  1. Hader being able to pitch 2-3 innings of great baseball after our rotation fails to do their job is great! Hopefully Houser can do same as well! We need plenty of guys in order to piggy back 5 starters every 5 days
  2. Villar is hitting .333 so far, Defense could be better from all 3 options. Sogard with huge error tonight. As long as Villar is hitting and not completely lost like last season at plate, he isn’t the problem. Our rotation not able to barely pitch 5 innings is the huge issue. Trading for 2B does nothing for this team if our rotation stays complete garbage.
  3. So mid-August then? Sounds like Early to mid June at worst with no set backs.
  4. Going to be hard to compete this year with what we have. Going to need Nelson back & grooving like last, Burnes to force way up & be a stud and/go get a decent starter. Painful to see us dig 4+ holes by the 3rd or 4th inning. Bullpen at least has been stellar.
  5. Chad McClanahan injuried? Was starting day for Wisconsin in Spring until last week... then wasn’t even on any of the benches. Personally hope it’s injury relate (if not serious) over him just failing to make team. His having to repeat Helena isn’t a great sign for the 11th round bonus baby.
  6. Thankfully with the QB draft market & amount of teams wanting one, that could push more talent down to Packers. I assume 4 will go in top 10 & I would not be if some reaches a bit to get L. Jackson before 13 out of QB desperation. If 5 QBs go, there will be some real nice talent to debate. Chubbs, Nelson, Barkley, Ward are sure to go before. Then you got Smith, Ridley, Vita, Fitzpatrick, James, Edmunds, Davenport, Van Esch At least 2-3 of those guys fall to us. I really like the top half of the 1st round due to QB talent & need. Really strengthens our pick. Payne & J. Jackson are 2 who could easily find themselves in mix for top 14 pick as well. Guice is another guy who could sneak in. You hope for James or Fitzpatrick. Smith, Edmunds, and Van Esch are flat out football players who instantly make a defense strong inside. Davenport is most boom or bust of the guys. High risk, high reward guy. No need for Payne or Vita V. Josh Jackson is a safe pick who will at worst be solid 2 but kid can hawk the ball & make plays. Tested out better than I thought he would. Ridley is a luxury pick. Don’t think he should be taken over any of those defensive players. If Chubbs, Ward, Fitzpatrick, James, Smith, Edmunds, Van Esch, Davenport are all gone..... I could live with a Ridley over Jackson
  7. Playing almost all season at 23 Z. Brown Q. Costa-Torres L. Erceg C. Ray Playing almost all season at 22 T. Jankins W. Rijo L. Ortiz J. Gatewood T. Stokes K. Mederois Playing all season at 21 T. Grisham In order oldest to youngest Surprised with aggressiveness of T. Jankins and Z. Brown.... excited to see what they can do! Guessing Franklin is 4th OF along with catching Overall, should be exciting team!
  8. Cain, Yelich, Braun, Shaw, Santana......I am a big fan of our offense! Mix in Thames, Pina, and Arcia ....we got the fire power. I want to believe in Villar! I really do but so far this series his ABs look much like 2017 and we don't need those types of K's in our lineup. Outside of pitcher, he is the next closest rally killer. This team will go as far as Anderson, Chacin, Suter, Davies, Woodruff allow us to. I'm a fan of our offense, bullpen but it will come down to those 5
  9. Lol Free Agency hasn’t even really started and already hearing “same old Packers” type line..... Packers brought in Wilkerson already, tried to get Sherman in (who think wanted to stay west coast where he has always lived, played, and revenge factor), then have made calls to reps of Graham, Robinson, Watkins, and Trumaine Johnson.... They don’t have much cap room to work with. Be interesting to see what they can do. Just don’t understand how anyone can be frustrated or thinking same old Packers before FA starts or because they haven’t been wheeling & dealing like Browns or Rams in the early going of off-season
