  1. I certainly was wrong thinking his two half year funks were just funks and he was the original Ike. Mind you, I have post somewhere saying Weeks would be come back player of the year. What I should do is start spruiking Cardinal players. That will assure us of the division.
  2. RoCo: "keeping Lyle Overbay over the younger guy with substantially more upside was a bonehead move". It was actually a DM move. He identified ERRORS at first base as the big buga-boo from last year. One of his sole considerations at first was defence in 2014 (with little regard to offense or upside or future). Obviously our bench (so far) is the 2014 buga-boo. So in 2015 I guarantee we will be big BENCH SPENDERS.
  3. I do wonder why Wang would not just do what is best for the team... that was an opportunity of gold wasted. I was thinking there are a few candidates to head back to AAA when our other guys are back. Finally, this was the one and only game so far in Australia on TV. But I did manage to get all my housework done - as I was only able to stomach about 25% viewing time. So 75% of game time was house cleaning time. (always some win to take from any situation)
  4. Marco is scuffling with too many walks. I don't mind his homers if they are solo shots and the rest of the time not many people are on base. The next month (as homer says) will be the telling factor.
  5. No way is MLBPA any way concerned for minor leaguers. You gotta play 43 days to get your pension. And, like all future promises, hard economic times can void them. So would you rather 34,000 'maybe' guaranteed forever with the hope of a big later motsa. Or are you happy to take 10 mill NOW. The MLB guys are only looking after their own pockets and other high end and future high end players. They care NOTHING about Singleton's pocket or future.
  6. You guys are all a joy to sit here and read. I don't know nothin' about these kids... but after reading you all, it is fun to get excited about the future. Keep up the good commentary and positiveness. Good fun!
  7. I want Braun to not make it and rest his thumb and chest. I would be ecstatic with Lucroy Gomez Lohse and Smith
  8. I just repeat my earlier thoughts: giving up your first round pick is the new moneyball (market inefficiency). You hope a first rounder can be a very good MLB player. Give that up and you get a for sure very good MLB player at a couple mill a year less than market value I am sure this will be changed in the next player agreement The most favorable thing would be to sign two or three of these guys in a year. I don't know all the QO guys this year or last. But since you only have one first rounder buying the QO guys in bulk is the bargain To counter that loss of first rounders you need to draft more high risk in later rounds or projectable high schoolers. To be honest the Crew have been more upside drafting the last two years. So I agree with their recent approach in FA and draft
  9. Ok. The dangerous dancing on Wang Wednesday did not work Throwing his fastball in the 80s did not work Are we down to teaching the young man the great past time of 'pickup, school yard basketball'
  10. My big concern is we are now running up a long list of little boo boos that are costing us games. Playoff teams and managers don't throw away a game a week because of 'oopsies' This habit had better stop. It is sad watching a talented team continually shoot themselves in he foot then say 'oh, well'
  11. Wang threw 5 mph below his normal velocity last outing. That is pure and simple dead arm. To fix this you go on the DL 15 days to start. You rest completely. Then you go back to start of spring training mode. You build arm strength for two weeks. Then you do a 30 day rehab. So Wang would be back late July. And on the roster to the season end
  12. I watched on gameday at work. I am too sick to hardly comment. The only thing I can say is BAD BASEBALL. You are up 4-1 with runners on the corners in the, 7th was it?, 1 out. You manage to get picked off first. Then you have a pitcher on like 60 pitches, that you need to replace with an unknown quantity. Do I have it right. A game that was one bunt away from being 'put away' to a game where the manager and player forgot what they are paid millions to do. Sickening. If we end up down the can, this is game that started it. What a joke. What a choke. Not defensible. I guess the Atlanta fans had a good time. When will the Brewers stop gifting and choking. How sad. Will we ever be a real group of ball players.
  13. From gregmag: I don't like the argument that bench guys always suck, so don't worry that ours suck. That's an opportunity to get a comparative advantage That should be a tattoo on Doug's leg. It seems to me every year I wish we had paid a little bit more for a little bit better bench. I was really sad when we were outbid a half million on Hariston Jr (spelling?). A guy that could actually BAT and play decent everywhere. I don't like the idea of the inexperienced guys (like Shafer) being the bench guys. I like the idea of a Hermida who we know 'can' MLB produce. I really, really do think if a GM spent an extra 3 to 5 mill on the bench he will pick up 2 or 3 wins over the year. Money well spent.
