  1. What we really need is for Arcia to hit .330 down to San Antonio for a couple months next year. Then he'd be a future superstar! A true, natural hitter! To believe one of the WORST hitters in baseball will hit or even defend as well as Iglesias is the “crazy” thought, then you have the bad baseball IQ, you know the “Villar” effect, that can’t be qualified analytically that brings him down even further. Arcia is such a terrible hitter(outside of the playoffs)he’d be lucky to hit .285 in the PCL. Which, as you know is 100 points lower than Grisham or Freitas hit there. Oh, and the both of them(Grisham,Freitas)are actually pinch hitting at about the same rate 1-12. At some point moving forward, this site, you know, the 96% of which said the brewers weren’t going on a run in September, even though Stearns/Counsell the last 2 September’s dominated their competition, will realize how foolish they were again with regards to Freitas. It won’t be this year, you can thank his injury and Grandal for that. You fired Stearns already. You have no legs to stand on with anyone around here. Give it a rest.
  2. That’s exactly what I was thinking. Arcia moves to the backup role and gets one more year to show some type of improvement without needing to be “the guy”. If he shows nothing in 2020, he is gone. If he shows some improvement, you now have two good options at short and increased depth on your bench. And you have two guys on your roster that have only played SS in their careers.

  4. That's a good point. I guess I was just assuming that when people say they want Arcia replaced, they want him completely off the team. I never even really considered that he could be kept in a theoretically platoon situation or part-time role. I'm just worried about spending millions on another bad player. If you are going to keep Arcia in a spot like that, he's going to play SS. He has never played another position in the majors and rarely played anything else in the minors. He played a bit of 2B. So he's not a Perez-type player. If you end up signing someone, Arcia is probably gone. Unless you trade for a guy like Villar who can play other positions when Arcia is playing SS because Iglesias doesn't play other positions other than SS either.

  6. Exactly! Arcia obviously has a lower floor than Iglesias, but he offers a higher ceiling as well. It's risky to dump a guy who is 25 and has yet to reach his theoretical prime for a guy who may be already past his. 2 pea’s in a pod, choosing to die on a really odd hill. Talk about me doubling down! Odd hill? We believe Arcia entering his prime will be what Iglesias is. That isn't a crazy thought, and you should know a crazy thought, you have plenty of them.

  8. I didn't argue it. I am saying I believe he is more of the 1.4 or better guy than not. I did not argue that he has had a rough season or seasons for that matter. But he is now entering his prime and I don't want to shuffle that off for a guy that isn't that great who would be replacing him.
  9. Most teams actually have a good SS these days. The days of SS being a weak position are long long gone. Most competing teams I would say have a reliable starter, many have an elite guy...probably have a second guy way better than Arcia to boot. Per Fangraphs (300 PA min.) 9 - 4+ WAR SS 13 - 3+ WAR SS 20 - 2+ WAR SS 26 - 1.5+ WAR SS So there were 26 guys 3x better than Arcia this year. Yeah, I get that Arcia has had a rough season but Iglesias is a 1.4 WAR which is about where I see Arcia as a player on a normal year. It makes me not want to "upgrade" the position if that is what we are paying for. We would literally be going from the 25th WAR player at SS to the 23rd. If we are comparing them offensively, Arica has had some pretty awful luck this year. Yes, he can be a really ugly batter but his BABIP is .247 (his lowest of his career and 50 points lower than his previous 2 seasons) compared to Iglesias at .310 (which is his highest of his career). Arica is also walking 8.2% of the time compared to just 3.4% in Iglesias. While Iglesias has struck out 13.4% of the time, Aricia is at 20.3% which is still good. The numbers just don't make me want to bail on Arica for this guy. If it were a better option, I'd think I would be on board. But with other positions needing to be maintained or seeking upgrades, I think Arcia is probably the best route to go. At least until July and then you can assess the market on a trade if Arcia hasn't figured it out.
  10. If Iglesias is the only option out there worth a darn, it's probably not going to come as cheap as some seem to want it to be. Considering what most teams are trotting out at SS, there will be a competition that drives that price.
  11. Could have been a garbage deal...say 3/$30mil or so. When he declines the option he pretty much made $18mil in a single year. Possibly. Doubt it, but possibly. Either way, it's still more money than he's making for the Brewers.
  12. My wife and I love the Goldbergs and we have taken to the sequel of Schooled as well.
  13. I always hate it when people talk about players “wanting to stay”. They play for money so whomever offers the most money usually gets the player. Just today, Yelich said he’d like to be a Brewer forever, but “the business side has to work out” ie the money has to be right. Pro ball players are a fraternity and when you’re a 1%er living in the lap of luxury the members of the fraternity you go to work with and the city you work in 90 days a year are less important than the money. Grandal could improve at least a half dozen clubs with aims of contending in 2020. It will be tough winning a bidding war for him. I can picture Moustakas coming back but whomever loses out on Josh Donaldson would surely engage Moustakas as a fall back option Grandal had at least one multi-year deal on the table but chose Milwaukee. It doesn't ALWAYS just come down to the dollars although I agree that often it does.
  14. Woody- 4, Suter- 3, Pom- 1, Hader- 1 and we move on.
  15. I’m hoping they continue to drop so I can snag cheap tickets and drive up to the game.
  16. 17 games over .500 (87-70) and are one win away from a playoff spot. With that win, the 2019 Brewers move into a tie for 9th place in regular season wins tying the 1983 and 1988 teams respectively. With 3 more wins, they would tie a 3-seasons best record of averaging 90 wins. With 4, it will be the most successful run in Brewers history. Amazing what El Cheapo Attanasio and Dumbo Counsell are pulling off.
  17. Numbers don’t always match up with what’s going on. He’s given up inherited runs and hasn’t looked sharp. Hader hasn’t allowed an inherited runner to score in September, so this is not accurate. Well, it just happened in his last appearance sooooo... yeah.
  18. Yikes. Tough crowd. In his last 7 appearances he has 14 Ks, 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Numbers don’t always match up with what’s going on. He’s given up inherited runs and hasn’t looked sharp.
  19. Hader not sharp again. Need him to figure it out as we push forward.
  20. Gamel you are here for at bats like that. Do your damn job or you’re easily replaceable.
  21. I’ll give Joe Madison credit for recognizing what the Brewers were a season ago. He was telling people how good we were before things really clicked. I’m sure he’s a good baseball mind but I want him no where near the Brewers.
  22. I wonder if they were working with him on what they wanted from him because that was odd at the time.
  23. Not having Braun here is ridiculous.
  24. Not a fan of lifting Braun from this game. Sure hope we don’t need more offense.
