  1. I suspect they've budgeted having somewhere between $750,000 to $1,000,000 extra to throw at a post-Round 10 guy, so they are drafting all of these long shots to maximize their chances that one of them jumps at it. Brilliant strategy, if it works.
  2. Brewers draft slot values: 1-15: $2,692,700 T. Clark 1b-40: $1,545,400 N. Kirby 2-55: $1,108,000 C. Ponce 3-90: $646,300 N. Walters 4-121: $465,600 D. Orimoloye 5-151: $348,600 B. Allemand 6-181: $261,000 E. Hanhold 7-211: $196,700 G. Iskenderian 8-241: $171,100 N. Griep 9-271: $159,700 K. Lindell 10-301: $149,700 J. Drossner Just doing some mental math, the first four rounds look like they'll be right around slot, with the possible exception of Walters who presumably had a deal in place with the Brewers and might be below slot. If most of the college picks post-Round 4 take under slot bonuses (Lindell will probably be over slot), that could clear up enough excess money to offer one of these guys an $800k-$1M signing bonus. Am I wrong?
  3. Considering we are looking like a possible first overall pick in a stacked 2016 draft, not sure it's the best year to do that. They're probably hoping just one of these guys decides to take $200,000 or whatever and signs. (Which is far from a 0% probability scenario)
  4. I'm sure they're all signable, the question if whether you have to go overslot for some of them though.
  5. There's struggling, and then there's just getting embarrassed. I imagine the Brewers would not have sent either player to Wisconsin if they knew how bad they would be, because the psychological impact cannot be good for their development.
  6. Seems like Orimoloye could be a somewhat difficult sign in the fourth round, don't you think?
  7. Sort of like Harrison in that he's an amazing athlete who hasn't been fully committed to baseball very long. Huge upside.
  8. Ok! That's pretty exciting, Orimoloye is a beast.
  9. We're also into the part of the draft where the consensus breaks down. Could be they just think Walters is better than those guys.
  10. I didn't even think of this but honestly, why in the heck does the MLB network not have live coverage of the draft? They have one job, cover Major League Baseball and they fail. Idiots. Do you want to listen to Harold Reynolds talk about 5th-round picks? To answer the original question, MLB.com will have coverage including a live stream of the conference call where picks are made plus running commentary from Jim Callis (& John Mayo?). It's actually much more interesting than the MLB Network coverage, so I'm glad it's only online.
  11. Wish list for #90? Some of the remaining players are going to be hard to sign, especially since it doesn't look like we are going to be able to go over slot, so factoring that in I like the following guys based on scouting blurbs: RHP Cole Sands (HS) CF Skye Bolt (CL) RHP Chandler Day (HS) C Austin Rei (CL) 3B Trey Cabbage (HS)
  12. What?? Everything I've read says he has four pitches that could potentially developed into usable major-league pitches, I don't know how much more secondary you can get. Pitchers with multiple present above-average pitches go in the top-10, certainly not the second round. He's a big ogre of a pitcher with a large arsenal and a lot of upside. Go Ponce!
  13. I think his fall is pretty conclusive evidence that he can't stay at Catcher, so meh. I want PONCE!
  14. Gatewood/Harrison was perhaps the most glorious moment in Brewers draft history, I think we're spoiled from that
  15. He was firmly a first-rounder but suffered a lat strain which caused him to drop (one of the four injured pitchers along with Aiken, Matuella, and Allard). He doesn't have 1-1 upside like Aiken or Matuella but it's a pretty good pick at 40.
  16. Ok, pretty good, pretty good! One of the four injury guys.
  17. Damn, they're going to sign him too I bet. Doesn't affect us, but I hate the Astros.
  18. Some of the top-ranked players still available (unless I missed anybody): Baseball America 5 Daz Cameron (OF) HS 21 Donny Everett (RHP) HS 23 Michael Matuella (RHP) CL 26 Nathan Kirby (RHP) CL 28 Chris Betts © HS 32 Alex Young (LHP) CL 34 Dakota Chalmers (RHP) HS 35 Jalen Miller (SS) HS 36 Cody Ponce (RHP) CL Fangraphs 12 Daz Cameron 16 Chris Betts 23 Michael Matuella 27 Bryce Denton (OF) HS 29 Nathan Kirby 32 Scott Kingery (2B) CL 33 Cody Ponce
  19. Betts, Ponce, Matuella if you want to get really crazy.
  20. Baseball America report on Clark. Not too shabby!
  21. That really only makes sense for a college pitcher if he thinks he can come back and be a top-5 pick. Boras knows that's not going to happen, especially since next year's draft class is so good, so I'm sure he would be happy with >$1M. Strange that he's fallen this far though.
  22. I would be thrilled to get Funkhouser at 40 though.
  23. [sarcasm]Charlie Hayes, yeah![/sarcasm]
