  1. There are plenty of innings over the rest of the season for all of the above (most of whom have minor league options remaining), it's not an either-or. The only "hard" roster decision (but a good one to have) comes when we get to our first playoff series. I don't know why people are underrating Norris. He has a .354 BABIP this year, that's not going to continue. Even if you don't want to look at his peripherals this season, last year (in a similar sample size actually) he had a 9.1 K/9, 3.25 ERA, 2.87 FIP. Some people on here like to hate on everything! I guess I could see the disappointment if Norris was supposed to be our "big" trade line acquisition, but he is clearly just an additional weapon to deepen the bullpen, with quite a bit of upside, and we gave up very little to get him.
  2. By contrast, he didn't even make the top 30 on MLB.com in our relatively weak system. So a wide range of opinions (though Fangraphs seems like the outlier...) and I feel confident guessing on which end of that Stearns and company fall. Norris is a former elite prospect, is somehow still only 28, has a 3.54 xFIP this season, and can be relied on to eat a lot of innings without getting fatigued. If you want a candidate for this year's Drew Pomeranz, this is it.
  3. He's still only 26 and got rushed a bit by the Marlins, so I'm still pulling for him and hope he turns it around. But yeah, it hasn't been pretty. I was curious so I looked on Fangraphs: among non-pitchers with at least 700+ PA in their career, Brinson currently has the fifth lowest wOBA of the post-1900 era. Right ahead of fellow top-prospect-bust Brandon Wood. We won the trade no matter what though. Two MVP-caliber seasons for Yelich that carried us to the playoffs? Unless I'm forgetting something obvious, easily the best trade in franchise history.

As far as pizza chains go, Rocky Rococo and Toppers are both quite good imo.
  5. Yelich has played so well that this trade would have been a "win" even if he was a rental and Brinson had been good. The fact that we have Yelich for the entire prime of his career is insane!
  6. Can Brinson be considered a major asset any longer? I know 321 PA is a tiny sample size, but he has just been lost against major league pitching (.228 OBP, 30.8 K%) and he's not crazy young.
  7. This is very cool: Lewis Brinson gets surprised by Juan Pierre
  8. Interesting, though as always when people try to quantify prospect values, those valuations are preposterous.
  9. One thing not mentioned much in this thread is that I think there's a strong possibility Stearns and the front office are internally down on Brinson relative to his external market value as a top-20 prospect. You can't really keep him in AAA any longer, and what if he tanks again over a longer sample size in the majors in 2018? They could strongly believe that they sold Brinson at his peak value.
  10. Yeah well no offense to BF but a lot of the proposals on here tend to not be very realistic. As I said elsewhere in this thread, getting 5 years of Yelich for just two Baseball America Top 100 prospects, only one of which is a Top 50 prospect, is incredible. It's certainly not an overpay. BA rankings are a good way of stepping back to get objective value on players who we as Brewers fans are overfamiliar with and thus overvalue. I wish them all the best, but none of the four are exactly slam-dunk prospects. Brinson looked awful in the majors last year, and it's not like he's a 19-year-old, he's only 2 years younger than Yelich. Diaz was mediocre last year (.710 OPS with 121 K in just 455 PA) despite being old for his level prospect-wise (21 in A+) Harrison and Yamamoto were both fairly mediocre prior to last year, and although Harrison had a great year he was also comparatively old for A/A+ Yelich was already an above-average player in the major leagues by the time he was 21, and we have him for five years in his prime.
  11. The fact that the Brewers made a serious offer for Yelich and the fact that the trade went through were both broken elsewhere. Thus, I'm afraid to say, you must remain hatless. Thanks for the fun over the last few days though, whether any of it was true or not Alright HH, willing to chip in for your hat and pen now.
  12. I would be stunned if they didn't add starting pitching. Well they already added a decent guy, Chacin. I guess the question is whether they sign one of the "big 4" free agents left (Darvis, Arreita, Lynn, Cobb), and since Darvish isn't coming here I hope the answer to the other three is no.
  13. I don't think they're going to add a SP because I think for the first time in my living memory we have a competent GM who realizes a guy like Lance Lynn is not going to be good value. Yelich is a player who upgrades the team now in case the Brewers are competitive in 2018, and who also helps us 2-3 years from now when our top SP prospects (who were kept out of the trade package) start hitting their stride in the majors. 2020 Lineup C Pina 1B Braun 2B Hiura 3B Shaw SS Arcia LF Phillips CF Yelich RF Santana SP Nelson SP Hader SP Woodruff SP Burnes SP Ortiz SP Anderson SP Davies

  15. Getting five years of a player like Yelich for just two top 100 prospects (#18 and #75) is incredible. I think we all are overly attached and thus overvalue prospects like Diaz or Harrison. Great deal. Marlins remain incompetent.
