  1. They traded for Machado because Corey Seager was injured. Since Seager will be back in 2019 to play SS and they have Justin Turner to play 3B they don't need Machado at all.
  2. Did I miss Wade Miley signing elsewhere?
  3. He is a credible writer. What do you not like about it? Since you asked. Article titled, “How the Milwaukee Brewers are spending like a large market team.” Should be titled, “Brewers invest their limited funds in ways different than most teams.” I’ll cut the writer some slack because maybe he doesn’t write his own headlines. Crying poor? How does the writer conflate fiscal responsibility with “crying poor”? Ludicrous. No normally big spending team is crying poor. The best part of the article is atribbutable to Eno Sarris. Reaping “major profits”? When did Mark Attanasio ever say his goal was to reap “major” profits? I’m sure he doesn’t want to lose a ton of money but I’ve never heard M.A. say his goal is reap major profits with the team. What? This statement is insane. Exploitation is targeting players you can afford that can play better than other teams think? Again, an insane supposition. I would expect an article like this in the Huffington Post or MSNBC website.
  4. Terrible, opinion-riddled article. Is this a credible writer? I regret having clicked on the article.
  5. It's a team that signed Eric Hosmer to an 8/$144m deal. I'd say any ill-advised move is on the table for them.
  6. I like Stearns a lot but this trade is a head scratcher. But maybe I over-value #39 draft picks.
  7. If you are limiting yourself to one year, then you very well are probably not targeting the best 2B. So you are probably contradicting yourself. I think a lefty bat to platoon with Perez would be enough to get through to Hiura. Sign Murphy one year and trade away Thames. I'm saying the best they can get on a one year deal. What I'm not in favor of is waiting until March for the one who doesn't have a deal so we can get him on the cheap.
  8. Put me the camp of not wanting someone "cheap and serviceable." The Brewers were on the cusp of the World Series and the most significant way they can improve for 2019 is to get better production out of 2B. I'd like the Brewers to target their guy and get him. That said, I'd prefer it be a one year deal with the expectation that Hiura can take over in 2020. I would overpay to get a one year deal if necessary.
  9. I'd like either Brian Dozier or Ian Kinsler on a one year deal. I could live with Daniel Murphy on a one year deal if David Stearns personally visited me and convinced me that their positioning metrics would turn him into a non-terrible defender at second. I'm not interested in any 2B's on a two (or more) year deal.
  10. I turn Farrell off the moment I hear his voice. Like fingernails on a blackboard for me. I have no idea if he's interesting or not.
  11. He has a bunch of double digit negative DRS seasons. I think that qualifies as "terrible." In his defense I would not classify him as "the worst fielding second baseman ever."
  12. I haven't listened to Rome in years but whenever I think of Toby in Houston (Larry Brown's Crank) and Carl in Rosemead (Boner in Sweatpants) I laugh out loud. Also the guy who called in to take Romey to task for promoting cockfighting to kids.
  13. Teams don't release players with $38 million remaining on their contracts for no reason. Pass.
  14. I think he's going to get something like 5 for $75-85m. No way the Brewers are sniffing anything close to that. And for good reason.
  15. Czaban's full national show used to run in the Madison market when I lived there in the mid-90's. I think it was part of the One on One sports radio network. I loved it. It seemed to be the right mix of serious and funny. I don't listen to Bob & Brian so I've never heard Czabe on their show.
  16. Care to elaborate? His bat is seemingly what this lineup is currently missing. Defense may be an issue, but I'll chalk up his bad defense last year to coming off an injury. He showed last year that while his bat may not be what it was during his prime run with the Nationals, he's still very dangerous. He also hasn't had drastic splits vs RHP and LHP up until last year, so hopefully last year was an an outlier. Personally I'd prefer LeMahieu or Marwin Gonzalez, but it is quite possible that those two are either too expensive or are seeking too long of a contract. That leaves the Brewers choosing from guys like Murphy and Dozier. Brutal defense. No thanks.
  17. David Stearns doesn't strike me as the guy who pays "closer" money for a relief pitcher.
  18. Glad that's not the Brewers signing.
  19. Hard no on Murphy.
  20. I hope the Brewers play zero Sunday night games. Edit - in the regular season.
  21. If I could get Dozier on a 1 year deal I'd do that in a heartbeat. I suspect he's going to get a multi-year deal though.
  22. The good FA 2B's are going to get multi-year deals and I'd prefer to get a quality one year bridge for Hiura.
  23. Ken Rosenthal reported earlier today that the Reds are interested in moving Scooter Gennett. A later report said they were not "actively shopping" him. Which is code for "sure we're shopping him but don't want to lose our leverage in negotiations." Depending on the trade pieces involved I'd be very interested in bringing Scooter back for one year (there's one more year of control before free agency). I'm not as optimistic as many that Keston Hiura will be a key contributor in 2019 and this would give him another year to develop his defensive chops in the minors. While there are quality 2B's on the FA market, I'd prefer not to go more than one year on any of them and the better 2B's are going to get multi-year deals.
  24. Baines being elected to the Hall of Fame is insane. It will need to be renamed the "Hall of Pretty Good."
  25. I would take Nelson out of the projected rotation until we actually know he can still pitch.
