  1. He's an extremely inconsistent player who has had great seasons and bad seasons. Last season was the worst of his career. To confidently declare that he will not be better in 2021 makes little sense given the lack of any major injury. There's reason to be optimistic.
  2. He was a 4-5 WAR player as recently as 2020. Here's hoping for a rebound.
  3. What about J-Ram for a package centered around Freddy Peralta (it would still take more)? I don't want to give up Peralta, but pretty clearly we have a huge area of strength (starting pitching) and a huge area of weakness (1B/3B offense).
  4. I don't see how you couldn't be optimistic. The thing that made us good in 2021 was our starting pitching and back-end bullpen, and all of those key players (Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta/Lauer/Houser/Ashby/Hader/Williams) are coming back while still in the prime. We will be coming into 2022 with likely a top 5 pitching staff. Meanwhile, it would be difficult for the offense to not be better in 2021. Yelich is still capable of turning back into an MVP-caliber player. JBJ will almost surely have a bounce back season (and believe it or not he is actually capable of All Star performance). A full season of Adames, who is an All Star level performer. Hiura (who was supposed to be our second best offensive contributor this season....) perhaps not totally useless? Urias quietly one of the best super-utility guys in the major leagues. I just hope they get serious about 1B/3B and bring in a decent offensive contributor there. No reason to get cheap while we still have Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta in their prime.
  5. I would bring him back, but I always find the market for 1B-only types difficult to predict, such as C.J. Cron sitting around forever and signing cheaply, or Chris Carter floating around on one-year deals and now out of baseball. Rowdy is in the borderline zone of being a below average major league 1B. (Not clear that we have any better options.)
  6. Huge props to CC that he is confident enough in Lauer to send him out in a must-win game. I was worried that they were going to push Burnes to go on short rest.
  7. Jace Peterson – $1.3MM ($0.7M) Omar Narvaez – $4.1MM ($1.6M) Brent Suter – $2.3MM ($0.7M) Luke Maile – $1.0MM ($0.4M) Josh Hader – $10.0MM ($3.25M) Brandon Woodruff – $7.1MM ($3.825) Daniel Vogelbach – $2.0MM ($0.6M) Willy Adames – $4.0MM ($3.6M) Corbin Burnes – $4.0MM ($3.6M) Eric Lauer – $2.7MM ($2.2M) Jandel Gustave – $800K ($0.2M) Adrian Houser – $2.3MM ($1.7M) Rowdy Tellez – $1.9MM ($1.3M) Luis Urias – $2.4MM ($1.8M) Obvious tenders Likely non-tenders Could go either way (Though Vogelbach will probably be tendered if we get the DH in 2022)
  8. The old "pretend you lost the ball in a small hole that someone dug along the third base line, and then quietly tag each runner as he passes for an out" trick, eh?
  9. We're getting a Manny Pina HR today. So obvious it's hardly even a prediction.
  10. Given the way this roster is constructed, it would have been a really huge below to lose the game with Burnes starting. (Even though Morton is also a postseason beast.)
  11. "Suter was clogging the roster. His injury makes room for Luke Maile." - Special Advisor Dusty Baker
  12. Kind of interesting rooting for the Cardinals for a change (the first time ever?)
  13. Getting to and winning the World Series is always going to have an element of luck/fortune. If you wanted to eliminate that element, then the World Series Champion would just be whichever team finishes the 162-game season in first place, which would not have been the Dodgers this year. (Of course that involves luck/fortune too, but you know what I mean)
  14. At least Wheeler would be a "logical" illogical choice. #SayNoToTheDodgers
  15. The value of a single reliever is a playoff series is not huge. No way is Williams the biggest lost compared to actual starters like Belt/Kershaw.
  16. I’m sure my posts are included in this list, however I disagree. I don’t think there are lots of terrible posts here. People can have their opinion of this foolish mistake made by Williams. That’s doesn’t make their posts terrible. Yes, and I can have my opinion about the posts in this thread, which I think make Brewers fandom look bad.
  17. Lots of terrible posts in this thread, but I guess they're forgivable since emotions were running high. Everybody makes mistake, I guarantee you Williams feels worse about it than you do.
  18. Time to root for the Giants and... the Cardinals?? I want a white-hot Cardinals team to knock the Dodgers out in the Wild Card.
  19. It clearly should be either Corbin Burnes or (if you are an "old school" voter) Zack Wheeler. Cannot believe that even people on this forum are acting like Scherzer is a legitimate pick.
  20. It doesn't necessarily correlate with single-game pitch count, but interesting to note that Lauer is probably one of the few guys on the pitching staff who is nowhere near his career high in IP.
  21. Even accounting for home stadiums Scherzer leads in both ERA+ (195 to 181) and ERA- (49 to 56). Yes, and suggesting that a minimal gap like that should overcome the massive difference in actual pitching performance is absurd. People are buying into name-brand, big-market media bias to even suggest that Scherzer win. Should Kyle Hendricks have won in 2016? Did he have a season basically on par with 1999 Pedro Martinez? Give me a break.
  22. Unbelievable that people are still relying on ERA in the year 2021. Scherzer pitches in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the NL, Burnes pitches in one of the most hitter-friendly parks. Might as well give it to Julio Urias for having the most Wins. Sad that we are moving backwards on stuff like this.
