  1. Darn, was hoping to avoid having to use K-Rod.
  2. I love that Maldonado is live-tweeting his suspension.
  3. Did Axford start the ninteenth-century-facial-hair revival in MLB? Brian Wilson contributed too, obviously, but I feel like Axford was first.
  4. It wasn't a full swing, so in that sense not as bad as you might think. But he still got clocked by Braun's bat. At one point Cubs announcers said he might have a broken jaw, but on Twitter I'm hearing he just has a gash by his eye. If the latter, I wouldn't think it's that bad, unless he had a concussion or something.
  5. Estrada CG tonight would be huge.
  6. Remember when Weeks was like the fastest guy in MLB? Ah, the cruel, unrelenting march of time.
  7. I forgot that the Cards got a pick for Kyle. Who did they get? HS LHP Rob Kaminsky. Looks like he's off to a decent start at Rk (3.68 ERA, 11.5 K/9, 3.7 BB/9)
  8. [sarcasm]This would be a great time for a bunt.[/sarcasm]
  9. It sounds like he might actually be ok and not miss much time, making it moot. I was thinking more of the scenario where he has a broken jaw or something and is out two months.
  10. I think they might lose both their first-round and second-round picks, but basically the plan would be to sign Drew to a one-year deal (which he would gladly accept to get a better multi-year offer next season), and try to get Morales on a cheap multi-year deal. You get an imposing lineup of: CF Gomez C Lucroy RF Braun 3B Ramirez 1B Morales SS Drew 2B Gennett LF Davis You get an excellent backup/bench bat once Segura returns, and you get some late-season insurance in case Gennett starts to struggle. (Could even try Drew in the outfield if Davis doesn't heat up). I would gladly give up the picks given how good the team looks this season. No reason not to strike now.
  11. Please no to Kendry Morales and losing the 1st round pick. Despite the success this year, the Brewers still need that pick. Drew and Morales both cost a pick though, so after signing Drew they could add Morales without the same penalty (I don't remember if second round picks are still lost too under new rules)
  12. Interesting hypothetical: If Segura ends up missing an extended period of time, do the Brewers consider signing Stephen Drew to fill in? I don't think Bianchi is an adequate everyday starter, and obviously there's nobody at Nashville (temporarily moving Scooter seems pretty far-fetched too). One reason it might make sense is that they could then just go all in and sign Kendrys Morales too, thereby losing their first-round pick but getting two players in return.
  13. That's one of the few advantages of Yuni. Hit him in the head with a bat and he probably wouldn't even notice.
  14. How does that happen? Have WGN on now and they are saying he might have a broken jaw.
  15. I declare this the game thread! What the heck happened to Segura?
  16. Dunn has been horrendous for the past three seasons and is still owed a fair amount of money. I wouldn't give up anything of value (even somebody like Fiers) for a guy who should be a DH-only and whose bat carries a huge question mark. For me it would have to be something like Dunn for Weeks, where both teams get rid of the salaries of players they want to dump. That said, if we got Dunn for Weeks or for a non-prospect plus a lot of salary relief, I would love to see what a Reynolds/Dunn platoon could do.
  17. Once again, better to "freeze" his development for one year and have him in the Brewers system than let him continue to develop for the Pirates. And I have to imagine being on an MLB roster offers quite a few developmental advantages even if he isn't pitching in games very often (yet).
  18. I'm going to guess Frank Thomas and Ernie Banks. Big Ern is correct, Frank Thomas hit a few Wow, I looked up the answer. That's a good one!
  19. Not sure if you are referring to the Soriano jump-drop or Matt Holiday groin-drop Haha, oops, I meant to say I can't think of one worse. Though you've named some worthy contenders. Dropping the ball is one thing but I'm not sure how you can be a professional baseball player and lack the hand-eye-coordination to catch an easy pop fly like that (or at least have it hit your glove).
  20. I only just now saw the replay. Is Junior Lake's error in the first the worst error you have ever seen? I can think of one worse.
  21. Villanueva going for the long-term sabotage by padding Overbay's numbers so Melvin doesn't go out and find a more competent replacement at 1B.
  22. I have been a skeptic, but Scooter proving me wrong lately!
  23. The issue with trading for most of those names is that teams are not even close to entering sell mode. We would be pressing our luck by sticking with Reynolds/Overbay for the next couple months, but most teams are not going to give up quality players before then. And maybe even then not at all - Seattle in particular is almost surely not going to be selling this year, right after they signed Cano, if for no other reason than public relations. In fact, they're still talking about adding another bat. If we want to trade for a 1B now, we have to target a team with a player they've been longing to dump (like Dunn), or target a team that is in full rebuild mode. Houston comes to mind as a team with an excess of 1B/DH types who would likely be willing to trade now. Can't think of any other such teams, really. I don't know if any of Chris Carter/Marc Krauss/Jesus Guzman are very appealing to Milwaukee though.
