  1. I hadn't really followed prospects until 2011/2012. Missing out on Mike Trout in a fantasy league, shown me I need to some homework on prospects, plus more info has been given then they were just a few years ago on them. The guy I was pumped up about was Jeff D'Amico. His curveball, just a pitch I love when it's so Hammer like. 1 Year wonder though
  2. The team has Platoon type players. So the batting order is going to be shuffled up quite a bit. It'd be one thing if the first 5 guys in the lineup had similar splits, similar batting profiles to go consistent with a lineup. You look at Gomez, Lucroy, Braun being it though. Maybe Segura a little. Davis is down so that requires Parra/Peterson to play instead. RHP/LHP you gotta play the splits then too. Since Peterson/Parra are both Lefty bats they will drop a lot vs a Lefty. Parra vs a RHP bats up as does Lind. Right now its just the right thing to do under the makeup of the active roster.
  3. I'm only advocating a trade for Gee. You can non-tender him after the season and move forward with the team. Niese's contract and moving from the NLeast to the NL Central and pitching home games in MP vs Citi just screams no chance. The Mets had Niese on the table this past offseason. No one bit. That was with his lower price of this season as a part of the equation. He'll be more expensive next season have less team control....just everything that equals less tradeability than he had this past offseason. A trade of Niese equals a team buying in to him through 2016 season. No thank you, not under Milw's circumstance. They have enough young 500k pitchers to equal the #4 that Niese is at best to count on for 2016. Gee saves Milw money and doesn't have a commitment for the Brewers beyond 2015. Thank you for you IP arm to get by for the 2015 season, the money you saved our team by allowing us to dump Ramirez on the Mets. See ya.
  4. /\ This. Do we really need another mid or back of the rotation piece back in a trade? I get the cost savings part, but cripes why not go after someone like Casey Meisner and hope that you can help him develop decent off speed stuff? Or Rob Whalen? What about a guy I'd really like to take a shot at in Michael Fulmer? Why does it have to be a MLB or MLB ready pitcher of the type we already have? Why add more of the same? I find the idea completely disheartening, and I to JB12's point I could care less about handedness in this case and I've been harping on LHP for years. I don't expect to get top 10 organizational talent for Ramirez at this stage of his career but at the same time why waste time acquiring a piece the Brewers don't really need? Unless we're trading someone with tremendous value shouldn't the idea be to peg players at AA or lower who will move up with our next wave of prospects? What good are more average to below average players going to do the big league roster in 2016? Yeah, of course I'd rather take in a Minor League player with a better than 50% chance to make a ML roster. But under the circumstances of how much Ramirez is being paid, and to his production, there is 0 reason for a team to even offer up that kind of prospect. He's a salary dump. A very bad one at that. Ramirez comes with an obvious negative value defensively. Old age regression-injury risk and maintaining his bat through the season/+Post-season. All that risk for 63% and less in the season. He's just being paid too much. If I can trade him to save money and actually get a #5 SP for the remainder of the season vs not trading him at all and eating his salary. I'm going to save money for a small market who could use every reason to spend money in any other fashion to help the team. Pay a scout in Latin America vs letting him go to another team. Looking at 3-6million in savings. That's got to be plenty of money to be used wisely, than the stupidity to pay Ramirez his retirement year to suck on a losing...key word, LOSING team. They're going nowhere. Every single resource should be done that sheds money on players who arent returning next season.
