  1. An extra run any old way will be nice. But great to have the game into Frankies hands
  2. With Kintzler and Thornburg suddenly shakey are we Duke 7th and Smith 8th in close games. And our pen then needs a ROOGY
  3. We seem to have a recent pattern of missing opportunities to open up a lead. Then next inning give up the slim lead we had Sure are a LOT of close games
  4. I was confused how my overpaying was mis-interpreted. And I thought I was clear. When I say overpay, I mean overpay in MONEY terms for a year and a half to help THIS year and NEXT. I don't mean overpay in trading prospects. I think a money overpay for a year and a half, where the seller has a huge incentive to sell... is better than FA where the player holds the balance of power.
  5. I will have to ignore the Brewers and Ron until I am calmed down - maybe a few days. Ron's last presser where he said he could not use Smith (because he pitched him in the five run lead game) and he still trusts Kintzler and will use him as a 7th / 8th inning guy drove me nuts. Pretty much Ron mismanaged the pen costing us a game and said 'nothing else I could have done'. Ron should have said: 'I was wrong to use Smith and cause him to be unavailable. And I will go the Hendy route with Kintzy and pitch him in the low leverage scenarios. I pretty much eff'ed up by using Smith in low leverage and Kintz in high leverage given their recent form. It did cost us a game, but we have learned from that and will do better going forward. And I know Kintzy will come back well. So after a couple low leverage ZEROs he will put up, he will be back to the 7th and 8th inning lead'. WHY OH WHY would Ron not state the obvious or learn from a mistake. I gotta avoid this for a few days or until a few wins show up. I can handle mistakes. Humans are humans. But for the human to then say 'I did not err, I did not learn, and I will do it again'. Then I need to walk away for a while.
  6. To be honest, you need to consider the warming up process before coming on; so a bullpen would go a LOT further if you had HALF the appearance and DOUBLE the pitches. For example, using Thornburg every other day for 12 pitches is a LOT MORE stressful than using him every forth day for 24 pitches. You could likely use him every third day for 24 pitches. This game, as far as I can see, was the first game of the year thrown away with idiocy. I sure hope Ron learns. Other games I could follow. This was just a monumental stupid attack.
  7. I want to point out the posters here called the mistakes, the stupidity, BEFORE the results were in. Ron has really done a good, proactive job up to the last few games. He has reverted back to a 'panic', 'buddy' manager. Proactive decisions are not made in panic or on being a buddy to the guys or a predetermined set of cookie cutter decisions (with no regard to form of the players). I hope Ron goes back to playing players on form, not buddy, or roles. This inning shows why Wang is a good mop up guy. He throws strikes. So he can always be counted on for 3 innings and 60-70 pitches in a who cares game. So even Wang is misused here. Did he rest the bullpen. Only Ron's silly game blowing has rested some of the bullpen here. I sure hope we come back. We cannot throw 1 game away so easily. Terrible.
  8. And now because Ron has NO IDEA what to do, we will see Wang. So, I guess the rules are - any deficit = Wang - any lead = Smith - any 8th = Kintzler At least I know how it is working now
  9. You have to admit, you can forgive the prior loss with Kintzy in the one run game. Mind you, the guys is coming off the DL, so maybe you want to SEE HIM one or two times. But this is developing in an Axey scenario where Ron will keep doing the same over and over... costing us. And, the game before we are using our best reliever in a FIVE RUN LEAD GAME. So, whereas the beginning of the year Ron was making decisions on 'form'. Now Ron has gone back to 'panic mode' (using Smith in a five run game... must win) and 'buddy mode' (let me show faith in Kintzy). Geez
  10. Ron has reverted to YostRon. Henderson did not 'look good' and was not 'pitching well' so Ron (correctly) eased him back in - in low leverage situations. Kintzler has not 'looked good' and was not 'pitching well', but Ron has him as the 8th inning guy. That is that. Form does not matter. Kintzler = 8th inning guy. Now two games blown because Ron has reverted to YostRon. Or more correctly - RonOfOld
  11. Good thing we save our best reliever for when we are trying to close out a five run lead. Then leave the back of the bullpen for the one run games.
