  1. Great point. But they knew that was the case, so that's why they should have taken a chance at the #12 pick, then gone college pitcher at 15.
  2. While I agree with everything you said, I wouldn't count on that happening. High School players have more leverage to demand higher signing bonuses, which the Brewers won't be able to pay now that will lose almost $2M from their pool. Due to this fact, we will almost certainly take 1-2 college juniors within the first five rounds.
  3. I stumbled upon a show on NFL network last night called "Top 10 Brett Favre Games", so I watched it hoping to relive some great old Packer games. I kid you not, 5 of the 10 were Vikings games! Half! Ridiculous.
  4. You beat me to it. This was my first thought exactly.
  5. Last year, the scouting reports were that Aoki would only be able to play LF, and he did fine in RF. I think starting once a week in RF, along with giving Braun a day off once a month in LF, plus pinch hitting will definitely get Davis 250-300 AB's.
  6. Ryan Braun will win a batting title, go 40/40, win a Gold Glove, lead his team to a Wild Card spot, and come in 2nd in MVP to a guy who once blew a kiss to the opposing pitcher as he troted around the bases after hitting a homer, but wasn't mentioned in the Biogenesis report. Sounds about right to me.
  7. Carlos Gomez career OBP minus BA: 2007 .056 2008 .038 2009 .058 2010 .051 2011 .051 2012 .045 2013 ST .138 As I mentioned in a different post, some guys learn patience later in their careers than others, and some never learn it at all. If this spring is a sign of things to come with Carlos, we should all be pleasantly surprised. I for one am not holding my breath.
  8. To all the naysayers about the Brewers lack of talent in their minor leagues, I give you the 2013 T-Rats!
  9. I actually agree with you. I think he could definitely be a bottom of the order regular. I was purely referencing the lack of walks that concern some people. I hope he does replace Weeks as our everyday second baseman in 2015, but if so he will be limited as to where he hits in the order to start his career. Hopefully, he does learn the patience at the plate, along with improving defense and being a good baserunner, and he will be a very nice complimentary player.
  10. I couldn't agree more. Mauer has always been an excellent defensive catcher, as well as putting up great offensive numbers for the most part, and still he's not living up to the expectations due to the power drop off. My problem with the Posey contract is there is a more than likely chance that he's not a catcher when this contract ends, which will also make him worth a lot less than he's earning.
  11. Buster Posey, meet Joe Mauer. Joe Mauer, Buster Posey.
  12. You do realize that MLB is a legal monopoly right? Remember, 100 years ago the players did start their own league, and it folded after three years. It might seem like they could all make a fortune trying to compete against MLB, but in the end, the players make stupid amounts of money, the owners make stupid amounts of money, and we fans keep paying stupid amounts of money. Why would the players want to risk changing what is working for everyone? P.S. Remember the XFL?
  13. A lot of young guys develop patience at the plate later in their careers, so to me that in itself is not a huge concern. What is a concern is he will never have the power of a Braun, Hall, Hart or Hardy, all guys we developed who came up with little to no patience at the plate. But we could live with the lack of walks because of the homers they provided. Scooter doesn't have that, so to become a regular, he needs to excel at as many other aspects of the game as possible.
  14. I agree about Mark A. I don't think he necessarily bought the Brewers as an investment. I think it was a reward to himself for having the money to do it because of his other investments. Also, franchises historically never (or rarely) go down in value, so it really isn't much of a risk to become an owner if you already have made enough money to purchase a franchise. Its about as safe of an investment as you can make.
  15. Very well put, Monty. I love Corey, but there is ZERO reason to do anything at this point in time. Corey has said that he wants to be a Brewer for his entire career, but I still don't think he'd give much as far as a discount to stay. Let the summer play out, and we will have a lot more information to base an intelligent decision on.
  16. Thanks for the response (and the correction) , Colby. If Jonah Wesley was there, I would love to see us get him. I've heard he potentially has as much upside as any LHP HS pitcher, including 1st round locks like Clarkin, Gonzalves and Kominsky. I'm curious about your expert opinion.
  17. Besides leaving Pedro Martinez in after 125 pitches when he hadn't done that all season, what did Grady Little do to get fired by the Red Sox? When it comes to the playoffs, there is no room for error. You can't manage with your gut. You've got to use your head, which means no Kotsay and definetely no Marcum.
  18. Mark A and Doug have proven over the last half dozen years that they find ways to put competitive, if not always championship caliber, teams on the field. A little over a year ago, people were wondering why we signed Aoki, now they don't know what we'd do without him. I have faith in our ability to be competitive year in and year out without tearing it all down.
  19. He got to be a number 1 color guy because he loves the Cardinals and Yankees.
  20. I can't believe you could stop laughing long enough to actually type that. Why do you think mine was the 92nd reply?
  21. Hopefully he... still has... the range... to play... shortstop
  22. The only time my friends and I ever tried it was for the first ever game at Miller Park, and nobody was selling for less than 4X face value. Obviously, that opening day was even more special than a usual opening day, so I don't know if that helps or not.
  23. Whoa, where was my head in my earlier post? Thanks for having my back.
  24. I guess I'll go ahead and ask. So, who does everybody like with the 53rd pick?
  25. That's exciting about the scouts comments. I'm sure he was very dissapointed, but I'm sure the scouts have a way of smoothing things over for a young kid. Tell him to keep his chin up!