  10. I never suggested trade Santana for nothing. I’m 100% believer in DS & he isn’t going to just make a trade to do so. I’m sure he has good groundwork laid already for a Santana deal but seeing how Spring goes. Make sure we are healthy. Find out what Braun offers at 1B. Etc. What I did say is it makes more sense to trade Santana over Broxton if Braun pencils in at only OF. You hope 120-140 games with him. That leaves 20-40 starts for Santana in RF. Cain & Yelich if stay healthy don’t need many days off. At absolute most you figure only about 40 more starts available there. So you are taking a young 25 year old kid coming off 30HRs .280 ave & .875 OPS & leaving him 60-80 starts & pinch hits... that doesn’t help his value or development. Broxton is the better fit for this team in that scenario. He’s a 4th OF. Santana is an everyday bat. I find it funny that some think just because DS hasn’t pulled the trigger on trading Santana or Broxton yet, they have no value. The whole “if they had value, they’d be gone by now” thought process is simply an armchair GM stance. DS & his team have a plan for the log jam. They most likely have things lined up depending on different outcomes of spring. If I was him, I’d like to see if Braun works at 1B as well first before making any choices. I’d want to make sure we are healthy. Santana is great asset for us. Make sure there is no room for him before you trade him away
  11. Think teams are waiting to see Spring performances on Keon and Phillips. Auditions basically. Broxton is very talented athlete and offers excellent defense, speed on the bases, power, and ability to walk. Issue is streaks and K's. Outside of Ks per usual, he has had a nice spring. I am sure at end of spring either Santana or more likely Broxton will be traded. Think Stearns are waiting to see how realistic Braun platooning at 1B is. If Braun is capable, think it'd be dumb to trade Santana right now. He helps make our offense one of the most dangerous in NL. If Braun can't play 1B much at all, then you need to trade Santana. Just wont be enough ABs for Braun, Yelich, Cain. Having versatile Broxton as 4th OF makes much more sense. Phillips has been awful offensively and cemented a AAA spot. Didn't do much to show any team he is MLB ready easy this spring so they'd need to buy September performance and tools. Doubt he is traded. As for Cobb, I say at this point.... a Lynn deal or nothing. We have some good prospects who will be knocking on door pretty quickly plus Woodruff. Nelson back by mid June hopefully. I'm not nearly as frantic as most fans are over our rotation.
  12. Sir Nottingham hitting the ball with authority & power thus far. Something he didn’t do much of last year. He is my bounce back guy this year & love to see him finally break back out. Brewers could use him later on this season or next with Pina
  13. I've seen a couple others say he's looked good. I haven't seen his every AB but of the 4 or 5 I have seen he hasn't even fouled a pitch off yet. Just looks super overmatched with no approach other than "swing at every pitch and hope I hit it." Hey, apparently some just have the ability with bat speed & hand eye coordination to get away with it! He is just finding holes everywhere so far! Def needs at least a year to adjust to competition level. Bat could be special though few years though!
  14. Never liked Miley but Gallardo I don’t think is completely washed up yet. May not be frontline guy anymore but think the pitching guru Johnson can help him get back on track. As #5 think he could have value there. We will see but hard to believe he has just lost ability to pitch all together.
  15. Braun is always late into game action. The vet thing and age. They let him work in slowly. He will start playing OF I think they said today or tomorrow. He works 1B everyday but Brewers and Braun both want to be comfortable with the basics of first base before seeing game action. Braun has literally never played there in his entire life so he is trying to figure it out. Think the goal is for him to see game action there by end of the week. There is no rush to throw him into the fire in the first four games. Still have I think 35 or so more days of spring training. Think a lot of people just think it is easy to start a new position you never have played before and dive right in. He will get his reps in. CC isn't a guy who doesn't have a plan in place.
  16. I think Williams & Peralta could easily be as electric & dominant as Hader. Power arms with nasty off speed that can really excel out of pen. Both are late inning types if they stay in pen.
