  1. Does anyone think they do think of these things when making the schedule? You can wonder/believe in it. Schedule Makers obviously consider Spring Games and awarding teams with Domes with more Home games April/May. Teams down South will get more Home games then too. Minnesota types that can't fend off snow/spring rain get less home games. I'd guess an easy reason why Milw is playing Miami in Miami in Sept. All the years I've transferred to work in Miami there's never been a Brewer game in April/May...and voila! Next season there will be?!? Wow, and they schedule Min/Milw series in April. That is incredible to have a 10game homestand to finish August and then only play 9games Total in Sept/Oct. Mileage is also the big thing in working these schedules. Not having an East coast and West Coast series on the same trip. Personally, I'd guess a randomizer system that creates Schedules with Little tidbits of presets...Like in division games happen in April/Sept more. Click randomize. They'd look at some stats that's produced like Miles traveled by teams. Something sticks out wrong.(a midwest team traveling 400k mile more than any other) Click randomize again. And do this til something looks remotely fair.
  2. They do have some of the contract based around time on the DL. 4 years/$50M (2014-17), plus 2018 vesting option signed by Milwaukee as a free agent 1/27/14 14-17:$12.5M annually. 18: vesting/club option 2018 option vests at $13M if Garza 1) has 110 starts in 2014-17, 2) has 115 innings in 2017 and 3) is not on the disabled list at end of 2017 season club holds $5M option for 2018 if it does not vest at $13M club may exercise 2018 option at $1M if Garza spends more than 130 days on disabled list in any 183-day period from 2014 to 2017 $2M annually is deferred without interest, to be paid in four installments each Dec. 15, 2018-21 annual performance bonuses: $0.5M each for 30 starts, 190 IP Has anyone else posted the truth behind this decision is simple to see? Garza's Vesting contract is for 110 Starts between 14-17 with 115IP in '17. Why is Garza "Ticked" The Brewers just stole 4 to 5 of those 110 starts. His contract just became 3/30mil essentially vs. 3/38mil. Which is a better Trade chip? And not only trade chip, but let's say Garza Pitches well from this funk over 16&17. 5mil team option? Why not? 5mil will be easy to trade if he's anywhere near 4ERA as a SP. And if he's near 4ERA he's solidifying the backend of the Brewers rotation in 2018. If Garza had say .5-.75 less ERA and hadn't been awful with his stats he'd have a right to be ticked. But truthfully, the Brewers are making a great contract move by doing this and this shows exactly why I like the contract signing to begin with.
  3. It doesn't take nothing but pitches left up every pitch, It's just leaving a 2-0 FB up to one batter. Here's the standing at the Moment. 7th. 4.5games to pick 14th. 3.5 to pick 5th. The team has now crossed where it's More likely now they pick outside the top 10 than inside. And certainly stand very little chance of a top 4. 5th-14th. Small Market team, gets built by the draft...Lohse and Garza are proof of that. To the Rogers calling for play. I'm thinking the Brewers extend Lind at 1st base especially with this run. 3/33mil...Maybe go 4/45mil. I'm probably dreaming at that price but he should be manning 1b if the Brewers want to be competitive there. He's a Lefty bat in a Righty dominant lineup. High OB. I don't see Rogers having any future but as an emergency backup for Lind. Braun/Lind has just been such a great combo let's face it. The team should move forward and keep it together through 2019 or 2020.
  4. Come on now how can the Braves be at 12 losses in a row and counting and no one believe teams can tank? Look, just throw Lohse in the 6th inning leave all your pitches up in the zone until you've given up 2 runs. Tanking is easy in baseball it's in the pitching. Yeah allow the batters to play hard, but you have these lame ducks of a RP core in this now Sept expanded roster. Go have them leave a hanging Curveball for a 3run HR and sudden loss of the lead. That's if your Starting pitcher has pitched too well. Jeesh It's 1-19 in their last 20 games. Losing seems to be their agenda. #1 pick to plug away with new Stadium selling? The Rockies have 2 of the best hitters in Baseball right now in Cargo and Arenado but have just 1 RP with under 4ERA with over 20IP. Come on 1 RP. Brewers have 4 alone with under 3ERA over 40IP. 7 under 4ERA over 20IP. Counsell needs to rest Smith/Jeffress/Knebel and pitch Lohse+Pena giving them 7th/8th innings every other game. Garza had he not punked out with his SP only sentiment...He should be suspended by the team w/o pay the rest of the season.
