I am truly optimistic that could happen. they've got 33 games vs below .500 teams, if they win 2 of 3 it would be 22 wins. they've got 12 against the pirates, if they win like they have over the last 5 years, thats at least another 9 wins. that puts them at 71 wins. if they win 1 of 3 of the rest of the 32 games, thats another 11 wins, that puts them at 82 win.

my understanding is that your draft budget reflects the number of picks you have in each of the first 10 rounds. so if you have 3 1st rd picks, 2 nd rd picks your budget will be higher than someone who has just one in each round. its determined by the slot money for each pick you have

an average of 2-3 wouldnt be hard, some series the brewers arent going to win... but if they crush the pirates as they have in the past, that'll make up for losing a series or two or three elsewhere.

When there is a team or two doing it every single year, someone needs to learn the definition of "miracle." It'd hardly be a "miracle," for a team 6 games out at the ASB in a division that's hardly the best in the game(Arguably the worst) and behind a team that hasn't been .500 in 20 years to get hot when they have the talent this team has and make a run. Someone also needs to read a little closer. I'm not "basing any hopes," I'm providing precedence. As in nearly every year a talented team makes a FAR bigger and far more impressive comeback than the Brewers. Not to mention in reading my post, there were a number of other variables. Fiers success, the possibility of Thornburg stabilizing the pen which I think is a pretty good bet, Weeks hitting very well as of late, Ramirez doing what he does every year and now getting back on pace to put up the numbers he puts up every year, Marcum coming back, having Greinke, Gallardo atop the rotation. And then the "if," comes with Axford and K-Rod returning to last years form. And if they do this in the next month or so coming out of the break and get to .500 and are right in the thick of things, this is their last legitimate chance to contend. One shutdown BP arm along with Axford and K-Rod changes the complexion of this team 100 pct. So if you think that's a "miracle," and equal to winning one million dollars, you've missed an awful lot of baseball the last 10 years especially. Not to mention the extra wild card spot. I REALLY like that these picks are tradable. I think thats the one thing that bothers me about MLB draft, that the picks are not allowed to be traded. at least this is a start, and its an extra bargaining chip prior to the deadline, and you wouldnt be losing a player you actually like.

DM and RR have said that the next 9 games will determine if they buy or sell, so for the next 2 weeks, I can understand not starting a guy who has never played at the MLB level before for two guys who at least have hit the ball. It may not be much, but as we saw in Conrad, just because you can hit in AAA doesnt mean you can hit in the majors. Then why call him up right now? Let him play down in AAA and continue to develop as a young player, then bring him up in 2 weeks. 2 more weeks of AAA isnt going to develop him any further than he is currently. might as well let him start to see MLB innings and workouts now, and move him into a more steady position if he picks up on it.

I wish people would quit hoping for this scenario. It's extremely rare for it to happen in modern MLB. Greinke could go to the Rangers, help them win the World Series, and decide he's perfectly happy in Arlington. I would say that's a more likely scenario. I wish people would stop raining on my parade

why would the brewers trade for upton, in a position they have depth in, when the real need is bullpen help? this would be straight up stupid.

also, I think hart is a bad example of this because of the depth the brewers have at AAA in OF, and Gamel/Green in IF. if Weeks or Gonzalez (had he never been hurt) been the piece up for trade, i'd say it would be harder to justify taking a huge offer for them since the depth behind them in AAA/AA is pretty thin

The point is Melvin could have an idea that Hart is worth fill in the blank to me on the trade market but I don't think a team will offer that or whatever his reasoning is. The problem is what if a team loses an outfielder or 1st baseman and doesn't have a replacement and will go above what Melvin thinks Hart is worth? If you go out and say this player isn't available, the GM may just pass on Hart without even asking because Melvin said he wasn't available. If I was a GM, I would never say any player wasn't available. It makes no sense to do so. Yeah, chances are you're never going to get an offer for Braun that you would never accept but you never know. thats only half of the point, the other half is, does Melvin believe he has the chance to replace Hart in the offseason with the money available, or immediately from within the system. Its not just about taking an offer that far exceeds your wants for a player, its also what are the chances to replace Hart with as good/better of a player to bide until the pieces below in AAA/AA/A are ready?

This should be true of every player at any given time. Why limit your options? My car isn't for sale, but if you offer me double the blue book, I'm going to hand you the keys. yeah, but you can then just go use that money and put it towards a better, newer car, whereas, theres no actual guarantee that the brewers could get a better, newer player to replace someone like hart.