  14. Great discussion. My read of your brilliant minds has me agree with: you keep only ONE of Herrara / Bianchi. Obviously Bianchi is the keeper. And I think Herrara, with options, goes back to AAA. You must bring up one of Green/Morris and let Overbay go. I guess Green with his AAA year of nearly 1.000 OPS and his mid June out clause and his flexibility is the one.
  15. I was interested in the start of year chat that Mark and Doug gave the team. They pretty much said 'it is up to you guys; you are the players; how you perform will determine our year' I think they need a reminder of that short chat. There is nothing too much different from week to week (aside from a DL here and there). It is up to the players.
  16. Wang was throwing 88 to 90 mph tonight. Where was the usual 95. Surely must be dead arm or tired arm. That is usually fixed with a 15 day DL (rest). Then a 30 say minor league build up arm strength again. But, you must admit, throwing one inning a week is not a good pattern for building strength and 'go get 'em'.
  17. Gee some of you guys would be fun, over a beer, to say 'what a nice night it is'. The comebacks, I can see it now... 'who defines what is nice'.... 'it is not night in Australia'.... 'my dog does not like 75 degrees'.... 'it is too humid'.... 'it is to dry'.... 'explain to me what is nice about it, I saw a mosquito'.... etc re this comment "why should the Brewers ever overpay for anything? I've yet to see you rationally justify an overpay" You are completely missing my point (on purpose, I think). It is possible that 1 or 2 extra wins over the last two months for the Brewers are more valuable than to another team. Hence, if Hart (just an example) were available it may be that ONLY the Brewers would be interested. I am not talking about giving up any prospect, but just relieving Seattle of some salary. Hence the Brewers, from their viewpoint, are paying what is value to them, but in the overall league scenario it is a $$$ overpay. I prefer to keep talent if a few extra dollars can get a guy for half a year. A couple of fellow posters understood what I meant. The ones who don't understand are choosing not to understand. And I find it interesting that a fellow fan say 'if you cant convince me what you think, then you are irrational'. That is a sad state of affairs! I just posted what I think. And I think I have some good reason behind it. And I will not be beaten down because 'I cant convince anyone'. Geez
  18. I honestly think you gotta just play Rickie now every day. We are in the position now where we are so desperate for some batting, the fall back on D we should not worry about. Rickie is playing like a guy with a point to prove and a chip on his shoulder. Surely we must use that anger. He will either carry us to the playoffs on his bat or he will funk out of his hot spell and go into the Siberian Slump. Scooter can rest and shag fly balls in left field until then. And looking at Rickie's body shape today, I think he refused the 30 meter sprints needed in left field. Scooter is a gnat and will do fine out there. I like it. Scooter goes into a LF platoon.
  19. As we have always said: Doug always over-reacts to problems. Last year he put all sorts of NON first basemen at first. So now Doug values D much, much more than O. Before last year Doug valued O much, much more than D. To me it is funny to watch Doug mature as a GM. If he lives to 150 he may make a well balanced GM. Right now (and likely for the future) we will have a herky, jerky ride.
  20. The other interesting comment re Hart by one clever poster was the incentives that kick in at PAs, like 400, 500, etc. They are MILLIONS the incentives. So, it may by that Seattle want to punt Hart to save those few million. And the Crew may be willing to take on Hart for the part salary and those incentives. When you think about it, only a contender with a need at first base would consider picking up Hart. So maybe we will be in a box seat to pick him backup. This is the exact sort of overpay I was talking about earlier. One can say Hart is not worth 5 mill for half a year. But he may be worth that to the Brewers. Hence an overpay 'bargain'.
  21. Maybe. When seeing our roster (lineup) today I just thought: 'wow, no wonder we scored nil'. We really do a have a problem when our top 8 starters are not starting. Below them is a big problem.
  22. I am 2-0 when I stay up all night and listen to the game. 8-1 when I kicked the dog. 0-2 when I screamed at the cat. (Cat now has liberty around the house) pat wife on bum, only 5-5, but the 5 losses were tempered by 'other positives' Finally, I have predicted that any time the Brewers don't lose... they win. I am right 100% of the time on that one. So it appears the key to winning is to first not lose. I am off to Vegas.
  23. Well said. Today was a gift to us. But I counter that we are missing 3 of our top 4 batters. So, on balance, I hope when our luck runs out our talent will be back. re the Cards, I am hoping so much they become the Yankess of the 90s. I think I have my era right. Those 10 years where the Yankees followed their dominance with NOTHIN'. But we need the Cards to realise they are not special. And they don't have a God given right to dominate and have all things 'fall' their way. I think the team and fans still have this good mojo. It will take a strong while to squeeze it out of them.
