  1. No. Keep him as a starter one more year.
  2. Phillips doesn't look like he'll be ready to man CF in 2017. I'd see if Villar could play there until Phillips or someone else like Ray is ready.
  3. To gauge Stearns' success in May of his first season is ludicrous. Ideally, his success would be judged against what his expectations were in making the deals. And no posters are likely to know what his expectations were. Ultimately, the Brewers organization will succeed or fail based primarily on its drafting, signing international prospects, and developing the young talent. Most of Stearns' trades thus far are playing the percentages: Acquire as much young talent as you can get, with the expectation that many, if not most, will not become MLB stars. To evaluate trade by trade is an iffy proposition, at best, especially when there are three months left in the minor league schedules. Since much of the talent acquired is quite young, their careers are harder to project.
  4. Stearns might want to take some time to actually see these minor league guys play, which he's had a limited opportunity, at best. I wouldn't conclude that this exhibits his overall philosophy.
  5. A "roll the dice" (or "roll your eyes") deal. Two Dominicans and a Brazilian from Japan with a mending flipper. Won't know if this was a clunker trade for several years.
  6. No. What's the point? Lohse will have little value anyway and you risk screwing up your young pitchers. Put him in the bullpen or releasse him.
  7. Surprised, but enthused. Wagner has been consistently good at each level of the minors. While it's uncommon, bringing up a AA pitcher, it is not unheard of. He's been the best starter they've had in the minors this year and last, too. Besides, they most likely view him as a short-term starter while Peralta recovers, and when he's sent back down it will be to AAA.
  8. It's been implied but not simply stated here. Leal was a catcher in college. The Brewers tried him as a pitcher because he threw 94mph. This is a move back to his natural position, not a conversion. Pitching was the conversion.
  9. Not sure what qualifies Molitor as a manager. I've always thought that Selig, in not signing Molitor in free agency, exploited the situation primarily to illustrate how a small market team couldn't keep one of its best, core players.
  10. I would fire myself and hire Mike Girsch, Asst. GM of the Cardinals.
  11. SP: Lohse, Gallardo, Garza, Peralta, Estrada LR: Smith, Figaro MR: Wang, Gorzellany, Rodriguez SU: Kintzler CL: Henderson OF: Davis, Gomez, Braun, Schafer IF: Ramirez, Segura, Weeks, Francisco, Reynolds, Herrera, Bianchi C: Lucroy, Maldonado Thornburg and Gennett should be starting in AAA unless/until they're needed. If Gorzellany goes on DL, 12th pitcher is undecided.
  12. No, I would not. To me he's a #3 starter that wouldn't be hard to replace at much lower $$.
  13. They have too many good young players to blow it up. On the other hand, I agree that competing in their division the next couple years will be tough. I would move older players for the right deals and I would certainly be disinclined to add big veteran contracts. Put more money in amateur scouting. I also agree that they need to do a better job scouting and drafting pitchers. Jungmann and Bradley are a prime example if not getting much bang for the buck. Nevertheless, I think they've made some improvement that way under Seid. They also need to do a better job identifying Latin American players and maybe going after a really good one every 3-4 years.
  14. Glad to see somebody knows the meaning of "ditto." (Someone tell rush limbaugh and his cronies, please!) I don't think they'll make a major move for the seeming lack of interest by buyers. Lohse could be of interest to somebody now but maybe more next winter.
  15. It depends on your definition of "competing." I can't see them being better than the Cards, Reds, or Pirates in 2014. Yet they could have a competitive team. My thinking is that if Melvin is smart enough to see it that way, he'll still have to convince Attanasio. The first inkling we'll get is if they make a big deal or two before the trading deadline. My gut tells me they won't. Somebody has to really want the players you're looking to sell. What you would think their marketable players such as Ramirez, Gallardo or Lohse are clouded respectively with injury/age, performance and high salary issues. A variety of bullpen guys can be marketed, but won't get a top return to put their 2014 prospects above the top three in the division.
  16. They're screwed this year by injuries, both on the field and in trades. The trouble is, three teams in their division are better than them, given their starting pitching situation. They really can't rebuild because, unlike the Marlins, they care about their fan base. Given that, they need to let Corey go his way. They have Schafer to fill in the OF and move Braun to 1B if Morris, Gamel or Francisco don't pan out. Maybe his money could land a middlin' starter.
  17. In RF. He has a strong arm. He can run a little and catch a ball. His problem at 3B was his throws, which was apparently due to his footwork. OF throws are obviously different and the footwork less complicated. RF is the opening now. This is a business and the Crew could use his LH bat if he can stay healthy and get it going!
  18. Get you're best guys on the field. I would do as the guy above suggested-play Lucroy at 1B where there is less stress and danger to his hand. Almost any catcher CAN play 1B. Let him catch one or two games a week. Hart to RF; Aoki to CF. Kottaras isn't a terribly important piece of the puzzle-so it's between him and a sixth IF. Wolf is a FA after 2012 and isn't a good enough pitcher to warrant a personal catcher.
  19. I wouldn't be averse to shopping Weeks and giving Green a whack at it. I would require value in return. This team needs to cure structural problems in the system-lack of LH power and a good shortstop.
  20. The premise of shopping Gallardo was if they could re-sign Greinke ASAP. Marcum has to rely on command rather than great stuff. #3 is my evaluation of him on a good pitching staff adn #4 on a great staff. I'd get rid of both him and Gallardo to keep Greinke. FYI-I've closely followed MLB since the Braves in 1957. I just want people to think about things a bit differently. This team ain't goin' nowhere right now.
  21. I'd like to see them try their best to re-sign Greinke. He's the only true number 1 starter they have. Gallardo is a #2-3 due to inconsistency and Marcum is a #3-4. I'd rather re-sign Greinke at a high but do-able contract and trade Gallardo, despite his favorable contract. Our minor league pitching talent has no #1 starters, but there are a lot of 2-3-4 candidates, some of whom will be ready in a year or two.
