  1. I'll be genuinely outraged if Scherzer wins over Burnes. I would disagree but at least understand if voters docked Burnes for having fewer innings than Wheeler/Buehler, but Scherzer and Burnes have thrown similar innings and Burnes has been significantly better in every way other than ERA/Wins (and even then it is close).
  2. Very true but brewerfan posters have never been able to detect sarcasm without the blue, just the way it is, not going to change now. To be fair there are similar level hot takes posted non-sarcastically on a daily basis on here (e.g. Yelich is the new Chris Davis)
  3. It's too late. He's going to be here a long time, for better or worse. I'm trying not to totally concede yet that the Yelich contract is going to be an albatross, but we're 2 seasons removed from the ink drying on it now. It doesn't look promising. Yelich is still under 30 and he has been not-great-but-fine this season. He's been worth $10 million so far by fWAR in an injury-shortened season. Huge difference between "overpaid" and "albatross."
  4. Tuned out of the game when Woodruff had a perfect game through 3.0 IP. Came back to see posts about whether he has lost his spot on the postseason rotation (?!) I was bracing myself for a lot worse than 6.0 IP, 3 ER, with a sub 1.000 WHIP on the day
  5. Come on, jack. The only Brewer with a higher OBP on the season is Jace Peterson. If you were running this game in a computer sim and wanted to insert the player of your choice with the bases loaded there, Yelich was arguably the best choice even if you are only going off his 2021 stats. Sometimes it's just not our night. (Does anyone actually care if we lose any of these games? I am in zen mode knowing that we are already going to win the division. )
  6. +++1 do you dislike his last names pronunciation or his play while on the brewers more? I have them as equally annoying Most annoying and the salt in the wound is that he was pretty good everywhere else he played. You take a uniformly terrible guy like Yuniesky Betancourt and can't even get mad at him because he's just a lovable goof.
  7. Pretty crazy to think that Wily Peralta was still on the team as recently as 2017. That seems like 15 years ago.
  8. Burnes the only player wearing a Packers jersey? Just give him the $300M extension now.
  9. He has been "babied all year"? Give me a break. Babied compared to Nolan Ryan fifty years ago? There are no longer any workhorse aces in the league like there were even a few years ago. A couple guys this season are barely going to crack 200 IP, whoopdedoo. If Burnes hadn't missed a couple starts with a positive Covid test he would probable be top 10 in IP right now even with the Brewers periodic 6-man rotation.
  10. I'm predicting a CGSO today, because it would just be embarrassing for our #5/6 starter to not end the season with an ERA below 3.00
  11. The BBWAA is far from perfect, but haven't they (as a whole) begrudgingly begun to accept advanced metrics in recent years? Even before tonight, Burnes was a full 2.1 fWAR ahead of Buehler. I actually think Wheeler might be the stiffer competition, since he has so many more IP and the Phillies might squeak into the playoffs.
  12. I mean, a bigger fan milestone is making and winning a WS, which we're much less likely to do without Burnes, or with him ineffective. We are about 1,000 times closer to Burnes pitching a no-hitter in this game than we are from Burnes throwing 125 pitches rather than 115 pitches costing us the World Series.
  13. Dumb call, in my opinion. If you are trying to monitor his pitchcount why let him go 115? Another 10 pitches for a huge fan milestone is not a big difference.
  14. How do they calculate World Series odds, just based on regular season record/runs? I'm not getting my hopes up, the Dodgers still have a ridiculous roster, but you have to think the Brewers roster is uniquely slanted toward doing well in the playoffs. Three elite starters, two elite relievers in the bullpen, excellent defense, and a fairly balanced offense that is spread across a bunch of players rather than centered on one or two MVP candidates who need to have good series.
  15. The question is if there’s another Adames that could be gotten for Houser and Lauer, do you make the trade? (And then who are the potential Adameses?) It’s important to remember what Adames value was at the time of the trade and also his perceived potential/future production. It certainly wasn’t anywhere near a .900 OPS…and maybe in the long run it isn’t that. 99/100 times you aren’t going to make such a trade and have a guy with a .900 OPS playing SS. I’d trade Houser or Lauer for another Adames every day of the week…but for the value that was perceived at the time of that trade…? Not so obvious Absolutely zero question that you should trade a Lauer or a Houser for a pre-trade Adames (setting aside how many years of team control are at issue). Adames had tremendous value at the time of that trade. He was an elite prospect within the last couple years and was excellent as recently as 2020. The Rays panicked and sold low. I don't understand why there are still people trying to rationalize that trade for the Rays. Recent top 15-20 prospect in baseball 2019 WAR per 162 games: 4.2 rWAR, 3.1 fWAR 2020 WAR per 162 games: 6.0 rWAR, 4.5 fWAR
  16. St. Louis Cardinals: "Alright, another win against the Brewers." Dan Vogelbach:
  17. It's a bit late in the season, but can we officially dub our three-headed pitching monster "Crewberus"? (I tried to do something with Cerveceros but just spun around in a circle)
  18. Ohtani is a deserving lock for AL MVP, but did you know that Corbin Burnes is second in the majors in fWAR and first in the NL? He probably won't win NL MVP because he hasn't been an innings workhorse, but he really does deserve it (as of right now).
  19. I believe this was the consensus on Luis Urias coming up as well, and he definitely looks now like a guy who could hit 30 HR at some point in his career.
  20. Urias just turned 24 years old a couple months ago and he is finally showing off again the new tool (game power) that made him an elite prospect in 2019. I think the notion that Urias has hit his ceiling is a bit premature.
