  1. Does anyone know why Flores fell off top-100 lists after 2011? In 2012 he had an .827 OPS as a 20-year-old at A+/AA, but didn't make any pre-2013 lists. In 2013 he had an .887 OPS at AAA as a 21-year-old but didn't make any pre-2014 lists (I think he was still eligible despite some MLB service time). He was in a hitter-friendly league, but still, just seems like the hype didn't match the stats.
  2. Segura is basically a goner at this point, right? SS is Arcia's, and this trade signals they want Flores at 2B. Segura can't hit enough for 3B and I don't see him in CF. Sardinas can fill in at SS until Arcia is ready and move to a utility role after that. Maybe he'll be traded by Friday too?
  3. Wilmer Flores's minor league numbers as a 21/22-year-old at AAA are pretty exciting, no doubt. There were reports that the Brewers wanted 2B Dilson Herrera but were rebuffed, so I'm guessing they want to use Flores at 2B.
  4. So what is our starting lineup looking like mid/late-2016? C J. Lucroy 1B J. Rogers? 2B W. Flores SS O. Arcia 3B M. Dominguez? J. Segura? LF K. Davis CF T. Taylor? J. Segura? RF R. Braun SP Z. Wheeler SP J. Nelson SP M. Fiers SP T. Jungmann SP W. Peralta
  5. If Wheeler isn't ready to go until July 2016, does that give us an extra year of team control in 2020? Would be nice if so.
  6. They have to do medicals on Wheeler's TJ arm, so I doubt this trade is formalized for a while still. That's probably why Flores is still in the game, I guess? (Still, you'd think they would pull him if there's an informal agreement)
  7. I'm softening a bit on Wilmer Flores, it seems like he has potential and could be an option at 2B/3B. Still think Wheeler is severely overrated due to his former prospect status though, and am not happy with the trade. This would have been a great return for Segura, but for Gomez?
  8. He's 25 (will be 26 next season), and is only under control through 2019. Wheeler is a fine pitcher, but he's yet another #3 for our rotation. (Wilmer Flores is obviously totally useless, sub-.300 OBP and poor defense, what is the point when we already have Segura, Sardinas, and Arcia). Just incredibly underwhelming for Carlos Gomez.
  9. It's widely reported as Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores coming back to Milwaukee. Is this Melvin sabotaging the Brewers because he knows he's "retiring" at the end of the season? Worst trade in franchise history, that statement not intended as hyperbole. Oh well, what can you do...
  10. It's done, we got fleeced. Totally embarrassing.
  11. He would be a minor piece in a deal. He had a decent batting line last year and 2013-2014 he had a combined 7 dWAR. It isn't like he would be the center piece. I sure hope so. His BB/K ratio looks so, well, Milwaukee that I'd want to scream. I'd hope the center piece is better than Wheeler. Boomer5, it's done my friend. We traded Carlos Gomez for Mike Fiers and a guy even worse than Segura.
  12. Probably the worst trade in franchise history, what is he doing???
  13. I have defended Doug Melvin too long, what an awful trade. Totally reprehensible.
  14. Might be worth a new thread, if someone wants to create one. Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 25s26 seconds ago Deal with #Brewers is done pending physicals. Gomez to #Mets
  15. Well, the trade is done, per Joel Sherman. Now we wait for the return...
  16. Then don't trade him right now, wait until someone is desperate in the offseason or next July. Wheeler is another mid-3.00 ERA pitcher (and we don't even get 6 years of team control) (and he is coming back from a major injury that cost him the entire season). Whoop-de-doo. I'm guessing the Mets would be thrilled to unload Wheeler on us. I suspect this trade has not happened yet because, as noted on Twitter, Melvin is demanding one of the top-4.
  17. Just because Brewer fans don't know how good Fiers has been doesn't mean Wheeler is bad. He's not bad, but I don't consider him a potential ace which is what I think Carlos Gomez is worth. Wheeler for Segura maybe, but for Gomez I want Matz or better.
  18. From my friend I talked to who works for the Orioles said they were interested in Gomez but the Brewers wanted Gausman plus more in return. The Indians are interesting but I am not all that familiar with their minor league system and what they could offer for Gomez. They have a Carlos Gomez like lefty outfielder as their top prospect. Not much pitching wise Brady Aiken is no slouch. But Melvin might want a more immediate contributor.
  19. Quite generous to include Wheeler in the same tier as Harvey/deGrom/Matz. This trade is going to be bad... Wheeler is such a disappointing return for Gomez. I disagree with that. Wheeler has ace upside. You're asking for the moon. If they want to part with Harvey/deGrom/Matz/Syndergaard great, but Wheeler is no slouch either. IMO Pitcher A: 335.2 IP, 3.67 ERA, 3.62 FIP, 3.62 xFIP, 9.2 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, free agent after 2019 Player B: 285.1 IP, 3.50 ERA, 3.77 FIP, 3.74 xFIP, 8.6 K/9, 3.9 BB/9, free agent after 2019 One is older, but the other is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Not clear to me which I'd rather have. (A is Fiers, B is Wheeler)
  20. Ah, good point. I am all in favor of top-4 then!!!
  21. Quite generous to include Wheeler in the same tier as Harvey/deGrom/Matz. This trade is going to be bad... Wheeler is such a disappointing return for Gomez.
  22. Wheeler stinks.
  23. Was that topic that just gave me a heart attack about a trade for Wheeler/Lagaras a link to a hoax account? Now deleted it appears.
  24. He already had a 4.5 fWAR season under his belt, to be fair. I think teams recognize that he is an elite defender even if UZR does not this season, so they are going to be valuing him pretty highly (or should) if his bat is showing any life whatsoever.