  5. We are beating the Wrong team. Pitts lose to. Cardinals beat. Gotta get the formula correct. We're doing the Win ourselves out of a top 10 pick it appears.
  6. Bombers Olt just hasn't been the same hitter since his eye issue. He whiffs too much to count on him batting above .225 I'd figure. 100Ks/250PAs in 2014 at the ML level. This year at the MiLb level 75/243PAs 9Hrs. Finished the last 10 games of the season at 14-36 to boost his numbers from a .724OPS to .793. Just prior to that he had 3K games in 3 of his prior 5 starts. Lucky timing for him when the season ended. I don't see him becoming a difference maker. His contact/age/power just don't add up anymore. His Defensive WAR was slightly below 0 in 2014. So much for trying to gain positives on that respect.
  7. The Cubs are also working with a 175+mil payroll to make such signings. Span will be too expensive to lure here. If I were him 15mil minimum if not 18million per year to play for 70win teams the next 2years. He/or his agent can not possibly be stupid enough to look at the Brewers makeup for 2016 and not have an idea Span is being signed for a future Trade payoff. You want to do that? Show me some money. Again, Please just spend more money on Internationals than risk 10+ for 1 or 2years of Span.
  8. How much is Cheap for a 1year contract vet? Because Span is making 10mil+ next season and that's the point. He's not cheap for this Buy to Trade strategy. 2. you don't think that Span who's going to have his suitors is going to look at a 1yr contract with a Milw team that must scream 70wins to him vs I dunno maybe Seattle or better yet Texas offering 1 or 2yrs? Milwaukee coughs up 15mil for Span, fine I don't think those two would go that high. But 10-12mil I can see easily. He's turning 32 to begin next season, his defensive stats read in a decline the past 4seasons from his high pretty much a little worse every season. He's the kind like Lucroy will be after 30 you say thanks for your cheap service that gave value for it, but we'll let someone now overpay you to provide at or below value.
  9. No It wasn't just Olt. But the team asking for his inclusion...I think prior to his Eye problems...is what caused Texas to say no. Melvin smugly made a comment one time about them not trading a certain 3b while he trotted out a Jean Segura who was on fire to start 2013. Olt was struggling bad due to his eye problems and mixed with his talent which was already a strikeout concern. With having Santana I'd prefer not to get another 200+k batter to fill in the lineup. There's still Perez, Segura, Arcia, Sardinas, and even Rivera. One of those slide over to 3b. There's this big rush in here to find are 3b easily forgetting this team has 2 if not 3 seasons to figure this out which will include more trades of ML pieces before that time passes as well as more graduation of Minor League prospects. Gilbert Lara I think if he's living up to his suggested talent will explode up to ML ready. Leave 3b open for him. Go with Perez/Segura/Sardinas as your rebuild guys. Olt just doesn't make one believe he'll get it in time and if you keep Olt you likely lose 1 of Perez/Segura/Sardinas/Rivera to roster him in 2016.
  10. As the cool kids said in the not to far past....Clown Question Bro. It's like a stock market decision. All-in on Greinke or Hedge you investment with Lohse/Garza+Segura/Hellweg/Pena We lost Hellweg/Pena but 3 to 1 on equal money. One injury to Greinke and all 25mil is wasted. Having no #2 or a SS to show for your money spent. You have Greinke and as a small market you believe to be looking to trade him at some point. Again Injury can wipe out those best laid plans. 200mil+payrolls can afford that kind of risk. Not 100mil. Just like as Greinke probably opts out of the contract, the Dodgers offer him a wimpy 16mil QO and get a draft pick in return. Let's say Greinke goes down to injury TJ right now. What are the Brewers doing? Offering that QO? He'd be hurt the entire 2016season. Dodgers, doesn't matter if they want that pick bad enough.
