  1. That's the point, you don't know. Shaw will make Rickie Weeks look like Roberto Alomar. This will be a disaster. However, I'm coming around to the idea that Stearns will be trading Shaw so I'll settle down for now.
  2. Please share your notes on those pregame fielding drills you were lucky enough to attend. That's awesome that you have such good access. Which member of the Brewers organization are you again? I know Shaw can't play passable defense at 2B because he's never played there in professional baseball. There's a reason guys take thousands of reps in the minors at their intended position.
  3. If baseball reference is correct, Shaw has never played a single game at 2B in either the minors or the majors.
  4. Unless Shaw is getting traded for a stud SS or 2B who isn't a rental, this is an incredibly dumb move. But maybe Stearns is messing with us like Gutekunst did trading back in the first and then moving back up to get the guy he wanted in the first place.
  5. This is a completely stupid move. Shaw can't play 2B. I can't believe Stearns would pull this crap.
  6. The "pitcher changed his arm slot and now he's pitching great" stories are as common as spring training "he's in the best shape of his life" stories. I certainly hope Soria pitches great for the rest of the season but I'm not going to pop any champagne corks over a recent 22 inning stretch.
  7. Soria is not a "lights out" reliever. He's a 34 year old having a good season, coming off decent but not great seasons in 2016 and 2017. This is a disappointing end to the Brewers career of a former 1st round pick (and 12th overall).
  8. You cannot have too many quality starting pitchers--especially ones that are cost controlled and young.
  9. I'd like Jose Iglesias. He won't cost much, has a good glove, and should put up a 85-90 OPS+, which will be an improvement over the garbage the Brewers have gotten out of the SS spot in the lineup this year.
  10. That's exactly why I don't read Deadspin. Ever. I long ago decided to skip websites that engage in juvenile rumor-mongering littered with potty language.
  11. Jared Hughes was the guy I wanted to keep (and the price would have been reasonable). He's putting up a 1.50 ERA, 1.125 WHIP in 48 innings in Cincy. That said, the bullpen has been strong so the loss is not that significant.
  12. Logjam starting to build up with upper level SPs with not much for open spots: Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff, Houser, Derby ( prob would get a shot in many clubs) Wilkerson.... Ortiz, Brown, Medeiros, Diplan, Ponce (still around not doing much though) & Supek.... Not all those guys are going to pitch for Brewers. If it takes Phillips & Ortiz to get Machado who is having MVP season on awful team to help an offense that has tendency to go dead... I think that’s fine. Still more left if we wanted to attack stud, controllable SP. Cubs are going to come roaring soon.... we need weapons if we want to be for real. Phillips & Ortiz don’t hurt us in future with no spot for them coming up. There's no such thing as a logjam at starting pitcher.
  13. I do not want Manny Machado. The Brewers do not have the luxury of giving away top prospects for rentals.
  14. Brad Miller continues to show he isn't the present or future at SS. Glad they sent him to AAA to prove how horrible he is there. I actually would love if the Brewers give up any hope of him playing SS and just have Miller replace Sogard on the roster. The Brewers can just do what they did yesterday with Perez at SS until/if they get an actual upgrade at SS. What's funny about this is that Perez has extremely similar career defensive numbers to Miller, with Miller being superior in some metrics like UZR/150. Yet no one is freaking out about Perez playing SS. There is a big difference between filling in at SS and being the starter. I hope neither Miller nor Perez make many starts at SS. The Brewers need a real SS.
  15. I don't think Arcia is a lost cause. But the Brewers shouldn't waste any more plate appearances on him this year. Trade for competent stop-gap for 2018 and send Arcia to AAA to get himself right. And by competent stop-gap I don't mean DFA flunkies who can't truly play the position at a MLB-level (I'm looking at you Brad Miller).
  16. If I was the GM I'd trade for Jose Iglesias of the Tigers. He can hold down SS for the remainder of 2018 and they can send Arcia down to AAA to work on his hitting in a lower stress environment. Iglesias is an elite defender and his bat, while nothing special, is a great improvement over the black hole that is Arcia in the lineup right now.
  17. It’s a terrible package. Don’t waste your money.
  18. I'm more concerned about Jimmy Nelson's career than his season. Shoulder injuries can be a death warrant for pitchers. Much more career threatening than an elbow injury. There's no guarantee he comes back to form. Ever.
  19. Sophia seems like a real nice gal.
  20. I think they should adopt the NFL schedule to make sure players are rested. 4 preseason games and 16 regular season games. One game per week. I'd be OK if they included a bye week as well to ensure good health.
  21. I'm going to guess he's out at least 6 weeks.
  22. If I was a pitcher in this scenario I would inform the ump that I'm going to throw at the batter. Then toss a 70 mph fastball at the batter's head (I assume the batter will be able to get out of the way and not actually get hit since I already warned him it was coming). Instant ejection. No injury, no messed up stat line. Then the replacement pitcher gets as many pitches as he wants to get warmed up.
