  1. Brewers go for their 2nd high ceiling/high rank high school player in LHP Steven Hajjar.... most likely going to college but Michigan isn’t that great of a hot bed for prospects. Maybe they can pay up & take him out of it.
  2. Cabell is going to be a guy they need to really pony up for. Not sure if a McClanahan 1 million will be enough. Brewers most likely drafted knowing where every player was money wise in top 10 after first two picks. With their strategy of drafting guys like Cabell in the teens to try to steal away, have to believe they budgeted for it from the signing pool
  3. Saw this earlier, exciting tools both have! Gray may take longer to hit his stride. Gatewood was a look top 5 for a long time prior to draft but same swing & miss issues dropped him despite maybe best raw power in draft. Gray the much better athlete & offers much more on the field as a whole but bat could develop like Gatewood’s. Slow but steady improvements each year.
  4. Good write up on Reese Olson RHP 13th Round https://www.gainesvilletimes.com/sports/north-hall-pitcher-reese-olson-commits-georgia-tech/ “The lanky right-hander said his fastball is now touching 93 mph, a nice uptick from the 90-91 mph heat he was throwing for North Hall last spring“
  5. Howell fits the bill, Uber athletic, raw, up the middle talent! Daniel you are taking the arm over production. Had yet to really figure it out at Auburn yet but power arm is there & has two off speed he will mix in with confidence. High upside power arms are always worth the look. Jacob Barnes was very similar coming out & drafted around same time.
  6. People throw his name out as a TOR.... clearly you missed whole context of what I wrote. TORs take the ball in those meaningful games. Suter is decent pitcher but nowhere near TOR. I’d have zero confidence of him taking on a legit TOR in must win game. No one said anything about him pitching in high leverage game 6 or 7 but I feel that is best way to judge a guy on if they are TOR or not. Everyone on here is different but I consider TOR to be Ace, 1A, & #2. Ace is a guy who you believe is a lock to win every game. Think there is 100% they will win.Sabathia, Sheets, Greinke are probably only 3 that I have had that confidence with 1A is a guy who you believe can duo with almost anyone and are fairly confident you will win. Not as dominant as Ace but not far off. I’d say 90% sure they will win. This is where I’d put Yo, Jimmy Nelson #2 is a guy who is consistently good. Doesn’t have the pure dominant stuff of the Ace but always puts you in strong position to win. When these guys are on mound I’d say you are 80% sure they will win. Chase Anderson last year, Marcum. Now that’s just me. I favor dominant stuff to be confident in a pitcher as well. Suter, Davies, or any other soft toss command pitcher I never say are higher than 4 because I’m not confident in those guys to win every time out. They need to be perfect hitting spots with much less chance of surviving a mistake.
  7. I’d say Turang slides into the 7-10 range. Due to how raw he is, Gray Jr. more late teens. Bello, Ashby may get votes & compete for last few spots. I’m not as big as some on ranking recent draft picks high until I see them perform a bit. Like Lutz last year showed he was a top prospect. I expect similar great performance from Turang
  8. Brown may just be a slower starter. His first 4-5 starts last & this year have had some struggles but come start 6 he mostly just deals. He was great in June & July for T-Rats, stellar in Carolina in August, & since May started (7 starts) he has be pretty incredible (only one blemish) Brewers were aggressive & we are seeing why!
  9. Wayne Cavadi Twitter › UofDWayne Watched the newest #Brewers pitcher @FSC_Mocs JT Hintzen in #D2Baseball Championship. Pitched three games in a row and was excellent every time. Senior righty is 6’, 185 and has a nasty arsenal, 10.61 Ks-per-9. #MLBDraft https://www.greenwichsentinel.com/2017/07/29/greenwichs-hintzen-living-the-dream-with-orleans-firebirds/ Moreover, he kind of looks like Aaron Rodgers on school page ( pitching with mustache more so) http://fscmocs.com/sports/bsb/2016-17/bios/hintzen_j.t._bd0u
  10. Last time we took a Fry at catcher in top 10 rounds... he made the majors. Not with us but still counts. Outside of Fry through, they have taken a lot of guys (9) who have plenty of room to fill out and add strength. Much more Caden Lemon type guys vs Lutz/Francis types. Not sure that factors in to projection & value or not or just kind of a fluke.