  11. Yeah. I'm guessing the Brewers are about to average 8.5runs per game vs the Reds down the stretch...A lot like how they scored at will vs the Phillies. Also Pitching Matchups. Reds Ace not pitching in either the first two series should projection hold. Iglesias, Sampson, Lamb and Sampson, Lamb and Holmberg.
  12. No. Don't want Span. He'd immediately be blocking Phillips at CF. He's also going to cost 10mil or more because of his "Defense" Him hitting in MP I don't see adding value to his bat. He's pretty much shown 3-6HR power. Sure he may run in to 9 or 10HRs as a Brewer but nobody is going to look at that output and think he's popping 10 now every year. He's a 5HR projection. What's the point in acquiring him anyway with Phillips? For next year? Why waste 12 to 14mil on a team probably scraping for 74wins next season? I can guess maybe as a player to sell in July. You're looking at basically spending 7-9million hoping Span stays healthy to acquire 2 solid prospects. Please just spend that money on the international market instead. For every Parra trade, there's ARam, Lohse, Garza, Gallardo season that, that plan failed. Assets nobody wanted or in ARam's case for very little. Just invest it in the International market and not some half season/full season Name that puts the team closer to .485.
  13. The part about the baserunning metrics. How is that honestly put together? Because making the 1st out at 3b or final out should wipe out like 10SBs or bases taken on balls hit per occasion. Beyond Boneheaded and I'm sure the metrics don't penalize as much. Those outs killed me for wanting to keep Gomez on the team, and ate away with wanting him traded. I just don't get how any man as fast as Gomez attempts a SB at 3b with 2outs. You're running on contact and if it's a hit, you're scoring standing up. But no, he made the 3rd out on too many occasions. That's the only black mark I have with Gomez is his mind refuses to get smart under situations. 1out and a pitcher is wild? Or ignoring you at 2b and you make a run for 3b? Fine you can score on a Sac Fly if you pull it off. Maybe even score when he throws another wild pitch in the dirt....smart. But, attempting to swipe 3b with 2outs or 0outs dumb. What do the metrics apply for that though? Is a CS at 3b equal for 1st out, 2nd out, 3rd out? Or do they subtract more for 3rd out and 1st out? What about if it happens with 2outs and the batter was the pitcher? Or Ryan Braun? With a pitcher up, it shouldn't affect as much. With Braun up, who's better than .250 he's just cost the team 25+% of scoring a run. Still, he did nothing wrong in that Yankee game except maybe yell shut up 1 time to many.
  14. This is the Reds starting 4 currently: Anthony DeSclafani as their Ace(Respectable 3.84ERA), Raisel Iglesias #2 at rookie 3.93ERA, Keyvius Sampson #3 at 5.55ERA, John Lamb #4 at 6.06ERA and David Holberg #5 at 7.62ERA. DeSclafani: 143IP Iglesias: 73.1IP Sampson:24.1IP Lamb:16.1IP Holmberg: 28.1IP This Season's totals for that staff. TANK MODE. Worst team in baseball and it's not even close. Doubt they'd win 50games over the entire season if that was the Opening day Rotation with whomever they have to replace that's even worse. Reds #1 Pick unless the Brewers can forfeit all games vs the Reds starting today. Philly is a no brainer #2. 3-6 will be between Milw/Mia/Atl/Colo Sadly though seeing as Milw now has about 7wins if not 8 locked in vs the Reds that's just too many cancelling out that hopeful .500 play between the 3 NL East teams to keep them up in wins.
