  1. Excellent acquisition considering the cost. Probably the best 3B being shopped outside of Bryant/Donaldson. Not sure about merely replacing Pablo Reyes. I expect he will be the everyday 3B and Urias will become a very good superutility guy. Escobar's 2.0 fWAR this season would rank third on the team behind Narvaez and Adames.
  2. I'm excited, seems like a big move will be coming for the Brewers (please not Eric Hosmer...) He has the covid. What exactly is MLB's testing protocol? Seems counterproductive that players frequently only learn of a positive test after the game has started
  3. Hard to believe considering how bad he was for us, but Schoop was still considered a top-tier offensive 2B after his big 2017.
  4. I only tuned in for the last inning. Why are the White Sox melting down? There was like one pitch that was even borderline.
  5. This initially seemed like a light return to me, but apparently the Rays just have a ridiculous system as Ryan was a top 100 prospect prior to 2020. Seller's market so far, not ideal for us
  6. I love Scherzer but not sure why we would use our prospect capital on him when we have an unreliable offense and can already go into the playoffs with Burnes-Woodruff-Peralta.
  7. I wouldn't say no to taking a gamble on him, but all of the evidence suggests he's a AAAA player who had one fantastic month. He's also a DH-forward player who may or may not be a viable 1B in the NL.
  8. Too much, in my opinion. Gallo's upside is huge but he's also inconsistent and less valuable if we are moving him to be a full-time 1B. I'm not sure that C.J. Cron doesn't give you similar performance at 1B over the rest of the season. (Gallo is such a Brewers-ish player he would be fun to watch though. Rich man's Russell Branyan.)
  9. Mitchell, Hiura, and a low-minors flier seems like a feasible package for Jose Ramirez. I'm assuming there are a lot of teams (who knows if Cleveland is one) that still rate Hiura very highly and think a move to the AL would do wonders for him.
  10. Plouffe is pretty legit imo, but hard to say what "something big" means. Normally I'd guess Plouffe is talking to a player, but how often do players know about a trade as it is developing?
  11. I'm sure this is jinxing things, but it is not outlandish that (1) our pitching stays dominant; (2) Yelich wakes up and goes into MVP mode at some point. Can you imagine this rotation plus MVP Yelich?
  12. Merrill Kelly could be an interesting value target. He's on the last year of his guaranteed contract with a 2022 club option. Solid mid-rotation SP to take some innings off the shoulders of our top 3.
  13. Some murmurs that the Twins would trade Buxton if he doesn't agree to an extension. I'd give up anybody in the system in that trade. The infamous injuries are mostly flukey rather than recurring, and you don't get an opportunity very often to trade for a guy who, when healthy, is a legit top 3 or top 5 player in baseball. Before anyone says "his career stats aren't that great" - if you had watched Buxton play the last two years, you would know his MVP caliber stats over that time are more than legit. (The obvious rejoinder is that we already have two elite defensive CF on the roster, but that just makes it more likely in Stearns world )
  14. Why are some Brewers fans so negative about everything? We got a consensus top 10 talent at #15. It's not like they reached for some guy way down the board.
  15. Wouldn't mind a hit here to avoid some difficult pitchcount decisions.
  16. I haven't been following the draft this year, but is this considered an especially deep class? Seems like a lot of great prospects that will be around even at #15.
  17. It’s sort of a testament to just how strong Tampa Bay’s overall system is when they can trade away infielders the caliber of Jake Cronenworth, Nick Solak, Nate Lowe, Willy Adames and yet still not really skip a beat. To Tampa’s defense, Willy was hitting a buck something when we acquired him, and his hitting in Tampa’s Trop was even worse. What has happened with Willy in Milwaukee is not normal anywhere. Not necessarily. He's been fantastic since moving to Milwaukee, but when I checked about a week ago his very good numbers with Milwaukee were not even that much better than what he did across all of 2020. (They are much better now after his last week.)
  18. I'm not sure how much payroll space they've built in for a playoff-caliber team, but if we could work out something for both Josh Donaldson and Taylor Rogers where we could eat some money in return for a lesser prospect return, that would be amazing.
  19. Can't see how anyone could complaint about not overtaxing Hader after watching our season-defining bullpen fall apart in the playoffs in recent years due to overuse
  20. I think it was probably a perfect storm of factors: (1) the market value of Adames was at a short-term low because he opened the season cold (like half the league); (2) Tampa Bay foolishly felt time pressure to immediately unload him to make room for Wander Franco and their other prospects; (3) Stearns was probably more aggressive than other teams in showing a willingness to trade MLB-ready pieces so early in the season; (4) Tampa Bay likes Feyereisen enough that they had him closing out games right away; and (5) Tampa Bay may be high on Rasmussen to slot into the weird quasi-SP system they tend to utilize. All the better for us! I think I posted this earlier, but honestly if coming into 2021 we had traded Josh Hader straight up for Willy Adames I would not have been surprised or really disappointed. Incredible trade.
  21. The negative reaction to this trade was one of the most bizarre I can remember on this site. Willy Adames was considered a top 10-15 prospect in all of baseball when he debuted in 2018, he was on pace for a 4.5 fWAR season over 162 games just last season in 2020, he has never been bad, and we gave up a middle-tier prospect and a scrapheap RP having a nice season. In his career, Adames has now averaged 3.3 fWAR/4.1 bWAR per 162 games. Oh yeah, and he's still just 25 years old and has not even hit arbitration yet. Baffling that Tampa Bay gave him up so cheaply.
  22. Legitimately convinced myself for about an hour after Burnes left that he was headed for TJ and would miss most of 2022. Never have I been more relieved to hear about a mild knee injury.
  23. In happier news, Ashby is our new #1 prospect in the latest Fangraphs rankings: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-42-prospects-milwaukee-brewers/
  24. My #1 dream target at this point would be Taylor Rogers from Minnesota. Our offense has rebounded enough already that I would feel pretty good going into a playoff series with Burnes-Woodruff-Peralta backed up by Hader-Rogers-Williams
