  1. I have a feeling both Demi & Lara will be in Wisconsin. They didn't have great seasons but Brewers I think will be aggressive & they will show enough in Spring. Now that Brewers don't need to be scared to send talented hitters to A+ helps a lot. Don't think even with the injuries, Harrison gets taken away from his wave and group. He had some really good moments prior and after injury. I'd probably slot some players differently but overall great job!
  2. Power type lefty in bullpen.... Worth a look considering the other lefties are soft tossers/ craft pitchers. Tommy & Brent cranking 87-89 aren't going overpower anyone.
  3. I have a pretty good feeling that in 3 years, not to many people will be upset over Thon pick. Let him like Giannis add strength. He has a beautiful stroke, kid is a very smooth shooter for a 7' guy and his handles are already impressive, only will get better. Most part I've been impressed with this team. Not have Middleton in the 4th is what is killing them. He is their clutch scorer down stretch & brings great defense with it. Delli, Mirza, Parker, Giannis Snell are consistent down stretch shooters. Beasley & Terry either. They are just missing that guy who will knock down big shots when needed.... That is what Middleton does. He is their Ray Allen, Michael Reed guy
  4. Omar Garcia is a little surprising. Alan Sharkey's defense and walks will be missed, always like his advance metrics but bat just didn't hit enough. Zach Taylor was a pretty young kid, think only 20 or 21 but guess things weren't working out. Outside of them, non are really too surprising.
  5. Love where your head is at! In late inning big at bats, the jumbotron should get this going!Get the whole crowd chanting!
  6. I remember all last season when the only thing we heard about was how we would loss 100..... CC will not tank & will get more out of this team than expected. Only thing that helps get to your goal is Cards loading back up, Cubs loaded, and if Pirates stay strong.
  7. Storen has always been solid in a closer role, for some reason, mentally he shuts down it appears when he is moved out of that spot to set-up man. I think Brewers would be one of the most attractive jobs out their for any of these guys. All guys who most teams will not give them an opportunity to close, but most are proven, and bounce back guys who can net something nice in this market. Storen comes in and pitches liek Storen, well by mid-season or next off-season who have a really nice trade piece. For for, it is an opportunity to close again and prove his worth. For Brewers, you are stablizing your bullpen and adding trade value if he hits. I'd also sign Feliz. We have money and opportunity...
  8. Nottingham was one of the youngest players in AA. He didn't star way we hoped but I doubt they are worried. They care about depth and competition throughout the system. I get he was a headliner in a trade. He was suppose to come here, walk on water, dominate his way though the system to being our star catcher of future but he didn't & stumbled at young age so people are writing him off & thinking Brewers have given up in him. This trade has zero to do with him, all to do with build depth & competition with guys who have potential. Good trade.
  9. Good ISO guy who doesn't K a ton not walk a ton. 2015 in AAA was a very nice offense season for him. A catcher who hits .240 and can hit 15-20 HR a year has good value in this league as long as the defense is there. In very limited time, his WAR was already at Scooter level Love competition! We got three solid options to compete. Let best man win & hopefully hit lighting in a bottle with one. We loss nothing & may have gained something with potential. Remember Broxton & Villar were guys we got in lose nothing hurtful type low hype deals. Trust in our scouting & maybe they found another hidden gem who just needed a chance
  10. Think he should be fine in Colorado with height & fastball if he is a good downhill thrower. If his breaking ball is a curve the well.... Tough with a change. Velocity pitches such as fastballs & sliders usually can cut the air/altitude fine. Change ups & curves tend to stay up & hang. At least from my understanding. Like the sign. Lefty arms with big bodies who are great vs lefties are always a good addition
  11. Come on Phil! Once you make in on the 40 man you can smoke until your lungs give out! Be smart kiddo, weed isn't worth your career
  12. Ahhhhhhh hard to say right now because they offer such different things. Jabari and Big Dog cancel each other out IMO. Similar type scorers...defensively and rebounding also similar. Parker just more explosive. Giannis is a talent the NBA hasn't really seen to much of in its history....at same time, there is not too many guys who could shoot a basketball and score as well as Ray did. Both really special players to watch. Until Giannis and Parker get us on the door step of the finals just to have the refs screw them because a player like Iverson and team like the then 76ers are better for ratings..... I'll still have to go with Ray & Glenn
  13. Given the age and contract, Eaton is far more valuable than either Braun or McCutchen in a trade. We are still talking about Adam Eaton for the best pitching prospect in baseball and two other good prospects. Age, contract, and etc are very nice but that is a really nice big haul for White Sox....Eaton is an under-radar/ underrated player but still. Wasn't expecting Giolito plus for him.