  15. I'm guessing the McCann idea had a little to do with the jarring back and forth from the dugout. Here's the thing. Perspective. Yankees are upset over Gomez' show of displeasure in a 9-0 game. Gomez' perspective is he's been struggling batting below .200 I believe for the Astros. And in a 9-0 game, meaning Hittable pitches have been thrown the Astros way, he missed and continues this poor trend he's on. I see nothing wrong with what Gomez did because what he has been going through... probably pressing and he's better than this stretch. For the Yankees to cry out chirping his way for such an act they have problems. And Gomez paid them back with a HR next at bat. Nothing from that HR comes back to him in his actions. Didn't showboat that. I won't find much wrong with emotion shown on field because I'll consider what's been going through that guys head to show such emotion. How about a team that's getting beaten 9-0 and having a problem with an out just walking to the umpire and declaring they quit? Bigger sore sport to create a scene over an out.
  16. Brewers just won't tank like Philly/Cincy/Atlanta have been doing Miami had Fernandez, Stanton, Yelich all on the DL up til Yelich was able to start today. Miami is trying to win their stars can't stay healthy. I'm thinking Milwaukee 4th or 5th worst at season's end. Philly, Cincy, Atl, Milw/Mia, Oakland/Mariners Cincy could end up at #1 they have worse pitching now than Philly w/o Cueto/Leake and Philly Starting Aaron Nola. Atl has been in tank mode since January. Miami does get back Stanton and Fernandez I believe which should add wins for Sept. I'm sure they get Phi/Atl 10games in Sept. Probably win 8of them and that is how Milw gets 4th behind Phi/Atk but ahead of Mia. Sept is Division month so maybe there's hope as Atl/Phi/Mia all play each other that someone has to win. Milw by far has the toughest schedule remaining of any team forthcoming
  17. Solid prospect for solid prospect deals just don't happen....Too Rare to go Rumormill. Now playing the rules off that list Taylor:he'll be a Logan Schafer type clone and be absolutely disappointing. Please dump that disappointment in to someone else's lap Coulter: The man doesn't have the defense to play him. He's already aging for a prospect stuck in A ball Wagner: Just a swingman/bullpen arm Taylor Williams: When will he play? 24 and aging Yadiel Rivera: He should be promoted in Sept and getting playing time at SS over Segura. Raise some value in his stock by doing so. Roache: We've got Santana sell off Roache who's a step below with the bat if not more. Wren: isn't a top 30 prospect and its rather sad he's on the list. Bumgarner has more talent than Wren with the Bat Goforth: just a bullpen guy who lacks control Tyler Cravy: Swingman/Bullpen arm but not an 8th/9th inn closing arm=expendable like Wagner Denson: Of course. I don't know why he's in the top 30 as well. He's done nothing deserving. Houser: Sounds like a swingman/bullpen arm Johnson: Swingman/bullpen arm Gatewood is a popular choice, but he's of the if he gets it, watch out talent side. This is a kid who can be the best of any Brewers prospect/Arcia included because what he can do power-wise for a SS. At some point who will be Rule 5 concerns first? Thats why I'm flipping Coulter and Roache. All these Swingman types when there's talented depth forthcoming in arms with Medeiros/Williams/Kirby/Ponce makes them very expendable. Rivera I hope is like a Didi Gregarious and nets the team some quality arm or even 8th inning arm/closer type like Knebel. Something to snag say a Kelvin Herrera...obviously adding some piece also.
  18. Of course he can based on HR power alone. But you're looking at what he's done this season and it's with him probably on pace to over 600PAs Health. That's what is going to keep him from the record or not. 600PAs 32Hrs. 300PAs 16. Hard to get there on a season of that. Not a fan of him and I hope he comes up short. I don't think what he does with his bat will deter teams from signing him for any kind of Right price....Not Yankee of now prices... He'll hang on and be a bench bat/DH for some AL club. Matt Stairs/Jason Giambi type of career ending chasing the record I imagine. A team will look to sell tickets marketing the chase of the record and hope that if he gets to the tying HR and then passes HR. Those HRs happen 20-30 games apart so you sell tickets to be in the stands or even Catch the ball.