  11. Sooooo some pretty interest picks 8-10. No clue about any of them but the CF has exciting tools like the other HS kids we got. Never mind dipping into Puerto Rico to take chance on a 6’3 175 kid. Looks solid from his picture. 10th round pick destroyed D2 hitters pretty good all year. Fry hits for extra bases half the time... that’s impressive. I assume all guys will sign hence why Brewers went them in top 10. If Brewers follow last years model. I can see them going Wilcox, Rocker, and/or other signability guys. Quality over quantity I think Johnson said last year.
  12. I don’t know.... I read the way he said he meant to. Plush is asking the question, where do you draw the line? Heimlich May or not be innocent of this, we will never know. Knowing someone who had been in that position I get the pressure to take the deal. Moreover, wasn’t his choice to make really. At 13-15 you know what’s going on with those actions but when it comes to legal issues.... no way. I teach kids that age in social studies & they are clueless. Lawyer & parents made choice that is what he needed to do. Question is just where do you draw the line. If you believe he didn’t do it & has been outstanding human since. Is that enough? I think a man beating a women is awful. I think drunk driving & killing a man is awful. I think being arrested with trunk full of 100k, guns, and tons of cocaine is pretty bad... Rapping a drunk girl in bathroom stall violently while you entourage guard all the doors & refuse friend from helping her... terrible. Those guys have been found guilty (well Big Ben I think I got off) & teams in sports have openly held their arms out for them. A kid who may be innocent for one of the absolute worst types of crimes when he was 15.... I don’t know. Guess it comes down to if you truly believe he never did it. I’m a dad to an 8 year old daughter so personally if he really did it, no way does he deserve a chance. Can’t tell me a 7th-9th grader has no clue that pulling down a 4-6 year olds pants & doing what is claimed is awful & wrong! But I don’t know the kid & if he did actually did it. All gray area. I say no for Brewers though. PR nightmare & while very good, not worth it. Too awful of a crime he is accused of.
  13. I’m really digging Z. Brown.... when are we going to start giving him more love as a prospect. He may not be Peralta, Ortiz, Burnes.... right now but him & Supek I think are maybe next two
  14. request the great Rev Al Sharpton to give a giant big Amen! I really like Suter the person & clubhouse guy, don’t mind him pitching & I when he pitches well but in no way am I putting him out there to start a game 6 or 7 of a meaningful playoff series. I’d cringe & maybe cry if his number was called in a wildcard play in. Like him, does pretty decent job getting outs but in no way am I confident in him when we need a win. TOR go out there & you believe you will win no matter what. Sheets, Sabathia, Greinke, Yo, and a last year Jimmy Nelson to a decent extent give you that. That is a true TOR.
  15. 6', 162 lbs. Better get him to the buffet. School site has him at 195lbs which explains power a bit more
  16. . I don’t know, could be good clubhouse guy..... save his teammates from choking *sad trombone Yikes, until I just read up on him, had no clue about him....makes name joke & good clubhouse guy a little less than desirable. Ultimately there are two options in his situation if he did it or not & that is to plead not guilty, risk jury not believing you, & spend at least 3-5 years in jail/prison. Option two, you take the guilty plead that will wreck your life with offender list & either jail or probation for period of time. Sadly, I know someone that I grew up with, played sports, and was friends with in same situation. Never in million years did anyone think he could or would ever do something like that. Had an academic ride to Iowa St & promising life ahead of him. He called a meeting with all of us, told us the situation, that he didn’t do it but just couldn’t risk court not believing him & going to prison for something he didn’t do. Will never know if he did it or not, you want to think best of someone but never know. Understand the risk as fighting & losing though. Easier to just take 10 years on list & year in jail/ probation & eventually get life back.... Not saying I want him. Talent & all, way to much backlash for an awful act. Just pointing out their is a different reasons to a guilty plead that would cause someone who is innocent to consider taking. Regardless to if he did or not, that label will never leave him & follow him & his team around.
