yes, there were arguably more "exciting" players than Corey Ray, but he was a consensus top-5/top-10 talent and some evaluators had him as the best player in the draft. Stop pretending like you know what you're talking about and that he's a bad player.
  15. So it's not the consensus, but there are numerous well-respected evaluators who thought Ray was the best player in the draft. Hard to complain about that really... Ray is the best player drafted by the Brewers since Ryan Braun, that's more or less an objective fact. Midwesterner and a great story too: http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/ray-of-light-corey-ray/
  16. Interesting, Law had Ray #1?
  17. A cynic might say this is the result of all our high-upside prospects tanking this season. (I like Ray though, not too miffed. Love having a couple of high-OBP outfielders in Ray and Clark)
  18. Oh boy.. going to be a great night on these forums.
  19. Riley Pint's face at learning he will have to pitch in Colorado:
  20. Rutherford is my #1 pick in the draft, but hard to complain if we go with Puk (i.e. the #1 prospect in the draft )
  21. JJ Cooper from Baseball America, but now he's tweeting that it's not confirmed. *Edit* And has now thrown out another name. Seems the Brewers are the team nobody knows for sure yet.
  22. Based on the rumors/leaks for picks 1-3, there are going to be some great players available at #5! Tough decision coming.
  23. Sounds like we know who's going 1-1. Not sure if people want to keep this thread free of pre-pick leaks?
  24. Rutherford is my #1 position player and Pint is my #1 pitcher, would be thrilled with either one.
  25. LOL.. do it in his chat.. http://www.d1baseball.com/d1chat.php Interestingly, 20% of the readers in this chat would pick Corey Ray 1-1, for all the haters out there.