  19. The last game I watched Peralta pitch. It seemed 70% of his breaking pitches were short and in the dirt. So Yeah. Hitters are sitting fastball and watching Breaking pitches be Balls. Can't throw your breaking pitches for strikes, you are forced to throw the Fastball and hitters are sitting Red on that pitch. It's clear he's not going to be a 2. and each season he ages is going to bring on the Velocity loss concerns. He just doesn't have it in the head. Has to be it. Always been one where he or his fielders make mistakes and you see him come unrattled and it leads to runs. This just may be the best we ever see of him what he's given the team as a SP for these last 3 seasons. I mentioned he should be offered up in trade with a high pricetag(Dodgers I believe) Going on that he's an innings eater respectable numbers for one. He's a Pitcher that say sent to the Cubs and given new tutelage with a new home probably gets the best out of him and he's a #2 that Milwaukee just isn't going to pull out of him. 4.13ERA at home-3.71ERA on the road. As I suggested he has broken down in between the ears many a time, and maybe pitching in Miller Park he's already facing demons. Keep him or trade he's really not going to disappoint me anymore. I expect 195IP if given 32 starts and a 4.05ERA. It's the fact that he was the team's #1 prospect that has everyone waiting for him to pitch 3.30-ish ERA. That thrilling 2hit 8IP game in 2012 didn't help. But that was his 13-21IP at the Majors. The book wasn't out on him, but our #1 prospect had just thrown that and you're left as a fan expecting those results from a guy who may be able to give that to you twice a month but not 4 times a month.
  20. If it's up to New York, the umps shouldn't be getting any explanation. Just a rule of safe/out whatever is being reviewed. By doing so, what can you argue? Thus the automatic ejection when you do. It's to save time on what likely was an already dragging on phone call to decide.
  21. What is wrong with him? He's given up the same amount of ERs in 67 less IP from last season! He's up 1BB/9 on the season and giving up 1hit/9 more than last season. So pretty much 2 more baserunners per start and his ERA is 1.55 higher. Must be some bad luck going on. Something I'll question on Teheran is Pitching interdivision games vs. what I call the NLEast. Mets, Phillies, Nationals, and Marlins. In all those Pitcher parks. Pitcher parks vs weaker hitting foes in talent. Moving him to Miller Park, facing the NL central hitters. I'd fear a 5ERA from him with the change. Well prior to his numbers this year I'd say more 4ERA but under 3.3 would be gone. Monetary value, his contract is cheap. All 30 teams can afford it, even the Pirates/Rays. The asking price for Julio regardless of this season's numbers is going to be immense. Brewers would have to start with either Arcia or Phillips. D. Williams or Jorge Lopez. And Nathan Kirby. Now you're acquiring Teheran at a time of rebuild while he's cheap. Removing 1 of those top rebuild prospects which prolongs the batting rebuild. So 2018? is that when Milw will become competitive again? Lucroy is gone. So is Lind. Braun is 2 more seasons older. Now Teheran's contract price is 8mil. with 11mil forthcoming. The timing is just all to poor to do this. It's a win-now move. Just don't believe Milw can win right now. Remember, we are in the midsts of Pitts. and the Cubs continuing this growth of theirs. They'll be even better next season. The Cubs will have an even better Ace(Grienke?) on their staff than Teheran. Pittsburgh will be adding Tyler Glasnow I imagine which is Syndergaard/Matz like to the staff. The Brewers really need to stay on track for rebuild. Liriano is done after 2017 and McCutchen likely as well(Pirates have to trade him and not hold on to him for 2018) That is the year the Brewers should be targeting to compete. 2018 with doing nothing but acquiring talent as they have this year all the way through then. Yes, Teheran is a great talent, but he's going to cost talent to acquire.