  17. . I don’t know, could be good clubhouse guy..... save his teammates from choking
  18. Another lottery ticket high ceiling guy. After two TJs I think it’d be best to put him in pen like T. Williams. Let arm play & reduce the wear & tear on are. Can’t complain about a 1st round talent in 6th round with little leverage. Big question to me is if they will approach 11-20 same as last year where they draft high ceiling tough signs with hopes of signing away 2 or 3 of them. I really liked that last year. Fill rest of depth needs 21-40. With emerging international development, we don’t need to fill out as much at the rookie levels.
  19. Jarvis is very interesting pick. Appears to have loads up upside & has continued to trend up. At 6’3 165 & skinny, hard to believe it’s topped out yet with the strength Brewers will put on him over the next few years. Same could go far Ashby. DS believes in lottery picks strongly. Take the high ceiling & hope it works out. Buy enough lottery tickets eventually one will hit. That is verse taking high floor, excel in lower levels.... do okay in upper levels & at best are AAA or AAAA players.
  20. I vote Trey Dillard just because Tim Dillard is getting up there in age.
  21. I literally posted 19 years of drafts.... Brewers have not avoided pitchers, in fact they have taken more first round pitchers than bats during that span. If you are talking since front office had changed to Montgomery..... 2015 1. Trent Clark Wasn’t suppose to be there, most advanced & professional hitter in HS.... best value CBA Nate Kirby 2. Cody Ponce 3. Nash Walters 4. Demi O 5 Blake Allamand 2016 1. Ray (only place pitcher I’d prefer instead but Pint was gone, Puk & Groome both have had major arm injuries since) 2. Erceg- proved quick why brewers loved him CBA Feliciano - 3. Webb 4. Burns 5. Z. Brown Under Johnson 1. Hiura (do you blame him?) CBA T. Lutz (again can you blame them? Got guy you were targeting at 9 in 2nd round... mashed last year) 2. C. Lemon high ceiling pitcher 3. KJ Harrison 4 Brenden Murphy LHP So I don’t see your argument except you think Brewers should avoid who they feel is the best value & player to just take pitchers... to take pitchers. Brewers aren’t scared to take arms. Just hasn’t fallen that way. Some people will complain just to complain & see worse in everything. Done debating this though. You stick to board regardless, do best to develop that talent into quality prospects, quality prospects lead to either pro players or trade bait to get pro players. Those pro players are eventually traded for prospects. Again we have developed a total of 3 actual SPs in 20 years.... that’s not good and that is with us pretty close to evenly drafting position players & pitchers in first 2 rounds during that time
  22. Just watched JJ Cooper’s Facebook live & he raved about Brewers Day 1. “I love love love this Brewers draft” is how he starts it out. DS is always stressing value value value & that is really what Cooper hits on. The value you get with Turang at 21, Gray Jr. at 60, and then Bello at 78. Reminded him of the high upside approach as well they did with Medeiros Harrison, Gatewood (Harrison has blossomed, Mederous still super young in AA has flashed, and Gatewood continues to grow & improve despite awful April.... still too streaky) Again really like what they have done. Sure we will see some college arms come off here. 3-5 have brought pretty useful arms for us in recent past as prospects and/trade guys. 3rd Thornburg, Astin (trade), Sneed (trade), Quintana (trade) Webb, 4th Wagner (trade) T. Williams, Burns, B. Murphy 5th Z. Brown. Guess Nick Ramirez fits now as well.
  23. I just find it crazy that us as fans who merely read scouting reports & look at some clips sit here & act like they know more about who should be where on their boards. Top 5 or 10 pick I get it. Ray, Puk, or Groome a little easier to debate where elite top 10 talent should be. But we are talking about late first, 2nd, & 3rd round picks! Outside of Colby & very few others on this board can educationally argue a teams board or not picking someone instead. Just because BA listed this pitcher #40 & says he throws 95 with a possible plus change, developing breaking ball that could be above average with good command of strike zone doesn’t mean that player is who Brewers should pick. Position doesn’t matter. You add the best possible talent in your eyes to the system with hopes you hit.