  17. Think CC & Stearns love Perez & he is pretty safe. He offers enough offense to be productive contributor but fact he can fill in anywhere defensively and play well there is what keeps him a lock. Unless Orf shines far more and steals that role.... he isn’t going anywhere
  18. So just found this out & not very important but did anyone know that Monte’s older brother plays for the Phoenix Suns? Shaquille Harrison? Pretty athletic family... not shocking lol
  19. I have always said Lara has been pushed too aggressively for age. They never put him in spot to succeed. 19/20in Wisconsin is no easy task. You coach kids like him in high school who in middle school were such studs because they were naturally more gifted, matured body, stronger, and etc. They get arrogant, stop trying, and become average. I’ve seen many by time they are in junior or senior seasons make one of two choices.... wash up or put in work to become Stars again. It really is a mental thing. They never had to work to be better than everyone. They had been told whole life they are so great. When they fail & others catch up & surpass them.... they shut off. I think Lara is in same boat. Been told how great you are your whole life, you got paid big, and never had to adjust or grow to earn any of that praise. Then he has failed & natural talent hasn’t been enough. You shutdown. Trust me! Large majority of teenagers shutdown big time of this. One of my kids was unbelievable & he actually fell into depression, disconnected from all friends and team, and went from competing for starting job as freshman to marginal player as senior. Many of you are so quick to say he’s 20 & has sucked.... he’s done. Cut ties. But I’ve seen too many kids finally have it click for them. Decide they want this & will work for it. I don’t know him personally & cant promise he will make that choice but the talent is there. Ride it out and see. This is a big year for him where he will finally be with people close to his age. Still plenty of time. As a teacher & coach, you can see my bias of not quitting on young kids but when you deal with them everyday & the mental & maturity aspects that plague them.... you know they can figure it out & right ship.
  20. I think he will be fine there. All he has to do is be around average with the way his bat plays. He seems like just a baseball type guy, who works hard, and is fairly good athlete. They will give him every opportunity to prove he can play there at MLB level. Him proving he can’t would be awful. Just another OF to the log jam who could only play LF
  21. I fell Brewers are will to ride out 2B in house this season mostly due to believing Hiura will be up in September & probably opening day 2019 starter. Why go sign Walker for more than a year when we have a guy to replace him soon. Hope Villar bounces back & trade him. It’s impossible not to love watching professional hitters work. It’s an art. You watch like an Ichro is his prime and hopefully what we will continue to see if Hiura & it’s amazing. Makes me feel really crappy about my one year college stint finishing at exactly the Mendoza Line lol
  22. 5 players for 4 spots is a non issue. All 5 can get starter ABs. Thames is platoon bat.... he can’t hit lefties. Braun hopefully fills in there Vs lefties. Then you play match ups with day offs. Nice thing is you always have a quality big bat on bench. Braun at best will only start 140-150 games I’m guessing? That is the highest end even if healthy. Keep him as fresh as possible to last all season. 5th OF is one who gets short end of stick.... they aren’t getting many ABs outside of pinch hitting. As for if we don’t go & get another pitcher.... we will be just fine. Think it is no worse than last year & our offense is far improved. See how it’s shaking out until Late June or July & go for it if that is what is needed. Maybe Woodruff is pitching great.... Yo or 5th SP has refound form and pitch great. Nelson back, Chacin handling Lefties okay, Anderson repeating, and Davies is June on form from last year.... Burns pounding on door with Ortiz, and Peralta.... a lot needs to go right for that but could happen. If it’s not.... make a move
  23. Hader is a major piece moving forward for this club. Not sure the value equals out. A lefty who has potential and has shown that potential to be a lights out back of pullpen guy who can also go extra innings if needed. It is great to add a guy to pitch every fifth day but not sure I want to remove one of our top 2 bullpen arms to get one. I'm at point where I say we wait until midseason to bring in a TOR. Sign Cobb or Arrieta possibly or trade Broxton for a solid 4-5 to hold down fort until Nelson is back. Hope Woodruff shines a bit. I think with our offense, we will be competitive even with a eh rotation. If we are in race come July, push the chips in. Burns, Peralta, Ortiz all could be knocking on door come July as well. May be able to give up less quantity if some of these guys have big first halves
  24. I don’t see any reason why Cleveland would be so open to trade Mejia even if it gives them a righty in OF. Think Broxton to mix in there with what they have is a better fit & we get one of there many arms.
  25. Keep Santana, sign Cobb or Arrieta. Think that right there is a strong team to compete. Get creative with PT to get best bats in lineup per the match ups everyday. Braun & Thames platoon could produce at insane level. Braun destroys lefties....Thames destroys righties. Could be looking at .950+ OPS at 1B. Braun/ Yelich/ Cain/ Santana also could easily average out to be .850+ OPS. Shaw is solid & will produce I believe. Just have to hope 2B/SS/C can do enough. Anderson, Cobb, Chacin, Davies, Woodruff should be able to what I think will be a very strong bullpen
