  1. Agree. I think Lind will be traded in the offseason and one of Santana or Braun will be moved to first. Santana seems like he should be a decent OF, but that big frame would be a nice target at 1B. Leave Davis in LF where is bad defense does the least harm, and let some warm body fill in at CF until Phillips is ready. Since he is going to knock Santana out of CF anyhow, I would rather have the good player (Braun or Santana) make the position change in the offseason rather than mid-season. You would be wasting Santana's plus arm by moving him to 1B. Braun should be the one moving, and if he can't/won't then just trade Davis already. We can also keep Santana in CF for a year, it's just a rebuild season anyways.
  2. Well except that he can work inside the strike zone consistently... No idea what you're talking about. Making Medeiros repeat A ball would be foolish. Maybe if he struggles at A+, then ok. But start him at Brevard County and see what happens.
  3. Medeiros should not have to repeat A ball, he should spend the year at Brevard County IMO.
  4. Who's the runner, Johnny Estrada? Edit - my mistake, originally thought you were saying the ball was hit into play, the 1B dropped it, but the pitcher still tagged the guy out a first
  5. It's not on his agents. Contracts in baseball are not supposed to be performance based. That's what the MLBPA has fought for. I personally don't have any sympathy for a millionaire baseball player getting screwed out of being a larger millionaire, but I can still understand why Garza would be mad.
  6. Let's be realistic here, they didn't take him out of the rotation because he has been so awful that they couldn't keep starting him. We are in rebuild mode and it would actually work in our favor to lose more games. That is 100% just an excuse to take away starts so his option is less likely to vest. He is justifiably mad because they are exploiting a contractual provision that was supposed to be about health to stop him from gaining starts even though he is healthy. (I don't like Garza that much though, so oh well, sorry dude.)
  7. Yeah but Ruth was hitting them off guys throwing in the low-80s who worked as plumbers in the offseason. (The great pitchers of that era might be able to hold their own in the modern MLB, don't get me wrong, but the quality of the league as a whole was not comparable.)
  8. But we didn't trade Fiers for a stud OF prospect, we added Fiers to a Carlos Gomez package in order to get those stud OF. If you really think Fiers is as good as he has been so far in the majors, then it was a terrible return. Agree to disagree I guess. FWIW, I liked the trade, but that's because I think the bottom is going to drop out with Fiers (my original point). I suspect the front office does as well.
  9. So you all think that the Brewers traded a mid-3's ERA pitcher with 4.5 years of (cheap) team control left? How are you not furious about that trade then? The Brewers obviously don't think he is as good as his career stats to date, or they would not have traded him. Simple as that.
  10. Waiting for the bottom to drop out. Don't think the Brewers front office would have traded him if they didn't suspect it was going to.
  11. Santana gets good marks for speed. It doesn't seem like anyone is raving about his defense, but I see zero reason to think he can't play a corner OF because of his height/size. He's not Ryan Howard out there.
  12. I'm not super familiar with Santana's OF defense, but it seems like scouts consider his arm possibly his best single tool (I think MLB Pipeline had him with a 70 throwing arm?). Doesn't mean I think he's a Gold Glover, but it seems a shame to move him to 1B. Just to clarify, Santana is listed as having a 60 arm and 50 field. A person I trust who has seen him says he's average at best. Really nice arm, but stiff and not particularly instinctive. That's just one person's opinion. Thank you, my mistake. Brett Phillips is listed as having a 70 arm.

  15. Braun is barely halfway through his career. He could very well hit at least 100+ more HR as a Brewer. I just don't think it's something to get that excited about.
  16. Is there any concern that Brett Phillips has only hit 1 HR in 187 AB at AA? He had 15 HR in 291 AB at A+ earlier this season, but his power appears to have disappeared. Still hitting well overall, but a little worrisome to me.
  17. Depends on the return, but nobody should be off limits. For example, I would gladly trade Arcia for one of the SP prospects ranked in MLB Pipeline's Top 20.
  18. Doesn't say any of that in my Bible, perhaps you should read the words a little more closely.
  19. Awesome! Shame that Denson seems such a longshot to reach the majors, but an important step nonetheless.
  20. The trade as proposed is a little hard to judge because Santana seems like he should already be in the majors, so it doesn't make a lot of sense. However, if I was a contending team, and needed a solid LF bat, and had a #75-100 prospect in the lower minors who could not help me anytime soon, I would not be outraged by that trade.
  21. If you look at Braun's stats, his ISO is down but the real 'problem' is that he is hitting too many ground balls. His LD% is at career norms (18.4% this season, 18.3% for his career, 18.4% in his last MVP-caliber season (2012)), as is his HR/FB% (19.8% this season (not counting tonight's HR), 18.2% for his career, 18.8% in his 2011 MVP season). So he is still hitting the ball as hard as ever. However, over the last three season he is hitting a lot more ground balls and fewer fly balls. Combined with the fact that he's not as fast as he used to be, all those ground balls are really killing his AVG/SLG. I'm not sure what's causing him to hit the ball on the ground more, whether it is age or the thumb issue messing with his swing, but I'm pretty sure it's not PEDs.
  22. It's probably going to be Ray Montgomery, don't you think?
  23. Your projected batting line doesn't seem unreasonable, but FWIW Santana has a career .307 AVG and .399 OBP at AAA (874 PA). That's roughly .40 points better in both AVG/OBP than Chris Carter put up in AAA (plus Santana reportedly has a cannon arm in RF while Carter is a mediocre 1B/DH). He's got a lot of swing-and-miss in him, it sounds like, but I think he has better OBP potential than a lot of guys he's getting compared to. Even a .350 OBP with his power potential would be a good RF.
  24. Just curious, what do you consider to be above-average totals for a minor league first base prospect? Perhaps I am being too imprecise by saying "above-average" - I don't know if Roache's totals are objectively above-average compared to other minor league 1B. But if you are a 1B and have subpar OBP skills (Roache has a career .315 career OBP in the minors, career best of .327 this season), I think you need 30-35+ HR power at a minimum. A lot of the top-100 1B prospects over the last few years did not have huge power, but they were putting up .380+ OBPs.
  25. All you've done is explain why legit minor league 1B prospects are so rare.