  12. Over the year.... the Crew, runs scored, inning by inning 1 = 12 (probably today not included, I just did MLB team stats) 2 = 21 3 = 18 4 = 21 5 = 14 6 = 9....... the big drop starts here... after innings 4 and 5, we shut up shop 7 = 12 8 = 11 9 = 9
  13. "Getting back to Estrada. I don't know what to do with him but someone has to be traded after this season. I don't care if it's Estrada, Lohse or Gallardo. But we need to make room for the young, cheap pitcher, be it Thornburg, Nelson, or Smith, and we also need to improve our system. Two birds with one stone." I agree so much with this summation. Yet, let me play devil's advocate.... we will/can lose Frankie and Gonzales (and of course Wang) from the pen. Is that all? (Duke makes four?) So, you can indeed FIND three places to fill from AAA into the bullpen. I really don't mind the first year of a starter in MLB being in the bullpen. Can I ask, would that actually make him a bit cheaper come arby (just a throw in thought there). So if Thonburg is the closer and Nelson and Fier and others make the pen... is it a given we MUST trade a starter. I guess the MUST trade a starter would depend on what we are offered in return.
  14. I always like the thought of overpaying for good players. Some players end up with 12 mill dollar contracts are worth maybe half that. I would love the Brewers, say, to pick up some guy that had 1 1/2 years on a bad contract. But the player is still a valuable player. That is the only 'bargain' I see at trade deadlines. Find a team out of it and wants to shed a big contract on a 'still ok/good' player. This sort of thing likely will only fit for the Brewers as a 3rd baseman, 1st baseman, or reliever. Because we may need (next year) a player in those positions who is good, even if an overpay.
  15. Burn three relievers with a 5 run lead? Having others warming up in the pen, as well. Ron is playing every game like it is game 7 of the World Series. Good or bad. I am torn.
  16. Is Frankie up and throwing. I think we need to give RR a NINE MAN bullpen.
  17. Maybe we can wear out Wooten, then send him back to AAA. RR screwed this up. He could have had Wang start the 8th and if two guys get on, then go to Wooten. Mind you, with Wooten's initial blow up a few games ago, two nice outing in a row keeps him positive for the rest of the year when he is called backup. So, we just need to hope for the odd early blow out against the Crew (strange to say!). Heck I am even happy with the three innings Wang threw the other day with a 1 run deficit to start. Wang did not shirk getting through three. Maybe that will just happen once a week. Let me see... 25 weeks... 3 innings a week... 75 innings... ha ha. Quite a work load
  18. If Wang does not pitch today, it simply means he will only be used when the Crew is down 4+ runs and/or when Maldonado is unavailable. That will make me sad.
  19. I sure hope the Crew can score 5 or 6 more in the bottom of the 8th to allow the bullpen to relax.
  20. A couple of points. 1) you can pitch Wang with a five run lead; you can simply 'once two guys get on, you are done'; at least he will be able to face two guys... maybe two innings! 2) did you notice Smith was suddenly (this outing) not at 94-96 mph... but only 90ish; that is a warning sign to me
  21. vs "The point was could you find a pitcher that has only pitched 6 innings after the first 29 games of the season (while being on the active roster the entire time) with a 15 ERA who was able to keep their roster spot" It is really hard to know which logic or opinion to put weight to. If I add the pink unicorn to the 2nd observation, maybe I need to go with that. Maybe we need to find a pink unicorn whose name begins with W to clearly and surely make the correct comparison and judgment
  22. Where is that analysis that show how beneficial our baserunning has been this year. I do see that running into outs so the bases are clear for subsequent hits as beneficial
  23. So for Weeks it becomes a bit of con act. If he sticks at MLB even showing nothing and even hurting his teammates, then maybe he can con some sucker next year. If he has the balls to go to AAA and play and prove himself he risks showing that his career is over. So he would rather hurt his teammates for a possible con in 2015, rather than be a man and try to 'put up' something in AAA - and HELP his team and mates, then come back for the end of the year. I hope in the next couple of weeks the Brewers offer that to Rickie. Please go to AAA for while for the best of the club. Then when he says 'no thanks' it is his choice. I assume Bianchi is a better option at 2nd at this point in time vs Weeks. And I guess Green is the backup then for a Scooter injury.
