  1. We hear this "Melvin doesn't want to trade anybody" stuff before every trade, that's just how he operates. Not worth taking seriously.
  2. They have a number of second-tier pieces I wouldn't mind having (Cecchini, Smith, Fulmer, Urena), so maybe Melvin could do breadth over depth. I want no part of a trade headlined by Conforto, Nimmo, or Wheeler though...
  3. Hope it's not Gomez. I just cannot get excited about any of the Mets prospects. Unless they traded Matz, but I think he's off limits.
  4. Sort of disappointed we only have two, but glad to see Clark on the list.
  5. First trade I've seen this season where I feel like the seller got a good return, hope things keep tipping toward a seller's market before the Brewers unload their main pieces.
  6. Reyes is too much for Lind. Kaminsky maybe, but St. Louis is coasting and doesn't really need anybody so huge kudos to Melvin if he can get that good of a return.
  7. He's old for his level and hasn't even been used exclusively as a SP. Given the way the Brewers organization has handled him, I'd say his ceiling is a lower-tier RP. Nothing wrong with that though.
  8. The downside on Segovia so far is that he's shown almost zero power (122 professional hits, 0 home runs and only 12 for extra-bases), but he's young and not too small (6'1" according to B-Ref) so he might have room to add some muscle and start driving the ball more. Anyone hear any scouting reports on him? How's his defense?
  9. I would be disappointed if the return was less than a guy like Pompey. Over 335 IP, Fiers has a 9.2 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, and 3.67 ERA. He's under team control for four more seasons. Yeah he's old and was not a top prospect, but he still has tremendous value.
  10. Not enough. Matz for Gomez or find another team. Not like he's hard to trade.
  11. I don't think their numbers look that similar, but Brandon Webb is at least an example of a pitcher whose minor league track record was not that impressive who blossomed into an elite pitcher.
  12. That's a pretty mediocre rotation, to be completely honest. Who is our ace, Mike Fiers??
  13. d'Arnaud is way way too much for Parra. Best case (along those lines) would be if we could pry Kevin Plawecki away from them instead.
  14. I'm fine with the return. Barrios's K/9 is somewhat disturbing, but if he's only been pitching a year and he can throw 100 mph then there's potential there for a late-inning reliever, which would be great value. Not sure why the Pirates were so aggressive in promoting him all the way to AAA. I would give him a couple years in the minors to learn how to pitch.
  15. It's hard to be a starting corner OF at the major league level without any power. I think Reed's upside will be a very valuable bench OF whose OBP skills as a PH will be much appreciated.
  16. I voted for Medeiros #1 over Arcia. Arcia is much closer to the majors, but I think he has a little too much helium (I was very surprised that BA ranked him as a top-10 prospect, since that seems like MVP-upside territory to me and Arcia's bat isn't good enough for that), whereas I think Medeiros is primed for a full-on breakout and has legit potential to be a frontline SP. Thank you reillymcshane for compiling the list!
  17. Gausman has already burned a year of team control and hasn't shown he will be a frontline starter in the majors. I'd prefer gambling on six years of a potential ace in any Gomez trade. I don't consider the Competitive Balance Round B pick to have all that much trade value.
  18. It's a possiblity. Lost in the shuffle of everyone drooling over fantasy baseball trades the Brewers are 11-4 on the month counting tonight's result and were 14-14 in June. They're hot, and seems like they're getting hotter. Hopefully brewerfan.net doesn't collapse from the influx of angry posts if we don't see a trade of significance by July 31. We still have the fourth worst record in baseball... Doug better be manning those phones!
  19. I don't trust Daniel Norris. Too many injuries and his results have never been particularly stellar over a long period of time (other than one stint at A+). Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him, but I don't view him as a centerpiece in a Gomez trade.
  20. They have at least one elite prospect in RHP Alex Reyes. Would love to somehow get him in our system, though seeing Gomez in a Cardinals uniform would feel particularly dystopian.
  21. Fiers AND Gomez? No way. Jeff Hoffman seems like a great starting point for a Fiers trade, though I am a little concerned by Hoffman's numbers (specifically the lack of strikeouts) in the minor leagues. Jon Harris (just drafted) would be an interesting piece as well.
  22. Cross-posting from another thread: RHP Dylan Bundy and RHP Hunter Harvey would be an interesting starting point. If that seems like a lot, keep in mind that in addition to the huge injury issues (Harvey is injured, Bundy has never been healthy), Bundy is already in his last option year (which doesn't necessarily affect team control, but means he has to sink or swim, perhaps diminishing his value). If the injuries make that sound like not enough, keep in mind we would be rolling the dice on two potential ace pitchers. I think you could mix in lesser talents like C Chance Sisco (high upside catching prospect, too valuable to just be a thrown in so maybe he starts making this trade unrealistically rich), 1B Christian Walker (having a down season, but a potential 1B option to replace Lind), and 3B Jomar Reyes (powerful teenager out of the Dominican who has been performing great for his age, could be our 3B (or 1B) of the future).
  23. He put up a .397 OBP and .941 OPS with almost as many walks as strikeouts (42 BB vs. 52 K)... [sarcasm]Guess they should have sent him down to face teenagers in A+ in order to raise his prospect stock.[/sarcasm]
  24. According to Rosenthal, the Orioles are one of the teams interested in Gomez. RHP Dylan Bundy and RHP Hunter Harvey would be an interesting starting point. If that seems like a lot, keep in mind that in addition to the huge injury issues (Harvey is injured, Bundy has never been healthy), Bundy is already in his last option year (which doesn't necessarily affect team control, but means he has to sink or swim, perhaps diminishing his value). 25. Jon Singleton has twenty times as much value as AJ Reed. Ummm, think your losing it. AJ Reed was not even ranked in the Astros top 10 prospects coming into the season. He's an advanced college hitter who was (unsurprisingly) feasting on A+ league pitching this season as a 22-year-old. Last year Singleton was the same age and put up similar numbers at AAA, and is doing so again this year. He's also been ranked as high as the #25 prospect in all of baseball, is signed to a very team-friendly contract, and is a better athlete. The fact that he scuffled in a small MLB sample size is relatively insignificant. Much, much, much better prospect.
