Just not sure where all these outfielders are going to play. Only two spots open with Niewenhuis a lock for one of the three spots. Possibly could really see Braun moved this winter.
It'll be interesting to see his final stat line. He's trending down with the average as of late and all of a sudden that OBP is looking atrocious again. I agree as a super bench player that he will be perfect. Thinking he's a starter might be fools gold.
Game one is in Appleton, Wednesday, Sept. 7th. They are playing game 2 in Cedar Rapids on the 8th, and if the 3rd game is necessary, that one will also be in Cedar Rapids September 9th... Thank you. Definitely going Thurdsay.
I think his ceiling is that of a guy not unlike Aoki, only he's much younger. Aoki's been a valuable piece for good teams. I think the 34-year old version of Aoki isn't too far off, but Aoki showed a lot more power when he was younger. Aoki hit 40+ doubles and double digit HRs in Japan, while Wren has five HRs for his minor league career. Maybe Juan Pierre lite would be a better example?
To be fair, Albert's 32 year old season might've been his 42 year old season. You never know. Ryan Braun could still be taking some good PEDs and ready to miss an entire year. Your turn. Point is there are many examples of guys who fall off a cliff in their 30s. Even more that decline due to chronic injuries. It's no sure thing for Braun, but enough where teams clearly don't think $80mil is worth the risk at this point. I guess I should've used blue as what I said was no quite as obviously sarcastic as I thought it was. Either way Braun is king of baseball and will always hit! (Does that need to be blue also?)
I'm with you there. Obviously none of us know the situation Stearns has in front of him with the possible trades but I will be a little disappointed if he doesn't turn one of these pretty good bullpen arms into another lottery ticket.
I also go Hader/Diaz. Like someone mentioned above, Hader was so dominant in AA for half the season and struck out a lot of batters in a not so ideal situation in Colorado. Diaz gets my pick because he was superb pretty much all season long.
I think Brinson has a chance to be the opening day CF if he comes up in September and hits the ball well. Then goes on to continue hitting in spring training. They may not have a choice but to let him be the CF if he continues to hit.
The thing about the 40 man that I hate to even try to predict is who is going to be available from other teams. That might go a long way into who is added to it from the Brewers stand point.
Braun's ability to hit while injured has to do with how awesome he really is. I actually think it might help his as he's getting older and the bat slows a bit. He has developed one of the prettiest swings to the opposite field I have ever seen. It's not that he just can hit the other way but he hits it with authority. Line drive ropes that whiz past the infield. And with little effort in the swing. Sometimes with pitches 2-3 inches off the plate. It is something that very few can do and still be able to yank a ball 400+ft to your pull side. Even with the young pups on their way up in the next 1-3/4 years, he might still be the best hitter on this team at that time. That's how good he is. I just hope I'm right assuming that he's on the trend up with injuries. I can understand being on the other side but I think he's trending up.
I like that you think outside the box as it brings in new, sometimes a little crazy, ideas. And I mean that with no disrespect. I just don't see a move to first base at the age of 25 when he has shows more athletic ability than most. I am in the camp of moving Gennett and allowing Villar to focus solely on playing second base. No reps anywhere else but at 2B. I think that part of his problem defensively has been he's been moved around so much and never had a chance to settle in anywhere. I don't think 3B is the best option for him and feel that getting him at 2B shortens that throw but still allows him to use his range up the middle like a shortstop.