  14. Well since I have often in the past said Brett Phillips will likely be a very similar player as Adam Eaton and he is my main comparison for Maverick..... This deal makes me pretty happy lol Overall, wow.... McCutchen I get but Eaton for top pitching prospect in baseball plus two other pretty quality guys.... I was a little shocked today
  15. I'm a big fan of this move. One we really don't loss anything. 4-6 million a year is not a hurtful number over the next 3 years considering Carter would have cost us 16-20 million over the next two. Thames crushed his way through the minors in 2 1/2 years and had a really solid first stint at 24. After that he just could not do enough to lock down a consistent roster spot and at bats. He was actually in a very similar spot Nelson Cruz was in at the same age. Also a very similar type player. Age 27 Cruz put it all together and never looked back with the Rangers and Thames went to Korea at age 27 and took off. He is not going to hit .400 with 1.100+ OPS. He most likely will not hit 40-50 HRs while stealing 30-40 bases. But I do think he has a good chance to put up solid numbers. I know most of the damage was done in Las Vegas but in 870 plate appearances he slashed .312/.389/.506 with a .894 OPS. His K/BB was 178/89 and most impressive is he drilled 60 doubles 9 triples 23 home runs while driving in 123. Regardless of the park he was consistently good during three on and off AAA seasons. I say if he can hit .260/.335/.465 --.800 OPS with 30-40 doubles 15-20 HRs and manage to drive in 70+ runs with solid defense. This was a great get. Maybe he hits .300/.370/.500 with .870 OPS 35 HRs...... maybe he hits .230/.280/.420 with 15 HRs Well worth trying to see what kind of MLB hitter he is.
  16. [sarcasm]Gee, you mean a slightly above average middle reliever would not make $7.5M/yr. Yeah..that would be a shame.[/sarcasm] It's better to put the money on owner's pockets? [sarcasm]Yeah, I know the NBA players are really struggling with a cap.... those owners are completely gutting the pockets of the players[/sarcasm] It is possible to have a cap where both players and owners make money while kind of creating competitive balance. There are a lot smarter people than me to figure what the right numbers are to do that but not allowing some teams to blow 300+ million a year to get anyone they want giving the lower no chance to compete for top talent.... or retain their own talent. Even with 3 to 3.5 million attendance a year, Brewers would need to skyrocket prices for use to really be able to get in arm races with the big markets.
  17. Hard to say a college hitter in homer run friendly league who only hit I believe 13 HRs in college with aluminum bat has 70-80 legit power. I hope he continues and has potential that he has shown this year but I have seen this plenty of times before out of college hitters in Helena and most have come to let us down. Hit at Wisconsin or go straight to A+ and mash again next year.... he will have my attention! The fact that Garcia is so young and has showed as much as he has offensively and that he has ability to play all over the field makes him very exciting to follow. I really hope one of the young high school kids can burst out. Lillis.... time to break out of Pikes shadow he casted over you all high school and break out!
  18. I remember reading an article way back in the day about Adam Walker.... Was able to find it! http://archive.jsonline.com/sports/preps/29409009.html Aug. 03, 2008 Top high school basketball recruits often spend the summer traveling across the country from one high-profile event to another. They have nothing on baseball player Adam Walker Jr., a senior catcher for Milwaukee Lutheran. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Walker began July playing in a prestigious tournament in Puerto Rico and ended the month at a tournament in Georgia. In addition, he was one of 34 players to try out for the Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome. He also was the only player from Wisconsin selected by the MLB Scouting Bureau to participate in its Breakthrough Series Showcase in Compton, Calif. Oh, and he even found time to throw the football around. Walker is projected as the starting quarterback for the Milwaukee Lutheran football team. "It's been crazy traveling all over to play baseball," said Walker, who turns 17 in October. "I'm having a lot of fun." Walker missed the second half of his sophomore baseball season with a hip-flexor injury, so he did not burst onto the scene until this past spring. As a junior, Walker hit .569 with eight homers and 29 RBI. Coach Bob Heinkel estimated that seven of those home runs traveled in excess of 400 feet. "He's got as much talent as anyone I've coached, and I've been here since Moses," Heinkel said. At the showcase tournament in Puerto Rico, Walker said he was 11 for 15 at the plate. He also was challenged constantly behind the plate. "It's a different game over there because a lot of the teams were fast and like to run," Walker said. At the MLB Showcase, Walker went 4 for 5 against elite pitching. "The harder it comes, the farther it goes," Walker said with a smile. "When you get a hit against a (top) pitcher, you feel good about yourself." Added Heinkel: "The tougher the competition, the more he responds." Walker enjoyed the guest speakers at the MLB Showcase, especially Rod Carew and Frank Thomas. Harvey Kuenn Jr., an area scout for the Brewers, is not surprised by the way Walker is acquitting himself. "He's a guy with strength, power and he runs fairly well," Kuenn said. "I'm sure he will be seen by clubs and a lot of colleges." Walker's bat speed projects well to the next level. "The harder I threw the ball to him, (from about 40 feet), the more his reflexes and natural abilities would come through," Heinkel said. "He would rip the ball past my head in the batting cage." Next for Walker is a tryout with the Brewers. He also will play in the Milwaukee Brewers Classic All-Star Game on Aug. 14 at Miller Park. Walker will begin making official visits to colleges in the fall. UW-Milwaukee, Indiana and Minnesota are among the schools recruiting Walker. "I think getting (drafted) is a possibility, but we'll see what happens after next season," he said. "I plan on going to college at this point."