  5. It's highly doubtful Ramirez would bring back the type of prospect that projects beyond a fringe major league career so getting a veteran back with some usefulness isn't going to mess up any rebuilding. I'm not sold that Gee has any value, but Niese certainly does and as for blocking younger guys, well Niese would allow them to deal Fiers or Garza, and if Garza got dealt, Niese at $9 million would be their most expensive starter going into 2016, hardly a sign they are "all in" for 2016. In fact in the long run, a guy like Niese would net a much more viable prospect than a 3 month rental of Ramirez would. You're probably right that we could trade Niese down the road. I'd rather take him than Gee. Even getting a fringe prospect back would be fine with me just to save the salary money, but that's just my thoughts I guess. But as far as needing to take a pitcher back to trade Garza or Fiers - I tend to disagree. Between Jungmann, Cravy, Wagner and Thornburg, I think we have plenty of young guys that could fill the rotation spots the rest of the season. I'd rather see them get some experience and see what they have the rest of this season. Just my opinion I guess. Gotta remember the team plays 162 games and includes games in September. Thornburg, Jungmann, Wagner may be able to pitch in to and through Sept, but they'll be doing so on fumes pitching all their innings as Career firsts beyond 150. Cravy doesn't have over 100IP in his professional profile, he's likely going to be put in the Bullpen in due time to keep his innings down. If indeed there were talks to trade Garza or Fiers or even Peralta, taking on Gee would provide the depth to make it through the season. Lohse stands to be a waiver candidate if he's not traded, immediately after the deadline just to attempt to save some money if picked up. Niese to me is worth more than Ramirez in value. I don't like his contract under the Brewers pitching situation or as a where they stand in competing situation for its duration. Too much money committed for a #4 at best SP. He's going to be shellacked pitching in Miller Park and the NL Central vs pitching at Citi Field and the NLeast's hitting talents. Take on his contract, and that performance, you're waiving him and paying for him to sit at home. At least with Gee you can just non-tender him after the season. You save money getting rid of Ramirez and that's all there is to the deal. The Mets seem set at using Syndergaard and Matz in their plans this year. After them, I don't like a trade of Segura barring they give up some quantity of B type prospects since we can't get any B+toA- grades without including those two. Gomez to the Mets...They're paying too much money to Granderson/Cuddyer to make that trade happen. One would immediately go to the bench. Looks bad to me if it's Cuddyer after signing him losing the draft pick this year doing so. And Granderson's making too much. Just no Blockbuster to get done under the circumstances. Gee for Ramirez and saving 3-6million is a plus at this point. Ramirez is at .648OPS being paid 14million on the season and retiring. It's not a good trade chip for anybody.
  6. The sky is falling! Gomez caught the third out and played it like there were two. Who cares! Honestly it means nothing and had no effect on the game. No coach cares about stuff like that....now treating the second out like it is the third out is a totally different story. I watch infielders do that on a daily basis...I don't see people losing their minds over that. Most people laugh actually. Get. Over. It. It was a simple question. Was Gomez sat as a Counsell disciplinary or for other reason's? The only thing I knew that would be disciplinary were the 3 occasions now in the past week that Gomez caught the 3rd out and threw it in like there were only 2 outs. I'm not mad at Gomez. If it were disciplinary though it would show Counsell wasn't going to put up long with mental mistakes. Which would be a kudos factor to him. Its for Gomez' legs. Okay. Moot point. Just asked. over-reaction.
  7. No Carlos Gomez why is that? Think Counsell is giving him the day off for something in the field lately? Like the forgetting the outs in the games lately? Baserunning?
  8. If you pick them. Do you at least get to put them in good will and sit down and speak to them for a signing negotiation? 3years from now it can be, hey remember we picked you in 2015? Worked on getting insight on what you think you'll ask for in 3years? Or another way to put it. The 40rounds, picking unsignable players, saves the team money. The club is likely about to add to its farm system through trades to begin with. They don't need to fill out rosters for rk/a/a-/a+ ball. There's gotta be something that the club gets for drafting a player. Extra workouts down the road? Extra tape? Then again, Melvin apparently didn't know they drafted Carlos Rodon? or something of that sorts when asked about him.
  9. Okay, Draft ends tomorrow. I think you can officially begin the team's open for business in trades. Gomez should be on the rise. Garza may be putting together a run here to regain a lot of value. Parra is an obvious plus for any team looking for him. Lind should have staying power in value if he can remain healthy w/o a DL stint before the trade deadline. ARam's HR tonight is a good sign. He's historically been a slow starter, maybe he will get going at just the right time. Lohse and Broxton if anyone will take them are just salary relief at this time. As is ARam likely but who knows with 3b and sending some cash? Does the team trade KRod? Or make him available in the offseason, like Gomez or Lucroy possibly? He's gotta be at the point where he has more value than Papelbon does, who was being commanded a high prospect price. Interested in the Crew's first trade being done with!
