  1. CC's lineup decisions make more sense once you learn that he bases them all on the stats database from MLB 13: The Show (2013)
  2. I don't think you get any major benefits from one day of service time, unfortunately. (Other than the one day of MLB pay!)
  3. Brosseau should be starting ever single game against LHP.
  4. I don't have a problem with the contract. My point is just that, even if we expect him to hit like the guy he was last year (or the last few years), I don't see much justification for starting him at DH vs RHP. The reason he is worth $8.5 million is that he has absolutely obliterated LHP prior to this season. His overall line in 2021 was decent despite a .286 wOBA vs. RHP, because he had a ridiculous .429 wOBA vs. LHP. A short-side platoon guy can still be good value on Cutch's contract if he is one of the best hitters in baseball against LHP (an area of weakness for the team coming into this year).
  5. Although vociferous, you can't entirely disagree with brewers888 on the questionable logic at play. Over his last 866 PA vs. RHP (start of 2019), McCutchen has hit just .216/.309/.375/.685, .299 wOBA. While far from catastrophic, that's not great production for an everyday DH or corner OF. And yet, even with his extended absence due to Covid, he has the fourth most PA against RHP in the team. McCutchen has 118 PA, Hiura still has just 39. Perhaps some of the blame goes to Stearns here, but I do think it is difficult to justify starting McCutchen regularly against RHP other than because of his contract/name. I get that we have a small bench, but it would even be better to give Jace Peterson starts at DH vs. RHP. (Since 2019, Peterson has a .313 wOBA vs. RHP.)
  6. Neither Hiura nor Brosseau really deserves to get sent down, but Brosseau makes more sense to me once both Renfroe/Adames are back. Urias should be the everyday starter at 3B, whereas at best the DH spot should be a Hiura/McCutchen platoon. (If not just Hiura full time.)
  7. For the record, Taylor already has more playing time this season than Cain, so I don't see any evidence that CC has a vendetta against him. Much like McCutchen, I think Cain is continuing to get a decent amount of playing time in the hope that it will jumpstart his bat. (Not a terrible strategy in my opinion considering we are winning and have the luxury of giving guys a longer rope.)
  8. Across the entire month of May he's been much closer to "acceptably bad" (.226/.294/.306/.601, .275 wOBA) given his plus defense, versus "unplayable" like he was in April. I'll admit that the eye test has not been super promising, but all of the projection system rest-of-season updates still think he will be solid across the rest of the season.
  9. I liked the Severino signing at the time, but I feel like Caratini is objectively better (and performing well this season) so now that we had to trade for him I don't really see a difficult decision. Would be nice if we could sneak Severino down to AAA.
  10. The Brewers offense is fine. They are a pitching forward team and could easily win the World Series without making a single addition to roster if they get hot during the playoffs. No need to over analyze things, unless the point is to say "it would be nice if Stearns adds a big bat or two before the trade deadline," in which case obviously yes that would be cool.
  11. Playoff hopefuls do not trade star players during their walk years (or prior to their walk years) to get prospects. Simply does not happen, and there is almost 0% chance it happens with Hader.
  12. Stats people need to stop using percentages like that, because they are highly misleading to the average reader. There is no way the Brewers have a "98.6% chance" of making the playoffs at this point in the season. ?
  13. Ughhhhhh... If they're already talking about "August" that means there's a decent chance he doesn't return this season. (Heroic return for the playoffs?)
  14. You can't let Burnes go another inning with a shorthanded bullpen?
  15. If Renfroe goes on the IL and they don't call up David Dahl it will be a travesty. I'm excited to see what Dahl can do. He has one of the highest upsides of anyone in the entire system and is finally hitting well again. He also favors RHP so is a perfect complement to McCutchen. He might even be our answer in CF if he comes up and hits well. (Yelich-Dahl-Renfroe)
  16. Small has a 5.9 BB/9 in AAA right now. I'm not knocking him by any means, but I think it's clear what he can continue to work on in the minors rather than panic-rushing him to the majors and derailing his current trajectory. Y'all are way too hung up on 2-3 bad relief appearances Lindblom had in 2021. The season before that he had a 3.88 FIP as a starter, and he's been dominating minor league (and Korean league) hitters for five straight years now. Why would we not tap into a potentially valuable asset we have?
  17. I'd rather give Small more development time. We have another guy putting up great numbers at AAA in Lindblom. No reason not to see what we have left in him.
  18. Best start in franchise history, third best record in baseball, and yet literally nobody on the team is drastically overperforming except for Lauer (and even then I think the breakout is real even if the 2.16 ERA is unsustainable). If anything the rest of the roster is just getting warmed up. ?
  19. lol this did feel like a "CC has Hader on his fantasy team" moment. Not sure we needed to use Hader to get Dee Strange-Gordon for the final out.
  20. The Twins signed Buxton to a long, team-friendly extension during the offseason. (And now he's putting up MVP numbers again.) Has to be one of the most unavailable players in baseball.
  21. Thank you! I did not know that. It looks like Hiura's platoon splits are indeed much less settled than I had thought. Some years he has hit RHP much better, but some years LHP.
  22. Anyone else find it weird that there isn't a public source for basic minor league splits in the year 2022? It seems like it would be incredibly easy to implement. There used to be a minor league splits website but it has been defunct for many years. (Actually I think it was set up by the guy who used to moderate the ancient SB Nation Brewers website?)
  23. Only 11.2 IP in the majors across two separate seasons. Not saying I expect him to be great, but he's been consistently decent across a much larger sample in the minors.