  22. Yea, what a bizarre thread for someone to start. Why didn't the original poster just post this in the already active Davis thread vs starting this goofy one with a title talking about trading players we own in both instances? Who would you have connections to? By making it an already Brewers prospects and you're buying with them. I felt opinions would be more harsh. If you're arguing Santana/Hader side. Vs me finding a prospect like Tampa's Daniel Robertson and saying Tampa offers him and former 1st rd pick Mikie Mahtook up for Davis. It becomes easy to fight for Davis because those look like garbage prospects, a top 100 SS prospect that Milwaukee doesn't need. No Pitching. And Tampa considering money and who's playing LF could actually be a decent Khris Davis landing place. That is Tampa's #5 and #15 prospect while Santana and Hader are Brewers #4 and #15 prospects. We're Brewer fans and Tampa's offer is just not enough...I'm sure TPlush wants Blake Snell at minimum. Truth is Tampa's offer is very close to equal to the Santana/Hader package. Partly because that Pedigree type prospect talk. Both of Tampa's selections were end of 1st round picks. Just need a little time/grooming maybe to reach their 1st rd talent potential? But I'm guessing ranking the packages would go Santana/Hader, Davis, and then Robertson/Mahtook and that package isn't even close for Davis while Santana/Hader are an overpay. Both include 1 top 100 prospect for Davis.
  23. http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/blanco-credits-aoki-panik-surge-plate?p=ya5nbcs&ocid=yahoo Remember 2013? When Davis, Gennett, Segura had well above average Batting years? Do you think some of Aoki rubbed off with their Approach at the plate?
  24. So to have trade value we must ignore MLB production and worry about how he was rated as a prospect? I have never heard, after 1,000 MLB plate appearances, a players trade value be effected by his prospect ranking. Unless of course you are a big time prospect that still has potential to grow. But to have your prospect ranking negatively effect you well into your MLB career? That just seems unreal. Reasons to consider that are his arm/speed 8SBs in his career Having LF be his only position to play? Batting avg/On Base potential. He's at 27.5% K rate up from 22.2% last season. For someone barely above 20% K rate in the minors. How about Davis' Splits? .862 batting in MP. .708 on the road. Something else that doesn't bode well. Let's say you trade Santana for Davis. Next season Davis throws a 550PA statline of .216/.280/.410. Continues his decline? Meanwhile Santana is having Davis' rookie year at the plate for the team you traded him to. The signs are very well reading loud and clear Davis' numbers are more likely to reduce than to improve back to above expectations. Especially with a move away from MP
  25. I doubt many of this year's draftees will start as top-100 prospects. Maybe the top-5 or so. Right now in MLB's top 100 15 were drafted this year. Fairly unbelievable if you ask me. I suggested 10. But there you have it. It's top 85 and 15 of this year's draftees sprinkled in. Now based on Lopez spot on Milw at 9th. He has to jump Taylor(easy) Lara(not as easy) Coulter(easy) Williams(not as easy) alone just to reach next at top 100 within. You look at his numbers and say to yourself he's deserving to be ranked in top 100. Less than 9hits/9 just under 9ks/9 Only 8HRs in 125IP Under 3 ERA. He's either going to get his ranking when the season ends, or he'll be pitching for the Brewers before he's ever ranked in top 100 and all the ranking individuals when he succeeds will say, "Lopez was a guy I wanted to rank and was going to rank next time" Or if Lopez doesn't perform, "This is what we expected and why we kept him from a top 100 ranking" Remember Toukki Toussaint? He's in the top 100. 46BB/62K ratio in 81IP and 10HRs allowed. He was ranked in top 100 immediately following draft. Do those numbers suggest he's earned it at this point vs Lopez? Why not send Toussaint to where Lopez is in their 100-150s type ranks and move Lopez up to #80-100 for what he's accomplished at a higher level this year?