  10. Gotta remember there's a thing called the Wildcard. One of Melvin's Post Season Appearances are due to that and not for winning the division. There are 7 seasons in that previous 33 where the team won 86 games or more. 4 they won more than 90 and didn't make the Playoffs due to the system back then. I'll give them 6 added playoff appearances so 8 in 33 seasons. vs 2 in 12. He's on a worse pace than the franchise's past history. And that includes the first 9 years as a franchise winning less than 77games. Give them the new franchise building up you're now at 8 or 24seasons with Playoff appearances. Vs the 2 of 12.
  11. There's a part of me feeling like Torii Hunters' signing was for a sendoff, but also as a, "I'm going to look to be traded around the deadline to a contender bringing back a prospect pair that will help the organization". I think he had better offers or rumors of teams that would seem more competitive than the Twins leading up to his Twins signing. He probably figured, a great farewell season to have in front of the crowd he grew up in, and playing for a team that wouldn't be buying but selling at the deadline based on their makeup. Which he can then go to a contender.
  12. No guarantee if you wanted them, they'd be there round 6, 7 or 8. Especially under the circumstances of this draft class. I can't believe we drafted Demi O in the 5th round. How he wasn't drafted by mid 3rd rd is beyond me. I almost have to believe the team sees him sitting there in the 4th round and and says, let's make this work, drafting him ahead of whatever team may have been doing just such a plan to wait til the 5th or 6th round and overslot sign him then. Brewers jumped on him and ruined that team's plans. The body frame on this guy is super perfect for an athlete. If his hit tool comes around to at least average, he's going to be a productive stud in the lineup.
  13. 7IP 3Hits(XBH all of them though) 1ER 92pitches. Great Job Jungmann! vs a division rival even better. In other baseball news. Chris Heston has 21outs of no-hit ball vs the Mets. If you can find that game on tv to catch the end of a no-hitter being pitched Oh wait...21 up 21 down perfect game going not just a no hitter Nope just the no hitter 2 HB.
  14. There had to be a big betting line on this game. I'd certainly have taken the Pirates if I did that sort of stuff.
  15. Crew only have the total pool if they sign picks 5-11 to have to pull from. Hooper was a full on commit and thus why he's available. Everett must be too. Pretty much you must have been looking at 3.5-5mil as a guess to get them to consider differently. Hooper was my #3 player in that I seen. Any bit of development and he's probably a 1-1 consideration the next draft he enters.
  16. Well based on how it works. You take Hanhold now sign him for underslot meaning you keep that entire slot's money to use. And sign overslot on the guy you'd rather have for rd 6 or somewhat higher money few rounds later. If he declines, that slot for rd 9 or 10 is less than what you'd lose for the slot at rd 6. Gotta be getting to the point where you have 1 of these signings left say 700k-800k to offer. Maybe for Milw. So after the Demi O pick there's a strong chance he was the final Upside pick of the day. A run of College signing types left....or one last savings up for one more HS pick to lure away.
  17. MLB said he just missed their top 200 so that's good for what would be an under slot pick. At least one with upside to progress.
  18. Seen that too but that was my thought. Not signable for Milw's money pool left to sign likely
  19. Looking down best available of MLB's that seems signable. Lefty OF Chris Chatfield sounds like an upside pick.
  20. I heard there is a new "classy" round. They were the only team to qualify. The Braves came close. Okay was for a failed signing last season. Surprised that was only one for 3rd round.
  21. Why did the Cardinals get an end of 3rd round supplemental pick? Only team to do so?
  22. You wonder on Demi O's signing ability for Milwaukee. We're at the point where if there are signing issues, the team will be selecting the college seniors to sign way under slot and take that money to sign Demi O. Expect this next pick to confirm that or not.
  23. Don't remember Skye Bolt? He was a topic of drafting a couple years back if I recall. Didn't take the money, must not have improved much in college that he's a 4th rd pick.
  24. Yess! No Way they drafted Demi! HAha keep it up.
  25. Great sounding pick on Walters. Team should just draft upside all day, offer slot and if not signed, take the comp pick and money for next year through rd 10. Afterwards where slot money no longer applies, draft the college seniors the rest of the way.
