  1. That was me. But I'm pretty sure he will make the Mets 25 man!
  2. I wouldn't call Gray a "reclamation project." He's a good pitcher--when he's not pitching in Yankee Stadium. Thankfully the Brewers don't play their home games at Yankee Stadium.
  3. I'm not an easy man to please but I'd be good with Dozier on a one year deal.
  4. Yes, he's so ready to contribute at the major league level they didn't even bother to shop him for something more than possible veteran minimum salary relief they might get now that he's been released. Or perhaps they shopped him and had no offers. The Jays' actions speak much louder than their post-release statements.
  5. Then they will not have the ability financially to upgrade at C or SP this offseason, because Lowrie will sign for a zobrist-like AAV for at least 3 seasons. Getting him to agree to a shorter term contract means paying an even higher premium. If you're good with that, great - I think the Brewers are better served to upgrade at C or SP, and paying market rate for Lowrie isn't going to give you that much more value on the field than what a league minimum tulo would provide. Heck, a perez/spangenberg platoon makes more sense than doling out $15m more to Lowrie with the current roster they have, without factoring in Dubon or hiura at all. 1) I'm tired of hearing about penny pinching. If M.A. can't afford to sign someone like Lowrie and another starting pitcher he needs to sell the team to someone who will spend the money to get a team to the World Series. I'm not asking for Harper or Machado or anyone even remotely that expensive. 2) No one knows if Tulo can even play anymore. The Jays ate his $38 million owed for a reason.
  6. If you're pinning your 2019 2B hopes on any of Hiura, Dubon, or Tulowitzki--you have a problem. I want the Brewers to spend their dollars on a real solution at 2B - Jed Lowrie.
  7. If that happens the Brewers will be glad they signed Jed Lowrie.
  8. Stearns is looking for a quality one year stopgap 2B for 2019. I don’t think he wants to rely on Hiura this season if he can help it.
  9. Keon is out of options so he is either with the Brewers or with another organization... Keon will make the 25 man out of ST. Gamel will not.
  10. They're rebuilding and wanted younger players to play and didn't want a malcontent in the locker room whining about playing time? Under that scenario if he had value they would have eaten much of his contract and traded him. Instead they ate everything except possibly veteran minimum if someone else signs him to kick the tires. I don't blame teams for being interested in Tulo at veteran minimum. But to think you can just pencil him in as a starter is foolish. He's just a lottery ticket.
  11. To anyone who thinks Tulo can be a starting quality infielder in 2019 ask yourself this: Why did the Jays just burn $38 million to get the guy out of town? I will be shocked if Tulo provides a positive WAR to any team this year.
  12. My issue with going cheap on 2B in 2019 is that this is the one position the Brewers can really improve from the 2018 season. I don't want to see that opportunity squandered with a bargain basement platoon and a hope that people get better.
  13. He was. But he would also have been involved in trading away Josh Hader.
  14. Being able to spray to all fields negates shifts. That's a nice trait to have as Yelich showed. He's also hit lefties pretty well so is still useful in PH role. Santana hits bombs. Santana > Gamel
  15. Career MLB: Santana - 113 wRC+ Gamel - 100 wRC+ And Santana is a year younger. Yes. Santana is a better hitter than Gamel. Mostly on account of his massive edge in power. His power is the loudest tool involved in the deal. At the same time, his inability to make contact is also the biggest red flag involved in the deal. That is a mitigating factor. When you consider that Gamel has a much better hit/contact tool & is a better baserunner/fielder, that makes up for a fair amount of that 13 point wRC+ edge. Add in that being lefty, costing less & having an option makes him a better fit for the roster, plus the fact he's outperformed Domingo as recently as last year, and then throw in a pitching prospect the FO clearly likes & I guess it's just hard for me to quantify that as basically nothing. I will agree with you that my use of the phrase "basically nothing" was misguided. I'll walk that back. I still don't like the deal because I like having Santana in the hole in case the Brewers are bitten by the injury bug in the outfield and I think over a longer period of time he will prove more valuable than Gamel. For the record, I do like Stearns a lot.
  16. Career MLB: Santana - 113 wRC+ Gamel - 100 wRC+ And Santana is a year younger.
  17. This deal made the Brewers a worse team. I hope the OF has a healthy 2019 because the team just lost someone who could play a starting quality corner outfield if injury put him in the lineup every day.
  18. What would you consider to be a more fragrant return for Domingo? I'd rather keep Santana* than give him away for basically nothing. The only people who will think this was good deal are Stearns worshippers. Edit - *Santana not Santiago. Watched A Few Good Men too many times.
  19. You guys have a lot of faith that someone who has played a grand total of 96 games above Class A ball (and not one game at the AAA level) is going to be significant contributor in 2019. I won't be surprised if Hiura spends all of 2019 in AAA.
  20. I think Stearns has lined up a cheap plan B so he's not boxed into overpaying for a really good 2B. I'm certain plan A is to sign a higher quality 2B for 2019 than what the Brewers currently have on their roster.
  21. ?? His money is already guaranteed. So he will pick a team that lets him play SS or is his geographical preference where he wants to live/play. Money will no longer play a role in where he goes, he already has Toronto's money, and he won't get any more. In essence he is playing for free if he decides to play. The quote from ThisIsMyCrew was based on a rumor that Tulo threatened to retire if the Jays moved him off SS. If he retired he would not get the $38 million.
  22. Then again teams make mistakes all the time......you just never know. There are a ton more instances of teams signing a player who is cooked hoping they can turn the clock back to an earlier and more productive time than teams that cut a player loose too soon. I'm not saying the Brewers should have no interest in Tulo--just don't expect anything from him.
  23. I wouldn't put much hope in a Tulo resurgence. The Blue Jays ate $38 million on his contract for a reason. He needs to go to a team with zero expectations that he will be a significant contributor.
  24. Good. I did not want him here. And certainly not at that money. If the Brewers overspend at 2B I want it to be for Jed Lowrie.
