Agree with this... 3 more hitters for Burnes seems like the more appropriate path but I trust Counsell. Doesn't hurt to spread the workload around. We're probably going to want to use Burnes against in not too long.
Keon Broxton career splits: vs LHP: 252 PA, .235/.353/.437, .344 wOBA vs RHP: 546 PA, .215/.294/.414, .304 wOBA Is there anybody on the roster with better numbers against LHP outside of the top-4 in the lineup?
I feel bad for Thames in particular because he played a major role in us racking up early wins, but not surprising given his last two months. I think he's a guy that needs to play everyday to get in a groove, so not much help in the playoffs. Anderson is unusable because you're flipping a coin on whether he gives up 2-3 HR in an inning.
Very happy Broxton made it! I have a feeling he's coming to come up big somehow. Granderson/Santana are basically just pure PH so the fact that they play OF is largely irrelevant.
Why "bullpenning" makes sense: Woodruff career splits 1st time through order as SP: 3.33 ERA 2nd time through order as SP: 7.32 ERA 3rd time through order as SP: 6.17 ERA 1st time through order as RP: 2.16 ERA
I'd much rather keep Schoop than Moustakas, if only because Shaw needs to play somewhere every day. Schoop has enough of a track record that you can't cut him (in his age 27 season) just because he's had a brutal couple months here. He's easily worth $10M if you play the odds.
(Although I'm missing the obvious, which is that Chacin actually had an incredibly effective career in Colorado. No way he's not the starter for the first game in Coors.)
Freddy should start the first game in Colorado, since he's the only strikeout SP on the team and (at least as far as this rotation goes) he's not horrible about giving up HR. Plus his fastball clearly plays up in the Colorado air for whatever reason. I would start Freddy and then (if necessary) do a bullpen game piggybacking Woodruff and Burnes for 5.0-6.0 IP in Colorado to maximize Ka
Miley and Gio deserve to be in the postseason rotation, but the Rockies as a team actually strongly favor LHP. Craig probably won't, but I would go with Freddy to be honest.
The Cubs didn't collapse, they won 95 games. Unfortunately for them the Brewers (and Yelich in particular) went on an absolute tear in September and outplayed them. If we don't end the season 8-0 then the Cubs are waiting the NLDS at Wrigley. I don't think a 2-1 loss in 13 innings against a very strong Rockies team is a failure or collapse. It's the pitfall of a one-game playoff series that they're out.