  19. Zach Clark is a guy I'm going to be watching close this next season. Gideon & Wilson had great seasons but I expect power school college bats to excel at Helena. Until they prove it at a higher level.... They aren't on my radar too much. Really to me it's Sean Halton & Steffon Wilson prospects to me right now. Gideon at #4 is mind blowing.... In his draft class alone I don't think he is even top 5 as a prospect.... Let alone while system. Ray, Erceg, Burns have already proved themselves more at higher levels. Way more upside. Gabe Garcia could be steal. 6'3 185, 18 year old catcher who really produced. Believe he offers pretty solid defense as well. Going to be watching him close. We have 5 pretty exciting sub 19 year old catchers in DSL-Rookie ball to follow, hopefully 2-3 really click (Garcia, Henry, Felicano, Sibrian, Perez. 20 year old Atencio missed age 18 season & struggled in Helena at 19 but has potential as well.)
  20. Always take a chance on a guy with at least one outstanding tool.... Hope the rest clicks. Doesn't hurt at all. He is not Chris Carter because is a legit 3 option player. He is going to HR, Walk, or K. His OBP is almost always .100 above batting average. Walker doesn't walk enough as of now to be in that category. I'm happy with who we added & not too upset with the risks we made. Taylor & Coulter are nowhere near making an MLB club. Enrique Cruz pick ups at best for a team. Really hard to hide on the 25 man. Don't think upside right now is close enough to warrant the stash. Miguel Diaz is a guy who some team will snipe I think. Hard to see him sticking as well but upside is really high to warrant trying to stash away.
  21. Obviously you haven't spent much time coaching if you think you should just role out red carpet for every young player who comes up despite work ethic or anything else. There was mostly likely a clear reason why Santana was on bench for Kirk. Kirk is an extremely hard working, smart, competitive player who leads like a vet. His results may not have been outstanding but if you are trying to build a winning culture built around hustling, work ethic, competitive fire, and attitude....you play those guys until the younger guys buy in and start to grow into that mold. As a high school coach, at the start of the season, you usually fill your starting line up with 1st, returning starters 2nd seniors who put in the time & bought in, 3rd hardest working juniors who bought in. You do this knowing that they may not be most talented and many likely will lose starting jobs as the younger & more talented athletes begin to step up, buy in, and force way into line up.... The moment you just give away starting spots to most talented who haven't earned it though work ethic, attitude, and performance; is the moment you just lost your team, program, and future success. All it does is tell everyone that you could care less about work ethic, attitude, commitment, or anything else. All you care about is natural talent. Santana will grow more by earning his way to being an everyday player & competing for it than just being told do whatever, act however, you are the man regardless..... That's not developing. Not saying that Santana is a bad attitude guy or doesn't work hard, just that there is a clear reason CC plays him under others. Also winning & developing go hand & hand. It's about culture. You are developing a winning culture & like the Cardinals, players develop better when they are in a culture like that. So I strongly disagree that CC isn't right for this team. He just understands how to build a team & culture correctly. He gets more out of players & wins more than expected because of that.
  22. This is encouraging. Another 4 Ks for Phillips today.... What is going on. He needs to drop his pull power approach and just go back to driving ball all over field, going with ball, hitting for average, and getting on base. I can deal with less power if he's hitting .290 & getting on base .400 again.
  23. 1. Lewis Brinson 2. Josh Hader 3. Isan Diaz 4. Luis Ortiz 5. Phil Bickford 6. Corey Ray 7. Brett Phillips 8. Marcos Diplan 9. Trent Clark 10. Lucas Erceg 11. Gilbert Lara 12. Brandon Woodruff 13. Jacob Nottingham 14. Cody Ponce 15. Jorge Lopez 16. Monte Harrison 17. Freddy Peralta 18. Jacob Gatewood 19. Kodi Mederois 20. Demi Orimoloye 21. Corbin Burns 22. Nathan Kirby 23. Ryan Cordell 24. Mario Feliciano 25. Devin Williams
  24. I'm pretty happy with most of my predictions. Nelson was a huge let down.... Santana's injuries hurt his breakout campaign, and Lucroy left at deadline. On plus, wins were close, Braun was MVP, Carter hit 41 HRS, Arcia called up into September, Scooter broke out from being platoon guy & had very solid year, Jungmann was terrible as predicted, and Peralta after coming back up finally started to rebound
  25. Both Ray & Zack are rising front office stars who are going to get plenty of GM calls in the coming years. Brewers are trying to keep them around and move them up their ladder.
